View Full Version : 425 vs Redux

Alright, my rogue has an oddball training path. Currently he's in full plate with like 18 spell ranks.

Should I cut back to 414 and 101 and throw the rest into AS/MIU OR should I go for 425? I suppose I don't really need the extra AS, but it'd put my AS at really nifty numbers. Is my redux taking an incredible beating because of these spells?

I was actually considering using post-cap points to work my way up to 120 too.

I have a magical rogue too... Mind posting your level and training so I can see what you're doing?

If I were you, I'd stop at 414/103 then put the rest in phyicals.

Here is mine, thinking about tweaking it when I get to a high enough level to be fully trained in hauberk.

I went more HP rather than AS/MIU because while it was more expensive, my rogue doesn't bother with trinkets. More mana means I can keep my lores up when picking and don't have to watch for my signs.

Up until OTF, torso chain did me well. I was fully trained in hiding though. The chain really didn't cut it behind the barrier where things kept clipping 30-40 HP off a shot so I fixskilled away the hiding to 1x and dragged in some spells and fullplate.

At 92, you can have 4 free spells without redux. With 425, you'd have 21 spells counting against you. It's impossible to have redux with 2x spells. Many 1x characters have exceptional redux. It won't hurt you *that* badly.

Shay had up to 407, level 64, didn't train intensively in physical skills, and still had 50% redux. You should be fine.

Yeah, 425 will hardly do jack to your redux. But why the hell are you in fullplate? You should drop down to hauberk so you can ewave.

Thanks for the spells vs redux advise. Post-cap I'll be runnng my ass to 120 and 425.

When I first hunted the ducts in torso chain, my ass got beat to all hell. This was likely a number of factors including I couldn't isolate single creatures because there were like five groups down there all the time. But I fixskilled to MBP, loved it, then did a point dump into fullplate.

Way down the road I'll probably get more armor ranks and see if I can cast in that.

How's your Physical Fitness? Damage is never much of a problem for me, and I've been wearing double chain, with good redux.

But ewave is sooo useful to me, cause I can take on more than one critter without getting hit once.

Also, once you get more spell ranks, you can hunt with higher DS, which means you'll take even less damage.

MnE hindrance cannot be trained to the minimum. I don't know the formula for exactly how much more you'll get at 300 ranks, but it'll be more than 22%.

MnS can be trained down to 20% failure rate at 290 ranks, but I can't think of any 100s you'd want to cast in combat anyway besides 108.

And a rogue can only get 200 ranks, so it's even worse.

117.

You could probably train MnE to minimum in MBP (not sure, haven't looked at the numbers) which might be a good compromise.

I'd say if your goal is 425/120 then do it. To me the 414 rogues are just plain dumb.

MBP is 210 for each circle.

I got 202 armor ranks (the max for a rogue) and I deal with 24% hindrance, which is acceptable.

I currently know 120 and 402.

Am 2x in CM, Armor, Dodge, and PT. Going to spend the MTs on going all the way to 430 (will take a long time), and the PTs on bringing up shields to 2x.

After I get 430, then it'll be 3x-ing Dodge.

Is that in MBP, Atlanteax?

Yes.

At the last Simucon, when Warden was talking about the three new hunting areas, and the one involving 130-ish critters...

... I asked if they were going to consider raising the lev cap to like 105 or so (which made some sense with the new higher-lev areas)

Was not going to happen.

.

Need to be 104 to be able to get the 210 ranks required for 16% hindrance. But because *each* rank of Armor currently counts towards reducing hindrance, having 202 does enough to reduce it from 32% (what it would had been under the old rules) to 24%.

Failing 1 of every 4 casts is no big deal for a Rogue.

Take off Armor to do defensive spells in town (unnecessary if in Sancted room) and do all the offensive spells, or utility (such as 108-ing hunting partners) with a 76% success rate.

Works for me.

Yeah because they have so much mana to spare.

We also don't have "Whine" as a Guild skill. :smug:

Are you kidding me... rogues were the biggest whiners for years.

You dog looks hungry why don't you feed him your bad tie.

Could just do hauberk, its 130 ranks of armor to get the MnE down to the minium hinderance for it. You shouldn't be getting hit to hard in hauberk either with all your spells up. Or get some crit padded hauberk even.
