1) Goldeneye/TWINE
2) Time Crisis II
3) Secret of Mana
Given more thought, I would probably change this list about a thousand times. Also, the most powerful home console I ever got was the N64, so I'm not savvy on the new breeds.

Getting invisibility made all the fights trivial. Would have been 20x better as a PnC game with Dog giving some decent advice instead of stupid Powerball. Shadowrun (SEGA) was alright, but I remember dying about 13 times right off the bat to those random orc things on the street. The hacking was way cooler in Sega's version, that's for sure.

In my opinion, picking all the Final Fantasy's as the top games of all times borders on retarded.
To me.. The top three games have to be something that revolutionized video games, created a genre, or made it accessable to the masses due to out standing design.
So... here is my list.
1. Final Fantasy 1
2. Super Mario Bros. 1
3. Super Mario 64
- Final Fantasy 1 really made RPGs accessable to the majority of all Nintendo users. The battle system, story line, and playability was so fucking good that anyone could get into them.
- Super Mario Bros. 1 was one of the best selling games of all times due to the wide appeal of the side scroller type enviroment. While definately not the first, it was for sure one of the most enjoyable that kept people coming to it.
- Super Mario 64 was so well made that it pretty much defined how the side scroller had to evolve. While there were still side scrollers afterwards, on major systems this game marked the beggining of the end for them.

Cause final fantasy 7 kicked ass! The first game i got for my playstation and ill still play it to this day there are so many secrets you have to go through the game a couple times before you get them all.Without useing a guide of course. I mean my first time through i wanted to beat it so didnt bother doing stuff. I didnt even find vincent. Second time through on pc cid was really beefed up to the point where you loose cloud he was level 90 everyone was like 40 and had all his limit breaks. So how i look at it is the best final fantasy and it will stay the best! If you agree awesome. if you dont :talktohand:

BUBBLE BOBBLE FTW.
I can't BELIEVE there are two other people who have heard/played that game.
So:
1. Bubble Bobble
2. Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past
3. Mortal Kombat. (Sadly, I had managed to master all the end moves one summer...fatality, babality, animality, etc.)
How on earth I forgot Gran Turismo is beyond me.
Overlord
12-05-2005, 03:55 AM
1.Final Fantasy VII (Of course!!, although Tactics, hmmm.)
2.Soul Calibur II (revolution man)
3.Counter-Strike!!! (I live to kill!!)
P.S I remember Bubble Bobble back in the damn day, Atari STe style. Stupid bubble blowing baby dinosaur looking things, a blue one and a green one!! Kick ass

At the risk of showing my age:
Tail Gunner
Phantasy Star
Phantasy Star !!
Tail Gunner was an arcade game, kind of primitive but compelling and a real game of skill.
Phantasy Star was a game for the old Sega system (how old am I?) and was the first one we ever saw with anything resembling modern graphics. Mike and I were totally addicted to it and loved playing it together. Same with Phantasy Star II when it came out.
Who hasn't heard of Bubble Bobble? I was all about that game back when I was in elemteray school.

I'm surprised Chrono Trigger wasn't mentioned with the whole big debate not so long ago.
1) Final Fantasy 3/6
2) Chrono Trigger
3) Xenogears
That third choice was pretty hard. I'm torn between so many others that I've played. Vandal Hearts 1, Final Fantasy 2/4, Dragon Force 2, Secret of Mana...
Trinitis
12-05-2005, 11:54 AM
1. Final Fantasy II (US)
2. Black Rose
3. Cannot fill this slot. Too many games qualify.
Edit to add : It's ok, don't feel bad for not knowing what Black Rose is.

Secret of Mana was good, but I wouldn't mark it as more fun than any of the two (FF6/CT). If anything, the multiplayer feature is the only thing that stopped SoM from being too... tedious.
Latrinsorm
12-05-2005, 01:39 PM
SoM only got tedious if you maxxed everything (as I did). Also, there wasn't much to speak of in the way of sidequests, unlike CT and FF6. I guess saying it was better was a bit hasty.

Final fantasy kicks ass! And if anyone can tell me why final fantasy was named that i will give them a 1 hour spellup in landings when they want it. i know it so ill correct. my mage is sill young. ok answer away

Smartass answer:
They knew they were going to make a whole series, and in keeping with the logic of Final Fantasy's plot (I still want to meet the guy who thought up that Time Loop insanity), named the first one "Final".
Answer I'm pretty sure is right:
Square was going out of business, and this was the last game they were going to make. Surprise! Big success.

12-05-2005, 03:01 PM
Yes thats why it was named Final fantasy. ok when do you want the spellup and where in landings

1. Chrono Trigger

FF7 doesn't make the cut because I believe that the game is completely overrated. It is still very, very good.

Thanks to this thread, I started Secret of Mana again. It seems my brain doesn't think I play enough of these games!

Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
Final Fantasy III or VII - I can't decide

1. Super Mario Bros
2. Legend of Zelda
3. Mortal Kombat

I think it's hard to say Mortal Kombat revolutionized anything when SFII predated it and is clearly the true king of fighters.

Completely wrong. Killer Instinct for Arcade is the true king of fighters.
Not KI2, that game sucked. The first KI owns all that came before, and has come since.
Latrinsorm
12-05-2005, 05:18 PM
Killer Instinct is on the level of Clay Fighter. Please.
Killer Instinct was great, because they really made combos mainstream in fighters.
Anyway, Street Fighter II really is the grandfather of all fighting games. Mortal Kombat just made them more bloody.

In no particular order, my top list:
Chrono Trigger
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (quite possibly the best fighting game ever)
SSX Series
NBA Street 2
Final Fantasy 3
Ogre Battle
Ogre Battle was an incredible game, unfortunately, the combat system really should have been like Ogre Battle 64's. It was a much needed improvement and it made the maps drag less.
Unfortunately, Ogre Battle 64 dropped the ball in a number of ways.

Ebondale
12-05-2005, 09:19 PM
Honestly I think that any of you who are saying "Zork" are saying it to sound "old school". Zork really was a shitty game.
Hell, Gemstone is a better game than Zork and it costs forty fucking dollars a month just to be told that you can't get an alteration... again.
The only good thing about Zork is that it, in part, contributed to the popularity of fantasy games and text-based MUDs.
None of you ACTUALLY like Zork. Lets be realistic. :p
Trinitis
12-05-2005, 09:34 PM
I dono..I'm starting to doubt myself. I view myself as a very avid gamer, one who has put way to much life into games. Someone who is LIGHTYEARS ahead of Spun in the gaming world..and I don't know what Zork is.
I think the room is getting dark. Is it cold to anyone else? Mommy? Is that you?!
Edit to add : Seriously..is Zork older then Wizardry? Wizardry pwns! WTF is Zork? :(

Zork is essentially a crappy one-player version of Gemstone with no emotes that came out in 1980.
SpunGirl
12-05-2005, 10:59 PM
The only Zork games I've played are Return to Zork (around '96) and Zork Grand Inquisitor (around 98). I was BORN in 1980, so if I was playing Zork then I'm clearly even more of a genius than I originally thought. I'm not trying to sound "old school," wtf.

What I wouldn't give for a two player version. Even though if both player had maxed out calculators... it wouldn't be that interesting. Calaculate Holy until everyone except the guy with Excaliber was dead.
