How many times have you got caught?

Drew2
12-26-2005, 08:21 PM
Well like, everytime you see only one from a person? They either caught me or walked off.

That's why I either steal in the crypt or from dead bodies in the field. :D

My new hobby:

* Person just bit the dust!

225 person
steal person
steal person
steal person
steal person
steal person
steal person
keep person
fog person into town
heal person
repeat

Booty and exp! Who needs hunting!?

Damn Tayre, yer picking from people with some high perception...

FinisWolf
12-26-2005, 09:02 PM
Perception helps you less then actual ranks in pick pocket when it comes to catching a thief. Or so I understood it.

Heh, no... Was testing with my friend. I was 30 at the time he was 60. He was singled in perception I was doubled in pick pocketing. He caught me almost every time... Then with his ranger who was 25 but doubled in perception, he again caught me just about every time... No pickpocketing skills with either of em...

I started pick pocketing at 8... Just need to have balls and get ready to die alot...

The testing was done in the small park with about 12 people in the room.

It's been pointed out several times in the rogue folder. Thieves are ALWAYS at the disadvantage when someone if training in just perception. On top of fumble attempts.

The funny thing is, I'm a high level empath, so not many people can do anything about it anyway!

It's even more fun when someone notices they are missing gems, and all the blame falls on some poor hapless rogue who was standing in TC looking for healing.

Ahh, memories.

Yes, I realize that dork. However, it seems that it's based somewhat on the train of the thief as well as the ranks of perception of the mark from what I saw on this thread. I think I'm going to wait until she is around 25 first.

Here's one that actually didn't end in bloodshed, but was still fun!

[Graveyard, Crypt]
The entry foyer to this enormous granite crypt is stark, adorned only with grisly friezes sculpted in low relief into the walls. Bands of bluish-green ahnver are inlaid into the stone in thin strips just below the ceiling throughout the entire structure, bathing the rooms in a subtle light. A shadowy arch curves overhead and leads deeper into the inner sanctum of the sepulcher. You also see a cracked urn.

You see Qartermane the Rover.
He appears to be a Human.
He appears to be young and taller than average. He has sparkling blue-grey eyes and tanned skin. He has shoulder length, tied back steel grey hair swept back from the temples. He has a weathered face, an aquiline nose and a short beard.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a light golden vaalorn longsword in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold ring, a crystal amulet, a silvery green vultite helm, a black ankle-strapped sheath, a jade-clasped leather knife case, an emerald silk sash, a dark green serpent skin scabbard, a small leather coin pouch, a kelyn mesh harness with masterfully carved bone buckles, a pair of satin-paned breeches, a pair of diamond-studded thighguards, some knee-high buccaneer's boots, a pair of diamond-studded bracers, a fancy deer skin cloak, a ruby amulet, some darkly stained double leather, and an intricately carved wooden medallion.

179-degree tangent here...

Intuition
A person's innate or instinctive ability to sense things without conscious deduction or critical analysis. It is distinctively different from Logic in that it refers to the ability to make decisions or leap to conclusions with little or no overt supporting evidence, relying more upon subconscious "hunches." Included in intuition would be what is commonly referred to as a "sixth sense", prescience, perception, and luck.

Aside from training in perception, does *anyone* know if any given character's intuition bonus (or perhaps other stat bonuses, as well) will somehow tie into stopping and/or spotting thieves?

IMO empaths shouldn't be stolen from because they can't go to the bank all the time, same with clerics.

When I started playing I was told that people should never steal from clerics or empaths, but that everyone else was fair game.

explain to me how an empath can't goto the bank?

Crawl west
Crawl bank
Crawl arch
deposit all
stand
go arch
out
e

Proceed to heal

Explain clerics too, as that is the most retarded thing i've heard in a long time.

And from a rogue's perspective, wtf? Why would a rogue care if someone can make it to the bank or not, in fact, don't you think that those that can't make it to the bank would be the best characters to steal from?

I get shit from other rogues all the time saying, "Don't steal from a rogue, bad form" Blah blah blah, hearthstone rogues are the worst with this. Unless you're a thief that Alfue respects, there is no way he's going to stay out of your pockets. It's that simple

The point is, a true thief in my opinion, does not care who you are. If they see what they want, they'll take it regardless of whom it's from..

As a warrior, I can't go to the bank all the time because I'm doing warrior shit. As a wizard, I can't go to the bank all the time because I'm doing wizard shit. As a paladin, I can't go to the bank all the time because I'm doing paladin shit. How the fuck is it harder for an empath or cleric to go to the fucking bank?

So far my only decent mark was Chica.

Also, too many people with jaws traps.

Still working out the kinks:

Date Range: 12/29/2005 - 12/29/2005
Total Silvers Pocketed: 319
Total Pocketed (incl gems): 17119
Botch %: 9.43%
Average Silvers Per Grab: 39.88
-------------------------------------
amulet: 4
crystal: 3
gem: 1
Herb: 5
jewelry: 1
misc: 4
wand: 2

Makes me sad to see average silvers go down and botch % go up.

I need to add gold rings to the jewelry values.

Empaths without perception SHOULD be targets.

Hell, my empath (back in the day) trained in perception, stalking and hiding, and (!) picking pockets. My empath even dressed like a rogue. You wouldn't even know that [she] was an empath.

Amberain glances at Tayre.

Amberain softly says, "Tayre is a thief here."
Tayre says, "Your mom."
Amberain softly says, "So watch yer pockets."
Amberain softly says, "Guess i go find the night watchamn."
Amberain winks.
Amberain stretches.
Luswenda traces a sign while petitioning the spirits for cognition...
Luswenda gestures.
A sense of peace and calm settles over the area.
Tayre utters a light chant and raises his hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to his aid...
Luswenda has informed you that their spell Minor Sanctuary lasts for 49 minutes, and you have adjusted accordingly.
Tayre swears vehemently enough to scour the bark from a tree.
Tayre just went south.
Amberain softly says, "Least i can see."

You reach into Amberain's pockets and pull out 143 silvers.

You reach into Tayre's pockets and pull out 105 silvers.
You reach into Tayre's soot black backpack and pull out a blue crystal.

Tayre drops some acantha leaf.
Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum asks, "Who'd you get that leaf from?"
Tayre says, "Your mom."
Tayre put a gold ring in his soot black backpack.
Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum exclaims, "Oh, a gold ring!"
Tayre says, "Also your mom."

You couldn't find anything worth taking. Maybe you should offer Tayre a donation instead.

Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum says, "My mom has been known to carry such things."
Tayre drops some ambrominas leaf.
Tayre drops a crystal amulet.
You carefully take hold of the crystal amulet while remaining in the shadows.
You put a crystal amulet into your pack, being careful not to reveal your location.

Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum asks, "Quite bold, aren't you?"
Tayre asks, "Bold? how's that?"
Tayre drops some acantha leaf.
Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum says, "Most theives have the decency to at least ..."
Speaking to Tayre, Aconitum says, "Dispose of their unwanted and wanted goods more discretely."

A small, shaded park fills an old vacant lot behind a row of buildings, the bright lamplight from the square filtering through the passage to the north to illuminate the area with a soft glow. A weatherworn grey marble statue of a stocky human in pioneer's clothing overlooks the park, his stone hat encrusted by the gifts of decades of passing birds and his right hand half-upraised as if it once held some now-missing object. You also see a Wehnimer's runner, some light leather, a wooden shield, a short sword, a simple maoral strongbox, the Septiego disk, an engraved brass chest, a flagon of Dragonsdraught ale and a short sword.

You ask Lornkrek to appraise the contents of an CONTAINER.
The dwarven clerk takes the CONTAINER and inspects the contents carefully before saying, "There are 52 items that I do not deal with at all. I found one piece of jewelry that I do not buy in container deals. I did find 256 gems that I'll give you 1601709 silver for, if you want to sell."
