Well, it has finally happened. California was the last state to finally approve the merger, making SBC no more.

It's all a headache for anyone watching what the company is planning in the days/weeks/months ahead. Such as bringing back the AT&T Wireless name, talked about in the article below. I also read an article briefly yesterday about the Cingular name being dropped. Maybe bringing back AT&T Wireless will allow for a change from Cingular to that name.

AT&T has revamped their logo for the 'monumentous event', found in this link. (http://www.sbc.com/gen/landing-pages?pid=3308)

It's the globe with AT&T in small letters.

So... I'm now technically working for AT&T, not SBC. We merged into their company, so our jobs have a potential to be outsourced due to duplication of duties. People are going to be surplused.

I guess I just wait until the talks start as to who is being surplused, and not worry about it until then. Still, the wait will be horrid.

Customers will eventually see changes, receiving a bill from AT&T instead of SBC (assumption on my part, as I have no idea what the company plans).

I used to work for SNET, which was the first telephone company in the world (AT&T was only a telegraph company and the Bell system didn't exist yet). SBC bought SNET and promised they'd keep the SNET name because of brand recognition, yada yada yada. And then they changed the name to SBC. After the buyout, they fired a whole bunch of managers, offered amazing severence options for upper level directors, and moved most of the departments to Texas, with customer service being moved primarily overseas. "Back in the day" if I called 411 and said something like, "New Haven, there's a shop downtown somewhere, they sell Karmelcorn but I don't know their official name. I just need to know which street it's on" the operator would say "Oh I know the place! It's on Chapel, at the corner of Temple. But park on Temple street, they don't have meters there."

Now if you try that, they say "Sorry, I need the name." and they hang up. And if you're really lucky, they won't have a southern accent when they say it.

Welcome to the resurrection of Ma Bell, only a few decades after the government spent millions breaking it up.

I hate telecom companies, love the fact that they're a tax write off however. Sorry to hear that you're on the fence about your job, NC. My mom went through something similar recently, working for Magellan Health Services, which was bought by Aetna. She managed to keep hers, due to her degrees and work experience, but she was pretty stressed too. Good luck, and I hope you keep your job.

Well i'm glad it looks like they are going to use AT&T as the name at least for some reason.

Just a traditionalist in some ways I guess.
