View Full Version : Where to go next...(36)

So I'm starting to outgrow my current hunting area: Shadow Mares/Steeds near the ledge.
I LOVVVVVEEEE mares ::drools::
So far for me its been like, find a kickass spot...hunt there until I cant anymore, move...find a new spot that sucks, move again, maybe level off some crappy area then move again and finally find a KICKASS area with a node nearby, plenty of monsters to kill(no waiting) and something that I can drop in a spell or two.
I prefer magic casting creatures as its just so damn easy to fry with a shot or two of 719.
Heres my current stats at 36 trains...
CS: 204
TD: 222ish
DS in guarded: 330ish
DS in defensive 350ish
Can boost my DS with signs If I need to.
So my reqs for a potential new hunting area in order of importance are...
1. Speed of fry time(I like to fry super quick, as do most I'm sure) In other words I'd prefer an area where i dont have to plunk away with 702.
2. Lots of creatures/little waiting
3. Accessibility/Node nearby
4. Would prefer it to be in the landing as I have alts there I need to help out every now and then but its not absolutely necessary.
5. Low death rates (there cant be something in the area that will kill me before I can run away)
Any ideas/suggestions?
I can last at Mares probably 2 more levels if I have to.
You should consider Varunar as a viable option.

Shan.

Shan.
3. Accessibility/Node nearby
Incant 130, sign of darkness, or simply walk back with a script.
4. Would prefer it to be in the landing as I have alts there I need to help out every now and then but its not absolutely necessary.
When I hunted near the ledge I think it was Spectral Miners (40 gs3), but alot has changed so I'm not too sure now.
5. Low death rates (there cant be something in the area that will kill me before I can run away)
Warriors of Shan will disarm, Rangers will thorn and Clerics will bind. . Not to mention spiders who'll web even me at my current train which is more than twice yours.
Hope this helps man. I'm not too up to date on hunting GS4 at tha train.

Varunar is fun, toward the back. Just keep the warhorses' hooves out of your mouth. It's a big square, easy to find node, nice gen rate.

Where are these shan located?
So I assume...
One or two casts of 719 for Shan Clerics and Rangers...
What to kill the warriors, Implode, or Torment? Sounds like torment might be a bit too dangerous with so many different things running around.
Run from spiders?
I can CE the rangers and Clerics if their spells are a problem.
[Edited on 11-30-2005 by nocturnix]
719 clerics, rangers and wizards.
708 warriors left or right arm then (sadly) plink at them.
Run from or implode spiders.
They're off the forest road in Solhaven.

At 36, Bendiths/Sprites in Ta'Illistim are a great choice.
You can also start at the Bog in Ta'Vaalor around 40 or so.
Both are wonderfuly coded hunting grounds, relativly rich, and great Sorcerer fodder.
They used to drop shitloads of loot.
Compared to 2 years ago, not really much but definately sapphires, some boxes and occasionally some really really crappy garments of clothing I suspect they fashioned out of dead adventurers AFTER they had their blood drained by a spider.

::laugh::
hahaha thats funny.
So completely off topic for this thread...
what the fuck happened to the loot system? Not sure I've ever made more silvers hunting than when I was under train 10 and bringing in all kinds of little boxes(every now and then a nice one), wands, amulets, things like that.
After that the loot sort of stopped coming.
I do remember back in the day areas that gave exp that you could actually make some silver hunting at as well.
They nerfed it down to 0 +.001 or what? lol

Bonespear is next after NightMares. wOoot! One of sorcerer's power hunting paradise and the node is right there too!

That's hopefully a joke.
You're gonna need to go through Shan first. PLUS bonespear is far too hard at your train as a sorc.
:: sobs :: I remember the days I used to sit there with Shalla and not say a word to eachother.
What fun that was.
I went from early 30's to early 40's hunting Varunar. Shan's aren't the only option but they are another good one.

Hmm, I don't think I went through Shans. I did pookas, Then Steeds, Then Nightmares in shadow valley. I honestly did not do varunar. I didn't want to move out of night mares because they were rich but I eventually got over it when I shifted on cruise control in bonespear.
I'm not very social when I'm on power hunt. Hmm come to think of it professionally in RL. I think I'm not either, maybe that's the reason why some women hate my guts. I remember why Shimmerain hated my guts :P
To be on topic. I did pookas, then steeds. Then Nightmares. Alot of people hunt Shans compared to Nightmares in shadow valley, and the area is vast. Including the teasure. I remember hunting fried until I have wracked my last bit of mana using mana disrupt to kill each one. I got really rich there. :)

Kiramon are easy for a sorc, and the ones in Teras and Illistim are both easy and close to a node.
just avoid the defenders
Kiramon are painfully easy. I think the defenders are supposed to be like 48 or so, but they sure don't hit like it.

Just save enough mana to unpoison if you're hunting Kiramon. I used to love the coin from skinning them on Teras.

My sorcerer did rats until like 6, grey orcs to 10, vereri to 20, zombies to 25...forgot how I got to pookas but I loved them till like 37ish, then mares and steeds. Then came the switch to GS4, and I was hunted bendiths/sprites, then trali, and finally at 56, I hunt the black forest.

How you remember everything you hunted amazes me...
I'm only 36 and I cant remember the order and what I hunted.
I know ghost wolves in vaalor rocked for like 5+ levels.
I could hunt with nothing in my hands in offensive and destroy them with 702/705 That was some quick exp.
umm yah then i hunted some other stuff...? Too much marijuanna smoke in the brain.
Last time I hunted stoned I wracked twice instead of incanting 130.
So . . to be on topic, don't hunt shan stoned.

ROFL
I love it when I wrack twice...Ive done it sober before!
Yah i quit smoking for awhile, now I just smoke on occasions...but its so tempting to buy a sack for my own use...
There is something to be said about relaxing after a hard days work, smoking a bowl and playing GS...that is if you can get over the trickiness of wracking.

Hak My personal worst was Mammoth Arachnids, but I attribute that to the way I was hunting them and not being careful when they'd swarm. Nothing since has been remotely difficult for my Sorcerer to hunt. Not yet at least...

Ahh yes, I remember mammoth arachnids...remind me why I ever hunted them?
Spiders + web + more spiders = dead sorcerer.
Havent had any trouble since them either, minus the random deaths and bad luck. Where I hunt now the only way I die is from ewave + massive swarms...or...
the ever-so-much-fun...walking into a room and instantly getting zapped by a cloud and stunned for 10 rounds. Then spamming the se key until another shock blows my head off.

Into a Shan ranger, and a Shan warrior.
Yeah.
If you're still up for Shan, I'll walk you through them sometime.

I'm hunting there now.
The first day = 5-8 deaths. Spend 70% of the day recovering from death sting.
Second day = 4 or so deaths.
Third day = 1 or 2.
It's getting better now that I'm learning to run the fuck away from mammoth arachnids. And Torment warriors and then...run the fuck away.
Already been disarmed twice, thats not fun...especially when my retribution procced 140 and killed me at the same time, actually got my runestaff back with the help of a nice fellow.
In short Shan is do-able at my train 37 now, but you must be VERYYYYYY careful and pay very close attention. 1 second delays could mean a nasty and frustrating death.

At 36 I was on Teras, uphunting with friends in the village -- shoots, lizards, wasps. Never went to Varunar. Spent a brief time in Shan during my 40s -- that was before I was a brawler. Buggers disarm, so don't bring anything nice. Went back to Teras for sand devils and wind wraiths(?) for my 50s. I found the pyros tough. Do not implode the skayls. Ugh. Spent some time after that at Bonespear, tried to survive the Stronghold in my 70s. Not sure if the GS3 to GS4 conversion affected much of the above.

The trick I finally learned for shan was to cast 703 (I had incant 703 on a macro. Talk about a lifesaver!) when a ranger/wizard started to prep a spell. Prevented a lot of deaths that way from being spiked and the rare boil. Being disarmed wasn't that bad because normally my defense was high enough to live through it and I was rarely webbed for some reason. Overall I found shan to be really, really boring to hunt once I learned the quirks of the area. Good luck though.

Yah I already CE the casters, of course!
I think I'm going to try Kiramon on Teras.

Shadow mares, steeds might be a little tough...but you can just run away and kill only mares.
If those are too hard, then Pookas.

Yea, I went from rats to... mummies, to something, to wraiths (real fun), to zombies, to Nedum Vereri (also real fun), to Monastic liches and spectral monks (hunting with maelstrom is boring), to pookas. All easily uphunted and such- all of yer requirements met.
The glacier seems pretty easy to me... the only thing that was hurting me at 33 was the environment, it seemed. I came back with at least a rank 1 on every limb, mostly 2's and 3's. I was a mess.
Anyone know how to rid yourself of getting nailed by the environment there, and likely in other places, too.

Send to a ranger for shimmers (602), this will probably help the most. I believe training in survival and possibly wearing more clothes on your char will also help. I know on the trail to EN, if you're not wearing anything on your feet (boots, shoes, something besides sandals) you'll get poisoned/diseased going through the bogs. I wouldn't bet against the GMs penalizing you with those cold crits for not wearing a greatcloak, or a helmet/hat, something like that

Aye, I'm a 34 sorc as well... seems steeds and mares swarm too much in the small area they inhabit. It wouldn't be a big deal, save for the ewaves and FoF DS pushdown. That kills me more than anything.
Any sorcerers train MoC? How many ranks to nullify the effects of each creature?
Any other hunting options? I've got a CS of 201, and a DS of about 350, 400 something in Defensive. Either that or i'll just try scripting mares and Steeds, somehow.
