why every now and then does it sound like the fan on the side of my computer is going to explode or something?

Because it is?
Seriously, I have no idea, but I did have a fan go out once on a computer. Burned it up real well.

The bearings are probably wearing out. Time to get a new fan.

ther bearings can't be wearing out, this thing is like 8 months old... if they are i want a damn refund... but it isn't a constant problem, like it just sounded like it was going to explode for about 5 minutes... and now it's running quietly again

Is it an AMD?
My case fan stopped working in less than a year. If it's not the bearings, maybe the screws bolting it down are loose.

yeah kranar, it's an AMD but it's not the chip fan, it's a window fan on the side of the case

Sometimes there is dirt or debree caught in em. If you have a dirty area where its at yah might wanna try a can of air.

It doesn't matter how old it is. If it's whining and rattling the bearings aren't lubed or it's out of balance.
If you just replaced the fan and not the power supply, that is probably your problem. If not, it probably got clogged that it pushed the blades out of balance.
Replace the power supply and fan.

Is it the power supply fan or the chip fan?
There are two.
Also, there are several things in your machine that could be making loud noise as well.
In almost all cases, it probably means replacing a part.

Or cleaning one... A lot of times a can of air will take care of things without buying and installing new parts. We have one at work that the tech guy is just waiting for the fan to finish dying, the sound drives us nuts, but the cpu is 7 years old and he's hoping to be able to replace it.

My power supply fan is going out too. It makes a buzzing noise sometimes when I turn it on and I can just tap it and it stops. Sad thing is, I have the replacement fan for it here on my desk for about two weeks now, but I haven't had the will to fix it.
