Good movie, though the first 45mins - 1 hour were a real drag.

Once they get to the isle it is absolute insanity. Definitely worth catching in theaters.

Sad, of course, though I cried more at Goblet of Fire.

You routinely cry at movies?

Haha

Yep. Big one. In my defense? I probably enjoy the movies I watch more than you.

You cried at Goblet of Fire?

No, I'm just teasing. Thats cool, mang. :D

I wanted to see Kong today but I was *cough* broke. I get paid tonight so I'll see it tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation!

The action scenes in the movie are worth the price of admission alone. Though the acting was solid, the movie itself did drag horribly in the beginning.

There are battles, however, that will remain classics much as they were before the filming of this version (Kong Vr T-rex, Kong Vr Airplanes, ect).
I think the movie tops the more recent Star Wars for realistic graphics in terms of its monsters and people's interractions with them.

Despite all the fighting, I never once saw a drop of blood. It would be a good movie for those kids who like action, but are a bit too young to see a man gun down 200 ninjas with an assault rifle.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Stray is solidly in defense mode. Watch out for witty, but ultimately useless replies and movements away from original arguments and into semantics.

Alright, fair enough. If you don't even like the books, you wont like the movies.

QFT. Let's end the Harry Potter movie discussion and keep this about King Kong again. Thanks.

QFT? Quit fucking talking? hehe

They should simply split the thread. I am sure many of those on these sites would love a chance to bash HP.

On-Topic

Everyone knows that the guy who was the cook was the same guy who did the acting for Gollum, and for King Kong?

Heh, no. QFT is "Quoted For Truth". ;)

I thought King Kong was fucking lame. It was more about dinosaurs than anything else, and they spent way too long on the island. I walked out with about 45 minutes to go and they still hadn't caught the bastard. The insect scene was a total joke.

Would my 5 year old enjoy it or is it a wait for video type o deal?

No man has ever gunned down 200 ninjas with an assault rifle. The only man that can actually kill a ninja in combat is Chuck Norris.

Its starting to piss me off all these headlines that read "Is King Kong racist?"

Is the media really that dense?

The liberal media is .. yes.

I dunno. Given some of the stuff Michael Savage spews, I'd say the conservative media is that dense too.

How about we call it what it is... the ignorant media. They're everywhere. :P

I don't know, probably. I was never 5, I skipped straight to 13.

The whole concept of the story is considered racist to some because you have this big black brute stolen from his homeland, put in chains and caged, shipped overseas, used by the white man to make money, and falling for and stealing the white man’s woman.

You could look at it that way... or you could look at it as just a fantasy story.

Only Freud could tell you who has the problems.

Hulkein

That's actually pretty funny.

Yes, considering it was a gargantuan ape and not a black man in a complete fantasy world where dinosaurs still existed.

I’ve always loved the story from the animal perspective. That Kong wasn’t a brute, just misunderstood. The stories show Kong as understanding everything and in the end, while at first seeming an uncontrollable beast, we weep when he dies because we learn that he was a victim, and he understood everything.

To me it more of a story about how we need to have more respect for the animal kingdom.

And to celebrate this story of respect for the animal kingdom, Burger King introduces the TRIPLE WHOPPER (http://www.bk.com/CompanyInfo/onlinepressroom/index.aspx)!

How can you not like a big gorilla taking on T-rexes? Thats tha shit right therre. If I were a big gorilla I'd fight dinosaurs and eat bananas all day. Like Chuck Norris.

I agree with all this, but I am sad to say I think the movie dragging in so many parts created a loss of impact in a storyline they could have really worked on a lot more. The woman just yells NOOO a lot and didn't ever try to talk sense into anyone.

And it just toooook foreverrrr to get to some parts. The t-rex scene was awesome, and my favorite part will always be Kong and Ann on the ice in Central Park.

My friends almost didn't make it through at all.

just saw this movie yesterday, and it was much different than what I expected. Then again, it's the first movie I've seen since coming back to the States, so I didn't really have any expectations, I was busy chowing down on the chicken fingers (chicken fingers in a movie: fucking brilliant).

I enjoyed it, it seemed to me like a modern Moby Dick or Old Man and the Sea, where you sympathize more with the "villainous" animal than with the protaganists. If you've ever read Ishmael, I think it mirrors that.

I also liked the references to Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, if only to make people want to read it. I thought it was a little cheesy that these sailors on this steam ship were discussing it though.

As for the "racist" view, if anything, I would think it would be the opposite - it shows the supposed bad guy, IE Kong, as the victim, the one who can appreciate beauty, and so on and so forth, whereas Jack Black's character, who had promised to dedicate the film to the people who died making it, was, in the end, the shallow idiot who was just in it for the bucks.

Maybe that's why the conservatives disliked it - it had a negative portrayal of white, Western capitalists. ;)

If you want a racist movie (based on racist books), look no further than the LotR trilogy. I love the books and the movies, but hey, the good guys are white men with blue eyes and flowing locks, while the guys who come to aid Sauron ride elephants, are darker skinned, and from the South and the East (IE, Africa and Asia)? Geez.

Back to Kong: that last line - what utter cheese, but I liked it.
