View Full Version : Not falling asleep/Staying awake: Help!

I must make myself not feel tired for the next 24 hours, roughly, and simultaneously be able to maintain greater cognitive abilities during this period of not-tiredness from around the hours of roughly 9:30 AM to at least 2:00 PM on December 15th (tomorrow.)
After that time, it is important that I maintain awakedness, however, higher thought processes are not anywhere nearly as important, as exams and quizes will have been taken care of (hopefully) by that point.
P.S. I'm not supposed to be absorbing more caffiene, daily, than that which is found in a 12 ounce can of Coca-Cola, although I am willing to make ten or thirty exceptions within the next 24 hours.

Monster, Sobe Adrenaline, Doubleshot, Jolt, Mountain Dew/Amp, etc etc... all that stuff works for a temporary solution... if you want a real solution it's proper exercise, but that's not going to kick in so fast.

Eat light and often instead of a couple of solid meals. It won't keep you awake, but it'll prevent that "I gotta take a nap" feeling when your belly is full.

P.S. Or you could take freeze dried coffee out of an MRE, add a little water to make a thick coffee paste, and put it in the corners of your eyes. Works on long patrolling ops.

One half of my suggestion. I would not recommend speed though. Trust me on this one.
Best thing you can do is get someone else on the program. Better yet, peoples.

Is this some kind of psych test?
Red Bull and other energy drinks are typically loaded with caffeine, so if you can't drink Coke, you can't drink those either. As odd as it may sound, when I have to stay up for long periods, eating something makes me wake up. I don't usually eat cookies and things either. I will eat real food - omelettes, sandwiches, etc. I also like sweet fruits like granny smith apples, magoes, etc. Most importantly - STAY BUSY.

My old shifts from 6pm till 8am used to drive me crazy. I used redbull, GS and sometimes speed to keep it happening.
If they failed or were failing I'd drink shit loads of coffee and start a mammoth technical drawing task.
Shit, that used to keep me up for weeks in college. I wish you good luck man. You'll be fine.

Start smoking for a day.
Cut yourself lightly with razors, just enough to hurt in areas not visible to regular public and play with them when you're done... Smack them, salt them, etc. Salt doesn't hurt as bad as most people tend to make it.
Stay away from masturbating! I know it sounds like a good idea but once you're done you'd wish you hadn't done it.
Like Hakonne mentioned, except put in coffee in your mouth like a big wad of dip/snuff. That's how we did it for patrols.
Get your heartrate up. Jumping jacks, run in place, etc, then jump in the shower and take one a little too cold for comfort.

Despite not knowing the reason...pseudometh ERRR pseudoephedrine helps me stay on I'll stab someone level of awake when needed.

I read in maxim that looking at porn and not jerking off helps. I guess it does something where it increases your adrenaline because you're ready to compete or something, but if you jerk off, it'll be bed time. Get a prescription for a drug called modafinil. It's essentially a low grade safe cocaine. It works in similar ways, but not in all the ways of coke. Good luck getting the prescription though. Nothing, short of sleep, will truly help you keep your cognitive functions at their peak.

Hrm. Perhaps I should have asked for suggestions geared more towards gingko vs. green tea and less towards mainling hydrocarbons vs. pouring Folgers coffee into orifices, but uhhh... Thanks for the help? :-\
I have greatly taken into consideration and am currently applying the less-filling meals technique but have miserably failed the not waxing of the tallywacker as only the first few days of the week are far more likely to be my masturbation Sabbath(s) whereas the last few days are ... not. I am very religious in this sense.

Energy drinks: I prefer monster.
Other methods: Hakonne is right on, and also mentioned was putting caffiene/freeze dried coffee in your mouth...if you feel like youre about to fall asleep...
Be sure to put it under your tongue.
Read an article about how scientists have discovered athletes/people can put caffiene under their tongue or, I suppose, as hak said in the corner of your eyes it is absorbed MUCH faster than drinking. The caffiene will go directly to your bloodstream instead of sitting in your stomach waiting to be absorbed.
As for getting tasks done, if youre writing papers...masterbation is okay and is a great motivator. Dont let yourself look at porn until youve completed a paper/assignmet, then reward yourself. ;-)
