Is this viable? I don't really have the points to do what I want to... Be a spell casting power house and a defensive power house. Is this even worth it, or is it a waste of time to not have a weapon to go with the parry defense?

I belive if you train in brawling at least once you'll be okay (Not sure you even need the one rank, but you might to get the base parry bonus). In offensive stance, weapon training provides 20% of your weapon training ranks. So at 100 ranks, that's only 20 points of DS... So basically it will have very little effect on your offensive stance DS. Defensive stance you'd be more likely to notice it.

Stun, your stats show 29 ranks of weapon training... He's talking about none at all (right?). Just test to see if one rank makes a difference over zero ranks (and do it in brawling... can't be disarmed/open hand)

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it, I was hoping I wasn't on the fast track for a heartbreak when I had to give up my wizard. I like him so far.
Yes, I did mean absolutely no weapon training, but I guess I can throw a handful of ranks at it when I hit level 20 and finish tripling spells

A snow madrinol claws at you!
AS: +302 vs DS: +407 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +2 = -66
A clean miss.
In defensive, self-spelled, with 2 critters in room.

Also, for clarification, the Mage has 2x full leathers, and a 7x shield. The dagger is plain 4x, which I plan to take to 7x.
< He's talking about none at all (right?) >
If you don't want a weapon, please do yourself a favor and .5x brawling or something. I've never liked a runestaff wizard, personally. I would concentrate your TP's on 1x'ing Shield, then worry about your weapon hand, iffin I were you ( like I myself did ).

I thought I remember them taking away the DS bonus from regular enchanted weapons? I haven't tested it in a while (and don't feel like doing it now) but having a 0x dagger in your hand should provide the same DS as a 10x dagger.

I believe the new rule is 1/2 enchant is direct parry DS. So a 10x dagger would give 25 DS + ranks/20.
Note for the mechanics nazi's, I am willing to be wrong here.

I was told by a GM that one rank of brawling does, indeed, make a difference. I just dont remember how much cause i didnt care at the time.

I think that stance also effects weapon enchant DS.

Last time I ran a test weapon enchant had no effect on DS, that said my test was hardly conclusive and was a while ago.
More likely to bring credibility to my statement: Tsoran's spreadsheet does not ask for weapon bonus to calculate DS. Not that the spreadsheet is the end-all of how mechanics work, but it's been pretty accurate for me.
So don't jump the gun and buy yourself high enchant weapons you won't use until you're sure. (I am willing to be wrong here too, I'm a mere Sturmmann, not a Reichsfuhrer)
