This thread is to discuss today's drawing, and the coming World Cup in 2006.

I'm specifically asking now that the merits of soccer not be debated in this thread, and there be no "Go bacchi ball! Soccer sucks!" posts.

The United States got three unlibricated fingers in the ass with the drawing. If we manage to scrape out second place in the most difficult group, we get the honor of annhiliation by the Brazilians. Good times!

What was your opinion of the draw?

-England will walk through to the knockout round for sure.

-I'm surprised they didn't put American Samoa in Germany's group. Seriously,... it looks too easy.

-I think Spain will choke. Again.

We had a pretty decent draw. Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago will be no problem, Sweden will be more of a work out but we really have no excuse not to make it through the group stages.

We could potentially face Germany in the quarters and Argentina in the semi's though I believe. That would be a bit of a challenge, nothing the boys can't handle though!

Group C looks pretty interesting, The Netherlands and Argentina in the same group... Also, I think F looks pretty interesting too, can't wait for the summer! Unfortunately for you Americans, I don't see you getting past Italy and the Czech Republic.

England never walk through anything.
They have an uncanny knack of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

If England lost to Trinidad and Tobago it would be a fucking crime. I think I would get on a plane and kick Svens ass back to Sweden.

England is indeed the definition of choke these days.
I'm pulling for the US as I do every four years, and hope they pleasently surprise me as they have done in the past.

That must be a fleeting feeling Mistomeer. They've only won like ten games ever in the history of the world cup.

Soccer's one of those sports that I have a blast playing, but stands a few rungs above professional bowling when it comes to watchin other people play.

My sports hierarchy:

1. College football
2. College basketball
3. Pro basketball
4. Pro football
5. Tennis

No.

You're obviously misinterpreting the holy scripture.

I am rooting for USA, but...I think Argentina is going to win.

Only thing I can't figure out is who is going to lose to Argentina in the finals.

Brazil or Mexico?

Probably Brazil, they do have the top player's (the 3 r's) in the tournement. But then again, if Oswaldo Sanchez play's some defense, the Mexican's could pull it out.

So my final prediction:

Argentina 3 Brazil 2

Player to watch...Lionel Messi

The USA won't win period. They have years before they will become a serious contender if ever. Soccer (Football) just isn't big in America.

It is England's year to win, they are overdue. As long as they get some fair calls from the refs, I think they can do it. No choking this year.

Rooney was impressive last World Cup, he may be an ass from time to time but he is a wicked striker.

I think Argentina won't even advance out of group play.

US could do it, we can definately beat or draw Italy, the Czechs are tougher but we could draw them. All we have to do is draw, draw, win against Ghana by 2 goals to advance.

We can definately BEAT or DRAW Italy? I think we'd be lucky to draw them. Czech's are not easy, and, after following African soccer for the past year, Ghana may be the sleeper of the whole Finals, they're not easy.

Personally, I think we CAN do it, after all, no one said we could beat Costa Rica in 94.

Anyone who mentions that we in fact did not beat them, and that they own-goaled themselves, will be shot like that selfsame guy who put the ball in his own net, the sucker.

Drew, that's one of the reasons I chose the Argentinian team.

The confidence this team will have after winning the group play will carry them to the finals. IMO
