TORONTO, Ontario (AP) -- Opposition parties introduced a no-confidence motion on Thursday that is expected to topple Prime Minister Paul Martin's government and force an election campaign during the holidays.

Canada's three opposition party leaders say they will vote Monday to bring down Martin's minority government.

They claim the Liberal Party no longer has the moral authority to lead the nation, referring to a corruption scandal within the Liberal ranks. Martin hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing, but senior officials of his party have.

The title is sensationalistic. It is an old story. The Liberals won the last election with a minority. They don't have enough votes to pass legislation. When they won, the Governor General had to determine whether they could form a functioning Government or not. The Liberals formed an alliance with the NDP (hard core socialists). The NDP made demands as on all new legislation. When the Liberals stop meeting their demands, the NDP threaten to hold a no confidence motion, if it succeeds there will be another election.

The Conservatives held a no confidence in the spring and it failed by one or two votes.

The Liberals in Canada are so corrupt Bush could become a member.

Suddenly the two-party system seems better.

The last time this situation happened was in 1981. Personally I like having more than two parties to choose from. At the Federal level usually the Conservatives or the Liberals win. The United States has more than two parties but only has two major parties, the Reform party never really rose to much since the Ross Perot days.

What I don't agree with in Canada is that we have a separatist party, the Bloc Quebecois. We have that asshole Trudeau to thank for that. Canada was formed in 1867, we have the Confederation of Canada, as a British colony. We functioned fine. In 1981 French Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau formed the Canadian Constitution so we were no longer a British colony. The problem was he couldn't get Quebec to sign it. So since 1981 Quebec has had a legal right to separate from Canada, thus we have a separatist party in Canada. Thanks to the asshole Trudeau.

Not entirely familiar with the intricacies of all of these things but it seems like something similar happened in Germany and now Israel.

And if the Democrats win control of the House or Senate, or both in 2006 you will probably see something similar here in the good old USA. Can anyone say impeachment attempt on Bush?

Is it just me or does that guy in the picture on the news article look EXACTLY like those damn canadians from South Park?

I think it's time we make Canada stop dicking around and forcefully annex them into the US. They'll go along with it if they know whats good for 'em.

Martin is ineffective and lacks leadership as the Prime Minister and I am hoping he is voted out of office in the next election. To his credit as Finance Minister, he created the blueprint on how to take your country out of the red and into the black. He eliminated the deficit and drastically reduced the debt to GDP percentage.

I am not sure if you are as dumb as your posts or you consider them satire.

However to keep you up to speed. The last time the United States invaded above the 49th parallel they were driven back mercilessly. The White House was also burned to the ground.

Of course we produce one of the world's most copied nuclear reactors and the rumour in Canadian intelligence circles is that we have control over American nuclear warheads on Canadian soil.

p.s. Are you Pat Buchanan? because he is the only person I know that was dumb enough to suggest invading Canada.

Some retired hockey players do, like former Montreal Canadiens goalie Ken Dryden.

My vision of Canadian Parliament is every problem is decided on the basis of WWTGODE. What would the Great One do, eh?

Good luck with that anarchy thing though. :)

Thanks but it is just an early election call really, nothing more despite the hype.

I must admit since Bush took office I prefer living in Canada. Maybe when a sane President gets elected I will move south again.

A completely different political landscape from the U.S.

Our Conservatives bear no resemblance to Bush and Co. However the Liberals here will try and to convince the voters that voting for the Conservatives is like voting for Bush. Ironically Bush will be the mud that the Liberals throw.

and yes the Conservatives here are fiscally conservative.
