So Maxis has released The Sims Complete Collection which has the original game plus all seven expansion packs reasonably priced at about $40.00.
I picked it up over the weekend and just started playing it last night.
The problem is... I suck at it. Bad. Like, really really bad.
My Sim "Jack Owens" has a whole bunch of money and I've upped his Creativity skill to the maximum using a guitar in his house. I want him to become a major rock star.
He has hired a Butler, a Maid, and a Gardener. Its not like he has to do anything for himself. He gets up in the morning. Takes a bath in his expensive bath tub. Uses his cushy expensive toilet. Eats a meal prepared by his Butler.. then proceeds over to his guitar to practice all day long.
Well, this doesn't exactly help his social life. The problem is that if I spend time trying to up his social life his other things go to crap. He'll be depressed because he needs to go to the bathroom, needs a bath, is hungry, isn't having any fun, etc.
If I'm having all these problems with a depressed Sim who doesn't have to go to work and clean his own house and things like that, how do people keep a Sim from offing themselves who have to deal with all that stuff? I can just never get all of his bars into the green...
How do I start to get the Sim famous, too? Should I have him start using the Karaoke thingie down in the Superstar Town?

Social goes up pretty fast if you have him invite people over, meet people at a community lot or any other kind of interaction. Just have him talk to people and his social will go up for a good while, leaving you with time to work on the other skills.
You can also try creating other families in the neighborhood. They'll eventually come and visit from time to time on the fly.
It's really not hard. You can't suck at Sims. If he dies, you make another one.

CT has some good advice. Especially if he's loaded, throw a party. From what I remember you can buy a buffet table and not have to worry about food.
It's all about time management.
Barring that, use a cheat to keep all his levels maxxed.

 guess if you suck at Sims that means you suck at life.

Oh, "Jack" has something like $90,000 right now and I'd love to throw a huge party and hire a Caterer but I don't know where to go through the menu system to puchase a catering table and punch bowl so that the Caterer will actually do their job.
Theres a cheat to keep their mood levels maxed out?

Heh, you can buy a chemical set and have them keep on making potions until it's yellow. That increases all the stats to max. Really hard to get them unhappy at that point.

Well, one thing you can do to make his life a lot easier is get a live-in girlfriend. Its easier to help the sim's social bar when you have someone handy to chat with over dinner/watching TV etc.
Also, he'll enjoy playing for people as a group activity, so dont waste time practicing solo. Invite some people over, play for them and achieve two goals at once.
Same thing with his "fun" meter. Playstation with a friend builds a relationship, social and fun all at once. Unfortunately you cant bathe with other sims (except in the hot tub, which is a very slow hygiene raiser).
That is the central strategy to managing a sim. Wherever you can hit two bars - do it. A comfortable bed fixes the sleep and comfort needs. Thus you dont waste time sitting around to fix it instead. Eating with people picks up social and food. You get the idea.
Im not too sure about the fame stuff - I never bought that expansion.

The buffet table you have to buy. It's usually in the miscellaneous stuff. When the caterer arrives, he'll automatically fill it up and work from there.

A chemical set? What kind of skill does that increase?
Hey, do you know how to get my Sim started on his way to being a mega rockstar? :D

My son likes to take off all the doors and station a man-eating plant at the window. It east the burglers when they come in.. then eats the cops when they chase the burglers.

And if he has that much money, then he should have the best of everything, such as best bed, best tub, best stove and fridge. The better the item, the less time they spend in that task, leaving time for other things.

Well naturally they will need an instrument and max it out, preferably. They will also need an agent, which I believe you can either call for one or from a magazine.. I can't remember right now. Then send them out to the lots and have them perform on the street or in bars. It gets their star level increased.

I don't remember man-eating plants in Sims. Only in Sims 2. They are very different games.

How do you perform on the street? My guy did max out his creativity using the electric guitar in his home, but I didn't think there was some sort of way to take a guitar along with him to the Superstar Town.

Actually, because it's just a matter of having high creativity, just have them go to a superstar lot. In some of the places, there's an open mike, or a drum set, or whatever other instrument. He just needs to go on stage and perform. It will give an option on the mic or instrument to perform. People will eventually show up and either clap and dance along, or boo you. It will tell you how you did once you're done and off the stage.

Wow. The entire set for $40 kind of inspires me to play again. I used to use the cheat to give them like a bajillion dollars, build the coolest house I could imagine, and then I'd get bored. Or I'd kill them off on purpose by making them go swimming, then removing the stepladder from the pool. Sadistic, yes, but fun.
Another thing that was fun to do was have two sims fall in love, then bring in another sim to break up the relationship... then of course, kill one or two of them off. AHAHAHAHAHA.
::goes to target to buy the complete set::

Oh yeah.. it's almost more fun to kill em off. Another trick is to put a fireplace in a room.. then chairs in front of the fireplace. Get your Sim in there, remove the doors and set it on fast forward.

The problem with the potion idea is that the potions that come out are random, so you have to hope you get lucky and make it right away. If not you'll get others that turn you into a zombie, get someone random to fall in love with you instantly (which is kinda funny) and others just as amusing. So if you're willing to make your Sim a test guinea pig, have fun!

Umm, there is a cheat you can do to simply delete the sim, the time goes by and you click on the sim again and he/she will come back fully maxed with green. I think it's ctrl, shift, C or something like that. Then you type in the green box up in the corner 'move objects_on' and then just hit enter. When your sim is in a really good mood then they will be more social, so after you do that you throw a party and invite your friends. Get a mic and you're all set for fame. :)
CrystalTears
11-28-2005, 05:46 PM
How do you click on the Sim if you just deleted them? :?: But even if you did that, you would need to do that ever so often since they would lose green after a while, no?
Seems more of a bandaid if you ask me, and should look for something that will help him get greener faster. Neat idea though. Deleting then bringing back. Deleting them always worries me though cause what if you can't get them back. Sometimes starting over, especially on a Sim you liked is a pain.

By the face tray at the bottom. A little star type thing will appear on it to show the sim has vanished. You click on their face and they come back. They won't lose their green if you let them do what they want. Sometimes just having it on free will helps.

I used to make Sims that looked like people i dont like and put them in a little 6 square room with no doors, a refridgerator and a clown picture and just watch them piss themselves and go crazy and finally cry in the corner. Super fun!

Description:
The Mood-Boosters are new objects that allow you to cheat a little bit with your game, but still with glory... *lol*
You can buy a drink for §250 that will restore all your Sims needs bars to 100 (ie they will be completly green again), or you can buy a drink at §25 that will fill your Sims needs to 10 (a little more than the middle, so your Sims will be just between red and green; bars that are already in green won't be affected by the drink).
They are categorized to appear in Appliance/Other, and in Misc/Appliance on non-residence lots.
These objects can only be used by adults.
They have been specially designed to match MagicLand theme, in Makin'Magic, but no expansion pack is needed to use them. :)

Use the computer, its a great tool. Basically, *if* my sim slept, he would get up, use the bathroom, hit the computer, and when needed hit the espresso machine.
There are also some nicely hacked doors out there. Hate that female sim screwing up your male sims stream? Get a door that allows males only, and visa versa. Also there are doors to keep everyone but your sim out, yet others that allow your sim to walk through and they are nude. Kid only doors.
Just do some searching, all kinds of great stuff!
