Is it me, or do we not get as much experience from our XXX as we used to?

Renian

It's you.

I gain 1.5k exp an hour normally. With XXX, I gain 4.5k. Psinet tracks it for me.

Evelith and I were just commenting a few days ago that our XXX seemed to get cheap all of a sudden

My guess is that it's totally psychological: some factor is making you think that it's less effective than it was, be it because you're accustomed to having so much experience now, you need more experience to level, etc. I'm sure numerical data will show XXX's consistency.

Heh, is that Skeletor as your avatar?

Nope, I just finished my xxx and gained about 25k during the whole thing. Typical gains for me.

xxx runs for 3+3 hours whenever you're gaining experience. If you sit around fresh and clear it's running out just as quickly as if you're fried. Maybe that's the problem?

Don't forget it depends on how long it takes you to free too.. If you're hunting in an area where the node is two rooms away, gonna have a lot more on-node time for the better exp. Those two-three extra minutes add up if it is happening each hunt. Depending on how much lag I have during xxx I get between 22,000 and 30,000 during XXX.

Actually I noticed this also lastweek, normally I can gain 30K-35Kexp during the tripple season, however I only got like 15K-20K... did not die or anything.. just odd.

How the hell do you get 30-35k exp in XXX time?! Am I playing the wrong game?

StrayRogue

30k is my average as well. I've been seeing reduced exp gain however the last few weeks.

mine has been between 25-30k as well, dependant on the character i play.

30k is the goal, but I have rarely if ever achieved it. I usually average 25-27k on my XXX, with near maxed stats and constant hunting.

My question to you all is what is the most beneficial time to return to hunting? Clear, Fresh, muddled?

Also, Stray, make sure where you are resting is a true node. It's a duh thing, but i've seen it happen to people.

I tend to rest on the dais.

I go hunting at just becoming numbed. Imagine your mind as a bucket. I believe the max exp your head can hold is 1000. Every pulse it goes down. However it doesn't go down by an even amount. It goes down by more to begin with and reduces as your mind empties. So, and this is just random numbers, the first pulse will reduce your mind by 400, the second will be 350, then 200, etc etc.

So it's therefore best to hunt when it's still relatively full to get the most exp absorbed possible.

The max bucket size used to be affected by a stat (Logic maybe?), I don't know if it is anymore.

Also, they claimed (and casual examination on my part seemed to agree) that the difference in absorption between fried and clear was made less substantial.

I'm going with Bob's take.

Damn... I been getting roughly 20-22k and I thought I was getting all that I can out of it. Most the time it's 18k.

Who said they're getting 35k per XXX? Thats an average of 97.2 xp a minute. During the 2x, yer averaging 77.8 a minute, and during the 3x portion, you're getting 116.6 a minute. Which means your normal pulse on node with a full mind has to be 38.9 xp a minute. Even if you could manage to have a full mind for every pulse of your XXX, who has a normal pulse of almost 39 points. I don't buy it...

An empath or locksmith could do it. Just stay fried and never leave a node.

Latrinsorm

As someone who has an empath with maxxed mental stats, no. 39 per pulse is ridiculous.

The Ponzzz

Yea, I can't see the 35k happening even if I hunt, and get 100 boxes from the creatures I hunt. I mean i can carry 7 boxes before I beging to lag enough to notice. And I have hardly ever come back with 7 boxes...

I think I saw some research Porcell did on this. The highest obtainable pulse is something like 45, which would be with a maxed out Bhurgal Gnome.

I think my max is like 35 (xp per minute)...and even then, six hours of keeping yourself consistently fried? that would hurt!

StrayRogue

Thats what I try to do. Rest til becoming numbed, make the 30 second jaunt to the ground, kill two things, fry, run back.

Askip

My Dark Elf wizard gets 33 EXP per pulse when fried on a node, and 29 per when clear.

Since there is not much difference, I rest until belled and then hunt until fried again.

:D

Usually I get about 25k, myself. I haven't noticed any difference, lately.

25k or so here..as always... except on rpa when it's 120 a minute first 3 hours... mmm rpa plus xxx

I never did research like that, and the max is not nearly 45. I think the max is 35, maybe +/- 1.

There is not much difference between resting to belled and resting to clear and rehunting. Back in GS3 it would have been a huge difference, but the experience absorption curve is MUCH flatter now than before.

I'd lean toward resting to belled so that you are spending less time out in the field getting lower absorption rates. However, if it only takes you 2 or 3 minutes to get to fried from clear, and you get back to a node very quickly, go ahead and try and burn yourself out by hunting like that. You'll get approximately 1000 more experience over 6 hours by busting your ass and hunting when you hit clear.

The moment I got my XXX I accidently killed myself holding a box I 125'd. Had to decay since no-one seemed to be using the east gate of Icemule. .

Hunted constantly and made 6k with my XXX.
I think that once your CON stat has recovered you should absorb exp at your usual level. I'm gutted!

After reading that exp absorbtion was tinkered with in the move to GS4, I tested for the most efficient cycles using Psinet. I found this method (resting till clear) to garner the best exp rate. I also vaugely recall reading this being confirmed, possibly somewhere on Nilandia's site.

Actually Porcell's info on 45 being the max character can get a exp pulse is correct. The Burghal gnomes are the ONLY profession in GS to have a +10 logic. Everyone else is either +5, 0 or -5. And the max with a 0 bonus is 35.

Latrinsorm
12-26-2005, 06:19 PM
I have characters with logic bonuses of 21 and 26. They each get 32 per when fried. I'm sticking with the theory that 45 per is impossible.

The Ponzzz

I get 35 with my half elf wizard, he's 27 and a maxed logic stat... It follows the formula exactly...

Stupid newbie question of the day: What do I need to tweak to be able to see avatars on the PC? I went looking in the profile area and couldn't find it?

On topic: I wouldn't know if there has been a change to XXX since I just got back to the game a week ago. Loving it though! Given my limited schedule, it's like I'm going to be playing with an RP award bonus every time I'm logged in now. Heh.
