View Full Version : You know what pisses me off?

What really cheeses me?

My rogue obviously trains in pickpocketing, it's so cheap, but never has really used it his whole career. Maybe once in awhile out of amusement, but never with any regularity.

So - something happens IG last night that makes him think: maybe some people DO deserve to be stolen from until they beg for mercy.

So he's picking one said idiot's pocket this morning, and she actually sees him, a feat in and of itself. She goes invisible, and starts ranting and raving about how I'm possessed, clearly implying *MY* character has been bought and someone's being a snert with him. She knows me, yes, from years of being a relatively nice locksmith.

My question: are we not allowed to change our behavior towards darker tendancies, without accusations of being possessed? Just because I've never picked a pocket before (or you've never seen me pick a pocket before) doesn't mean now that I have, I'm bought and paid for.

If you've had her as one of your clients for years and she, for some reason, is now under the impression that you have bought your current character, then maybe there could be a way to RP some kind of hippy-crap-esque-conflict-resolution other than perpetuating what happened this morning.

OR you could be all quake imbed, boom headshot!!!1one.

I would have to assume that the player behind the girl you stole from is in fact an idiot. Chalk it up to learnage and move on, thankful that you found out now rather than later when she's stalking you down or something. :aww:

She's been a client of mine pretty regularily, but that doesn't make us best of friends. Suddenly, she catches me with my hand in her pocket and she's like: "The real you was so nice".

Bitch. I'm really cheesed about this.

If I was a floaty happy cleric who smooched everyone, and then one day met Luukos in the Rift, and then proceeded to be enslaved by Luukos, would that imply I was bought? Are our behaviors not allowed to change? Even to 180 degrees? I have IG, IC justification for this!

Hell, I'm a dark elf, woman, you shoulda known!

Yeah, i'd have to say she's definately a moron. I've turned 180 degrees before, and not had any implications that I'd been bought.

I've even spun in circles, jumped around a few times, and then stomped on an ant or two.

It's her bad roleplaying ability that would cause the situation in the first place.

If it were me in her place, and I had a notion that your character had been bought, that would make no difference to my character, having know knowledge of such things.

Just because she said it in a way that might somehow be deemed appropriate for public speaking in the game doesn't mean she's not a piss-poor roleplayer.

At any rate, maybe you should come up with some sort of action or phrase that you do often so people really know it's you. You know, to weed out the idiots who might assume otherwise and go all OOC on you.

Here are a few suggestions:

Yessum sings:

Everybody was Voln fu fighting!
Those kicks were fast as lightning!
and it was a little bit frightening!
Do doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo!
(Yessum just did a spinning jump-kick in the air before landing gracefully!)

Or maybe:

(Yessum plays the air lyre. ROCK ON!)

Finally:

You notice Yessum stick his hand into your pocket and pull out an uncut diamond.

Too bad she isn't able to actually roleplay with you and think that maybe you've got a bad side to yourself. Great job of her throwing a completely OOC comment into the mix.

In general, it's my experience that people enjoy Elanthia because it does not change. Again, this is a generalization, but consider: your clothes never need washing, you never age with any regularity, you don't need to brush your teeth, krolvins are the same as they were back in 1997, and so on. It is, in essence, a way to stay young forever.

I'm in your camp though about character evolution. People change. If your character does not change due to what it's seen and done, they're static and transparent. I wouldn't let one person's expectations ruin your fun in game.

Of course they're allowed to change. I can say I actually RP'd the switch to Paladin, and his whole outlook is different. He acts different, talks different, reacts different. It is justifiable considering that most people occasionally do shit they don't normally do, just for a change of pace. There's an abundance of tards in GS, but it's so blatantly because there's also an abundance of good, normal people.

So, you probably lost a client. That comes with the territory and she should have known the best way to handle the situation would have been to RP it out. Accusing someone of being bought just because they aren't behaving the way one is used to is very poor form no matter how you look at it.

That's pretty dumb stealing from a person who was a good client. Her OOC crap was stupid.. but this isn't the end of the world. I mean if someone YOU knew all of a sudden started stealing from you after a good business relationship, you'd wonder wtf was up too.

Hell, even if she really was concerned she could have OOC whispered to you asking if you had been bought by someone else.

I think that's some real crappy RP on her behalf.

But it's not the "RP" persay thats bothering him.. it's that she's accusing him of being bought because he's all of a sudden stealing from her.

I think it's funny how quick people are to assume that a character has been bought. There's been times where I'll talk to someone who I haven't seen in a long time and they're like "Is this the real Augie?"

:wtf:

I guess in the way that Elanthia is today, it's understandable some people can think that when a character acts completely different that they may be sold. It's far more commonplace now then it was when I first started playing.

It fucking pisses me off though. I'll shatter the face of the next person who whispers to me "Is that the same Chica?" I blame Showal for spreading the rumour that the old Chica spoke spanish! ;)

I think you are confusing clerics with empaths....

My cleric is neither happy or bouncy!

*twitches*

But yeah, if she comes at you again, tell her to get lost. If she goes into the tower spouting about how you stole from her, I think most of them are just going to laugh at her and most likely pick her pocket too.

That's pretty dumb stealing from a person who was a good client.

Only if you get caught. Which, she did catch me, I'll give her that.

And if you mean regular client a few years back, by "good" client, yeah, she was a good client. She never responded to my IC RPing of a locksmith, nor did she ever do much beyond the "3 from wherever, anyone open?" thing. Was she a good client as in she slept with me? Sure as hell not.

This is such a headache, cause now she's spreading rumors that I'm bought. You have a long absense, and come back, and suddenly your bought. god, I hate this, might as well put this rogue back in the closet for another 2 years.

joke
Anyone want to buy a rogue? ;)
/joke

Edited to add: I used the cleric example because I had a Voln cleric who was a nice guy, and then one day, there was an invasion in the cemetary and I RPed that I was possessed, and suddenly became this cleric who was trying to be nice, but controlled by some dark force....and I got all the same questions about being bought. But at least it was somewhat understandable in this case: during my "possessions", I didn't remember any of my friends (or enemies), and did random uber 1337 dark pwnz0r type things. Leave it to the general populace of Elanthia to "not get it".

Coming from a player of a thief and locksmith, I disagree with your opening statement. My character was a thief first, everything else second. The majority of the time he bothered to pick some boxes I'd make sure to make a mental note of where they keep their gems and if they happened to have a nice gem they put away then I'd aim for it right then. It's amazing how desperate some people/characters get when they want their boxes opened, they'll goto the lowest of the low if they have to in order to get their boxes opened. Rogues in general have a bad reputation and it shouldn't be much of a surprise that over time, a rogue starts stealing.

I also disagree with your last statement as you can't bring a real business perspective into gemstone, it just doesn't make much sense at all. So he picked some boxes for her, and from what I've seen she seems to suck. Characters that suck tend to get stolen from more times than characters that don't suck, regardless of their "business relations".

Yea, basically Alfue said it all...

Plenty of great locksmithes rob their client blind as they pick open their boxes. Locksmithing is a shady job. You are openning things that are not yours... Meaning a locksmith is not a GOOD natured character...

Also I wanted to add. Part of being a really good thief is being caught and thrown in jail a few times... Because it only teaches ya to be better!

When i first started playing Dhask, I was worried to get caught. I came from a background of playing GOOD ALIGNED characters. But I ran into Yipsy hunting hobgoblins and we started as a low level duo of thieves! Hog was the first person to really BUST me though(I had been caught before, but no one really caused a big deal about it, or ever said anything at all. I <3 afk open pouches!). I was a good 10 levels over him, he was a wizard, I obviously a rogue, and he busted me off my first attempt on em in Solhaven. He blew up in all the markets, set a higher leveled empath after me, thought on the amunet. Totally sucked ass! Solhaven being my main city as well!

It only helped me develop more RP to a situation of this nature...
