View Full Version : Problem accessing the boards?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to pass on a tip for anyone who knows anyone who can't get to the PC at the moment.

I was not able to get to the PC from my computer at home yet could do it fine at college so I figured there must be an IP related problem. Set up a proxy at home and I can now view the PC without a problem.

I know a lot of others are having the same problem so if you do know someone who is, let them know that setting up a proxy is a way to view. If they don't know how to do this then they can contact me. I didn't know how until today!

Please let us know if this is working for those of you who have been having problems. It could give Kranar a clue as to what might be causing the problems. :)

For those who are unable to access forum.gsplayers.com from home, are you able to access forumx.gsplayers.com?

It's hard to determine if this is a server issue or a software issue, but if both forum and forumx are unavailable from home, then I can get a better idea of what's going on.

I haven't had any problems, at all, this morning. I'm able to access both boards without a hitch. Have things cleared up for others, or are some of you still experiencing difficulties?

Buckwheet
01-07-2006, 02:15 PM
I was getting connection refused errors on both domains.

Which makes sense because forum or forumx are just subdomains.

HarmNone
01-07-2006, 02:18 PM
Was that today, Bucky? I'm just asking because I was having trouble yesterday, and for a few days before that, but none today. :)

Miss X
01-07-2006, 02:42 PM
Just tested. I can't get to either under my own IP from home but I can get to them both if I use a proxy.

Thanks, Miss X! That may be helpful to Kranar. :)

Yes that was today.

I tried to connect from a multitude of servers(I have 9 online througout the world). Also from my home connection on Comcast cable and from my computer at work which is on Qwest's backbone.

When I am at work, I can not access either set of forums. When I come home I can access them just fine. I USED to be able to access them at work (albeit very spotty).

I haven't tried to run a proxy cause I have no clue how

If it helps any Kranar I cannot access either from my work as well, and when I try to ping it from work it only bounces back one response. I had to remote into the Home PC to view the forums. And I can’t do proxy at work due to our setup.

Basically cogent=bad bad bandwidth for web hosting on.

Its fine for file servers where you don't mind slow access times, congestion, and a few dropped packets.

But to top that off...are you serious about this??

Reverse IP: Web server hosts 641 websites

This is in the GNAX datacenter in Atlanta?

Which means this server is through some sort of reseller.

No wonder you are getting problems. No way can a dedicated server run 641 other websites and this one.

New reply since I don't want to cause problems.

Feel free to delete this if its out of line.

So here is the deal.

I see the dnsproject is the main domain this particular server is attached to. However you can't pull up anything at dnsproject.com.

It is not able to find an IP address for that domain.

That seems like a pretty big problem for me since this server is listed as a subdomain.

Second, the registrar listed is a web hosting company. Their web page doesn't load either. Unable to connect to the web server.

Thirdly, everything I can find online about the web hosting company listed is negative, lots of downtime, outages, and un happy customers.

Now, I do apologize if this is someone's business I am not trying to rag on it or anything.

Keeping the PC going is my main focus here.

But something, in my experience in this industry, isn't adding up.

Speaking of banning Tayre, he got a GM ban from the Landing last night. I'm not allowed in the Landing for an indefinite amount of time.

But that's for another thread.

I have no idea what would cause it. It takes a while for Internet Explorer to give up and say that PC can't be displayed, as if the connection is attempting to be established but the PC server is struggling to make the connection. I totally can't ping, tracert, or whois the server with my connection. :(

According to the host, the problem isn't on our end or on their end directly.

For those who are unable to connect, one of the network hops from the PC host to their computer is down. Hopefully this is something that can and will resolve, but it should be only a temporary problem.

Not sure if this is the right thread or not.
I've been having a lot of trouble the past several weeks using the forum. When I click on my link I'll get an hourglass forever, then a 'server is busy' notice. Same thing when I try typing in the address.

Sometimes I can get to the first page but when I pick a category it hangs up, then tells me unavailable.

Sometimes it works great, but not very often.

I'm a computer illiterate, I can turn the thing on and find most of my pictures, and that's about it.
