I need a way to keep my notebook charged while in the car. Anyone have any cheap solutions?

Don't use it in the car?

I was hunting around, cheapest thing I found was a converter for about $50.00.

That's the cheapest I found. Blows. But if it keeps me occupied while I'm in the car for 8-10 hours, well, it might be worth it.

This is what I use.

My dell uses the 120 watt model. There's a compatibility chart on the website and their company policy is that if you buy an adapater and it does not have the appropriate tip they'll mail you it for free.

Buy some extra fuses.

I used one similar on my way down to the beach one year (the wife wanted to watch movies on her laptop).

Went through about 2-3 car fuses (for the cig lighter) and 1 converter fuse (luckily they included another).

I probably didn't spend enough to get the right converter, but might not be a bad idea to buy a few just in case.

Those are horrible for laptops.

That converts the DC from your car battery to AC, then the power cable from your laptop converts the power back to DC, which is horrible to do to electronic devices.

I would spend the extra money for the power adapter you can plug directly into the lighter for the sake of your battery and laptop. The ones at Best Buy made by Targus, while not very cheap, come with a variety of end adapters so it will fit a couple hundred models of laptops.

Anyway. my 2 cents. back to work!

The kensington I listed has a cig. lighter adapter as well as a plane power adapter (American Airlines is the only one that offers plugs as far as I know).

They also include 12 different adapter tips in the kit you buy, so if you have more than one laptop then chances are you'll be able to fit that one too. And they include an IPOD tip to recharge your IPOD.

Was actually looking at getting one of those, it says itll power from any power source so does it have wall adapter, cig lighter adapter etc?

Comes with wall, cig, and plane in the kit, along with 12 tips. Check the compatibility chart to make sure you buy the right one for your laptop.

Its lighter and thinner than my factory power cord so I use this one on the road and leave the factory cord at home.

Yea the 120v thing comes with all the connectors for my TR and I was lookin to get one that I could just use at work but figured this would be great since I can use it in the car and whatnot as well and just leave the factory thing plugged in all the time at home.

Many Thanks for the info
