So I got a ridiculous (77% pay increase) offer from an IT Consulting firm in Northern Virginia. Guess it's career change time for this guy.

Bob, multiply that by 5. And you're in the ballpark.

Sweet. Consulting is the only way to go, especially if you know what your doing (which is more often than not the case with good consulting firms).
For those of you anti-consultants out there, consultants actually identify the problems (that companys and employees make for themselves) and fix them.

I honestly thought computer-savvy folk made more money than that. Definitely don't know THAT market.

I'm from that area. Reston. What company are you working for?

Good job. Hope that works out for you.
IT consultant....I need one of those. Merisol is still using Paradox, and Helena dosnt even have an electonic file system. Ugh. New projects.
NOVA is home to all the defense/rebuilding/government contractor work. You scored big time.

Lots of opportunity there. Northrop Grumman, SAIC, Lockheed Martin, etc. Everyone needs IT people.

IT consulting is great. I've been doing it for a few years, making around 25-50/hr when on-job. I'm just a kid, too, although damned good at what I do, it seems. I recently got a pretty good contract with New York State. All your medical records are belong to me!
Good luck, and when I open my own consulting firm, or become a head-honcho, i'll double yer current rate, and make you work half... gotta have the occasional "hunting breaks," ya know!
Congrats, btw.

Bob's post, "What are you making, $177 a week?"
.
You make $65,000 a year working at Wal Mart? I'm in the wrong business.

Car buying plans, nothing in the immediate future until my shitbox car breaks down again. Maybe I'll be able think about getting that CTS, or a V6 07 Camry in a year or so.

I just can't see myself wasting money on a new car purchase anytime in the future. That does not mean I don't WANT a new car but just don't see it as a rational decision.

I saw the Transporter 2 on the plane ride back, and I was like, "Whoa, I want that Audi..."
Looked it up on the website: $118,000.00. No wonder I wanted it. Almost everyone does, I suppose.
