Thanks

Laptop or Desktop?
And hell for five thousand you should be able to get an amazing computer in either form.
Heck, for two thousand you should be able to do the same.

Does anyone really need a 5k computer? Can't you get something already ridiculously top-of-the-line for 3k or less?

Are dells any good compared to alienware?
I bought a top-of-the-line dell desktop three years ago for around $2,200 and I've never had any problem with it. It still runs amazingly well and plays WoW without any difficulty.

You'd have to ask the more tech savy of our posters, but I can't think of any games out now or due out soon that that beast shouldn't be able to run smoothly.

Only game I intend to play in the near future is nwn2
and I can't wait for that badboy to come out :)
I'm looking forward to NWN2 as well... I loved NWN and the expansions.

You could always buy a POS, then go to the chop shop and put more RAM on your POS than could ever possibly be added by the standard process of ordering online from a computer webstore.

I finally ordered my new Dell computer last night.
With the customization and new monitor (24 inch flat screen), it came out to roughly $5200, including tax and shipping.
(The very nice Xmas present to myself) should last me at least 3 years.
Had my current one since Dec 2001, and will probably give it to my younger brother after moving some stuff from it to the new one.

Ill suggest as if I were to have more money than time to invest building a custom:
VooDoo ARIA (http://www.voodoopc.com/showroom.aspx?productID=1076)
Dell 3007WFP (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/brand/3007wfp?c=u)
And just because I love the setup:
Logitech DiNovo (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2158,CONTENTID=10777)

I've got an alienware Area 51. I love it so much, I'd hump it if I could. Wonder how much that costs for an addon...

DO NOT BUY A DELL. BUY AN ALIENWARE BECAUSE YOU CAN AFFORD IT. DELL IS LYING TO YOU.
That is all.

If you really want to throw away cash at a computer, I'd suggest going to http://www.falcon-nw.com/index.asp
They put Alienware to shame in the 'random shit you don't need but we'll charge you enough money to fill the anal column of the goatse guy' category. But their build quality is top notch. If I had all kinds of money I didn't know what to do with, and I was really lazy, that's where I'd go.
falcon is good.....dell has quality products.....BUT alienware has the most innovative designs and top notch customer service.
Again there dual processor and dual vid card is best for gaimng and vid editing software!

I agree if you're gonna waste money on an overpriced custom then fuk alienware and go with Falcon.

You can build your own computer comparable to Alienware for much less.
Alienware is for idiots with too much money. Orrr, if you really like the alien casing.
You know what, I know a dude who says all this same shit. I build my computer. I get it all cheap and have the max machine.
I’ve seen what he does. He goes to computer shops and tells them what he wants and has them do it then turns around and says HE built it.
I guess its stupid to suggest you could get an awesome dual processor Mac with a 30" widescreen monitor for under $5G.

Well those companies are also for people who don't have the technical expertise to provide their own support.
Not everyone can and thus companies like Dell and Alienwar and Gateway stay in business.

The Dell computer I ordered has similiar specifications, some of which are superior.
Anyhow, the $5k also include software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc...
.
I'm quite satisifed with what I'm getting for what I spent, and I'm also comfortable with the knowledge that it is Dell-manufactured with a Dell warranty.
I've never had problems with Dell computers, but have had some with other manufacturers.

I bought my alienware last year, and got a hellagood deal with a rebate. If you buy during their specials, their prices are competitive.

!!!!!!!!!! $5200!?!?!?!?!? !!!!!!!!!!
Damn, bro, I toldja I coulda made you one for a lot less. Geez, $2,000 less than that price with the same monitor which itself costs $950. Hell, I woulda built it as a dual-core entertainment PC and gaming rig like I have as mine so you could even watch cable on it and record TV shows with it's on DVR and it'd have all the overkill stuff like SLI'd 7800 GTX 512MB cards. All in a nice compact Lian Li case like mine unless you want the huge rice'd out case with flashy lights.
Return it if ya can and I'll only charge ya $200 plus shipping to build a better PC than that, not the $2,000+ extra they're charging you.
