I'm starting to think that selling the stuff I don't need is a lot harder if I try to lump them all together, given the small number of responses I got to my request for prices.

I'm also very hesitant to sell things piece by piece, however, because I literally have so much, I'm afraid of the amount of time and effort involved, as well as the possibility of losing stuff. 9 years of being a packrat doesn't help things too much.

So, then, how to go about selling my things so I keep my sanity but I keep people's interest?

Pay someone else to sell your stuff?

Sell by Category. One week, sell weapons, then sell so on, and so forth.

Put your list of stuff on your website with flat prices.

Personally, I start with things that sell the most quickly, no matter the profit I make. That way, I get a good hype going on for myself so that I can face selling the things that take longer and don't sell as easily. Mixing those two up is a good way as well. Start with things that sell quickly, and then do a bit that doesn't, then go back to things that sell quickly, then back to things that don't, etc.

I start off by posting a list of items with flat prices all lumped together. I'll usually keep that going for a week or so with various items. If that doesn't work, I'll start selling things off in sections (like I may do armor one week until it sells, shields the next, clothing the next, etc).

When I'm in Landing, I have a script set up that rattles off the items I have for sale so I can just spout them off every once in a while so people can see them there.

You can try to put things up on your website with flat prices if you don't want to deal with posting on the boards, and then just feed the link to the boards.

I'd say the website listing probably would be the best thing. Since you want to keep people's interest and keep your sanity - if you post your list on your site in sections then have your prices on it, people can browse at their convenience and agree to purchase the things as you have them.

Email auctions are good too if you don't mind the work that goes into them...but websites are usually a lot easier.

And like was previously suggested, you can pay someone to sell your items for you. If you know a particular person who you trust, they can be a valuable tool to sell the items for you without the headaches. Just make sure you take care of whomever that may be if you go this route.

I don't know how you separate your stuff, but if you have "locker characters" full of just a random amount of stuff, why not just keep pulling from one until everything you want to sell from that one is sold, then pull from another, etc. With the "inventory full" you can easily document and keep track of what they all have on their persons.

I think Augie's suggestions are best for merchanting. Utilizing all of her ideas together will gain you the best results. Not to mention the PRS system. When I am wanting to push items, I basically use my web site, gsauctions, crystal amulet, officials, here (PC), my PRS's, and use a script in Wehnimers.

It's been awhile since I have felt the need to push, though I likely should. The niceness of doing all the above is you reach more people faster. Also you can decide when you wish to deal with each one.
