Gooooooooooooooood thing they tell us about a pay event that happens in december AFTER they tell us about the pay events in january and february.
Wouldn't it make sense to announce the earlier one, I dunno....earlier?

It was a great marketing technique on SIMU's part. Sell tickets to something that the majority has already attended, then turn around and put something out that folks have been wanting back for years.

The last FP was before my time, so I've no clue what to expect. Since I can't access the officials from work, I guess my excitement will remain absent awhile longer.
Someone post the blip from the officials here for me?

Yeah...is it worth 75 dollars? Its just an auction?

If it has stuff the caliber of the original it will definitely be worth it for some of the folks that go. Notice that I said some.

Why some...
I wasn't about for the first either... can you all explain more?
I do plan on getting a ticket depending on the dates but still would like to know more.

Click the link, brotha' cheese. Cool preview, if that's what you want to call it.
Since I've been struggling with my masculinity as of recent, I guess this is a good attempt to shrink away from the inherent floofiness of things such as WaveDancer and kitten alters. Maybe I'll buy a ticket.

I wasn't around for the first one, what was the caliber of stuff released before? Would it be possible to walk out of there with a "diamond crusted coin purse with runes of death and deathstones and a picture of dead guy" from the auction or are the consolation prizes any good?
I have finals right in the middle of this, so I probably won't buy a ticket anyway, but if there's a chance of it being fun and not frustrating, I might go.

I'd be tempted to go just because it's something new and not the same old WD shit.
But of course it's in December, when my hours are being cut and I'm canceling my account. Yay Simu.

I loved the first time around, and even the consulation prizes were good back then. It wasn't anywhere near 75 dollars though last time, from what I remember. I migh actually save my pennies this time, though.

There are token auctions (use your token as your bid, winner is drawn raffle-like from those who bid tokens), as well as premium loyalty auctions and consolation prizes. No need to worry about not having much silver.

Heh, well as much as I'd like to attend, we already blew 160 bucks between two of us on WD tickets. Would have been nice to know this was coming before I entered the raffle for 1st class tickets to the WD. Ah well.. everyone have fun! I hope that some of you whom I really think deserve the great items get them and it doesn't all go to the Tsin's of the game.

It's during our finals week as well, BUT Belle and I will definetly both be there. It sounds really cool, I would still love to have more info regarding the types of the items that came before.
Like since I already own a premie home, and say I won real estate, do I lose or need to forfiet my premie home? Or is it even that quality of item?
I am dreaming and hoping its like the stuff I see Tsin sell, but I also realize SIMU has nerfed items quite a bit, so I am TRYing not to get my hopes up too high.

I'm assuming that the homes/workshops they are talking about are actual houses, similar to the homes in Pinefar and the dormant workshops that have been kicking around like Cerulean's and Aanalar's. Generally have multiple rooms, a locker type container, lock and key, deed, and a node.
Bah, this is gonna be sold out well before standard subscribers are allowed to sign up. That really sucks. Only 89 of 250 slots left and it's not for sale for standard subscribers for 7 days.

Well, let me add my two cents here...
This is one of the BEST marketing schemes out there.
So now, we thought, the WD is the ONLY pay event that's gonna happen so I'll try to get 1st class. You did, bought it, it comes off your Credit card(or how ever you pay) And now the Promise comes, it's BEFORE the WD and you already bought the ticket!
Brilliant!

I believe it was exactly $75. However I do not expect the items to be of the same caliber as the first event. If folks spending hundreds of dollars for the WD cannot get anything near the quality of the first Promise's items, why would Simu release them for $75?

I just checked my event purchases at
https://www.play.net/gs4/quests/list_purchases.asp
to see if a price was listed, but no luck.
I see the the event listed as "The Bazaar 7/17/99" but it cannot be selected.
I do remember thinking back then that I would be getting an artifact-quality item fairly cheap - $75 was nothing compared to the hundreds I had spent monthly playing via Prodigy.
I got very lucky and my token won my call-familiar ring, I did not have the silvers to bid in the auctions.

Unless the quality of items released at this Promise are markedly less than the previous one you should be able to probably recoup at least a decent chunk of your fee with one of the consolation prizes should you not win anything at all.

There are no consolation prizes this run. There are exactly 250 high end items. So yea, you can make yer 75 bucks back, but you only get one item, defeats the purpose of going. Unless you MA it and then sell one item for 150... And looking at the list of 250 I see atleast 4 people who are bringing their second account...

I honestly think that even if I can't participate in the auctions with the Ardwen's and Tsin's (no offense, I'm not upset that you two can shell out so much money at all), if I get just one item that is neat then I'll be satisfied. Not to mention the shops and merchants available.
As far as how much it costs versus Wavedancer tickets, Stunseed and I paid 160.00 for double occupancy tickets 1st class on the WD and that is just 80 dollars per person. The Foehn's tickets are only 5 dollars cheaper per person. So..I don't expect it to be a dud.
Yeah, my character is relatively loaded, but not Ardwen and Tsin loaded. I imagine that anything I would want in the silver auction I couldn't afford. Some people on the officials were talking about how on the last one the got a scripted cloak and were very happy.
If I get stuck with a scripted cloak, I will not be very happy.

Don't really remember others specifically.
I didn't buy a ticket to the last one, but if you were Premium you could pay 100k and go on the ship and get a consolation prize. I got a scripted cloak. (one of the hooded black leather ones that weighs 2lbs and has like 14 or 16 scripts... I can't ever remember them all)

P. S. I also remember that 100k was a FORTUNE to me and it took me forever to decide to go on that ship.

In prime.
Also, I distinctly remember Gorlash saying that this would never happen again...heh...how money changes people's minds.

So did ANY standard members get a ticket?
Thye bombed out all of us none US based players that work normal office hours, all the tickets were sold out before I was home from work on Friday and online. 10 years straight premium loyalty don't account for much with Simu. :moon:
Good luck to all you that managed to get a ticket however. My tip, use the token to bid for most anything that comes up as most folk will. If you save it to bid on a few special things obnly then the chances are you're only likely to walk away with one of the consolation items and not one of the uber special auction items.

It was sold out before most people on the USA west coast got home from work, there was a lot of complaining.
You can live vicariously through me though, I'll send you a log

No, I saw the rate they were going at and had to upgrade to premium because I knew I wanted to go. I think all 250 sold out in about 10-12 hours, pretty nuts.

Actually, that's not true. There are 250 items and 250 tickets, every person is gauranteed one of the 250 unique items and they CAN exchange it for a consolation gift if they are not happy with the item that they get out of the 250 unique ones. So no matter when you choose to use your token, you are still guaranteed one of the 250 items with the option of trading it in.

They are supposed to sell tickets for standard too right? I bought my premie ticket as soon as I read they were open to sell, not sure how they handled it badly? Hell one poster even upgraded to buy a ticket which was good thinking on his part.

Most of the complaints on the official boards seem to be rallying behind a few reasons:
1. No warning ahead of time about the ticket release.
a. West coasters feel they got screwed because of the time zone changes and when they get off work
b. People that don't play GS on a daily basis
2. Not fair to basic subscribers.
a. Never get a chance at auction quality items
b. Don't even get a chance at any tickets
I'm sure Kitrina never realized the darn thing would sell out in a day and didn't anticipate this issue or she would've gone for a higher cost per ticket to drag the sales out.
Jolena

Yah the main thing I see being complained about is that there was no advance warning of ticket sales so that people could either upgrade to Premi to get one, or at least know when to be checking to buy one if they were already Premium, AND that the event is advertised as one for the entire game population and yet due to Premium perks of having advanced access to tickets, the tickets all sold to Premium members before they could release them to Prime.
Brattt8525
11-14-2005, 10:51 AM
So there will be no tickets sold for regular accounts?
Jolena
11-14-2005, 10:58 AM
No, as there are no tickets left. Originally the tickets were released for the entire game, however Premium subscribers have the perk of advance purchase before Prime is allowed to, and all of the tickets sold out. There will be no more runs this year of Foehn's nor any more tickets released.

Ewww well then I can see people being upset over that then. I am willing to bet they will toss out some more tickets though as this really is unfair to those who couldn't buy one because they are standard.
OK but you're missing my point of advice which remains true, I was at the last one. There will not be 250 uber items at the auction, there will be 250 uniquely (and not so uniquely) inspired items that will undoubtedly have had a lot of work put into them. But do not mistakenly think there will be 250 items that you will consider personally to be uber. I am also saying do not put all of your eggs into one basket, if you plan to just bid on a few items, unless you're a really lucky person at auctions, prepare to be disapointed as likely 100 other people will have bid on that special sword etc as well. I'll rephrase, different things will tickle different people but not everyone will be happy with a toy kite, some folk will undoubtedly be walking out of there with a consolation gift. Some folk will also be going along to just bid on anything and everything and hope they get lucky so that they can make a nice in game profit through resale afterwards, I don't begrudge them this just letting you know what you're up against, don't set your heart on anything in particular, the real winners from this auction will be the rich Tsin's of the realm who can afford to acquire a whole new bunch of auction toys after the Foen event itself from those who might not be entirely happy with their prizes afterwards.

I would bet against that happening. Kitrina has already stated they will not be running any more Foehn's Promise events this year and the items have been being designed for a year to make them unique and high quality. In order to release more tickets, they would have to construct more items so that the advertised hype of every person being guaranteed a high quality unique item would hold true (Ie. 250 tickets at this point and 250 unique HQ items). Constructing more items will take a great deal of resources and time and the event is set to run in 3 weeks.

Oh I'm quite aware that my chances of getting THE item that my character(s) would LOVE to have are slim as I'm up against at least half of the ticket holders wanting the same thing, but I am willing to take that chance. As I believe Fallen stated, the Rapture cloaks were released on one run of the Foehn's and the consolation cloaks that were once so coveted (until the scripted cloaks from ebons and WD were released years later) were also consolation gifts on the Foehn's run of the past. Even if I have to trade my item with someone (and there are those already willing to do so in order to attain something they really want), or if I end up with a nifty consolation gift, I have no doubt that it will be profitable for my character, whether through a sale of that item for silvers so I can get something I already wanted before, or because it will enhance my character's RP or mechanics.

I'd put money on them not doing that.
In all likelyhood, GMs will just promise there will be other events in the future and better luck then. Keep in mind, there is a number of PREMIUM subscribers as well as PLAT subscribers that want a Feohn's Promise to attend and can't. And there's only 250 items created for the Promise, trying to create new items so they can add more people would make for a massive can of worms.

Well I do feel badly for those who missed out then, especially seeing as we all know people with multiple accounts took more then one ticket and that just sucks for others regardless of whether they pay for those accounts or not they took a spots from someone else and that is just shitty.
Jolena
11-14-2005, 11:27 AM
See, I disagree. I think that if they pay the extra amount per month to have other accounts, they should be able to purchase an extra ticket for that account as well without being talked down to. I know there have been times I've brought both of my accounts to an event and I don't, nor will I ever, feel bad about doing so as I pay for both accounts and as such should receive the same benefits as two people with one account each.
As to it being unfair, I do feel bad for the Prime members who did not get to have even a chance to purchase a ticket. However, its been said time and time again that being a Premium member means getting advance ticket sales opportunities and this is one of those times where it really bit the ones who aren't Premium in the ass. Would I object to Simu having had more tickets with more items prepared and released 250 to the Premium folks and then say 100 to the Prime folks? Not at all, but that's not how this particular event works and I understand why, due to the limited items and the uniqueness of them. This is not an event that comes around often and Kitrina already stated that there will be other events this coming year that will be more readily available for others to access. Foehn's is just not one of them unfortunately.
Brattt8525
11-14-2005, 11:38 AM
I have also paid for more then one of my accounts to go to something, but the tickets I bought them for were not limited. I may be in the minority here I just think when it was limited to 250 tickets period it really sucks to take more then one :nono:
I am happy I didn't take the time to think about should I should I not go I just saw here the tickets were for sale and went and bought one.

Those lucky enough to get tickets will have a great time.
Of all the events I ever attended (and I attended EVERYTHING until I quit a year ago), this was my absolute favorite. There weren't a billion people around, the ship was nifty, and I adored what I got. It was a custom dress with a script of my own design on it.
It's pretty funny they're running this again, actually. At the time, there was a huge hue and cry about how this event was nothing but $75=buy an item (and it was $75 the first time around, too). Melissa and company swore up, down and sideways that they'd never do it again because of the controversy. I think Jay and I were the only people who posted positive posts about it. We were both begging for it to come back because we had such a great time. Too bad they didn't do it when I was still mainlining GS. Oh, well.

I too went to the first and had a blast ended up with a ring one time and some lame crab in a bowl (if i wanted pet crabs id date landing women) but both times i easily sold the item for profit. Also all the people complaining about ma'ers, get over it. If you pay so much a month per account you have every right to buy a ticket for each account you want MA'ers in general keep gemstone going.
If anyone is curious about what might be available at the Promise you might want to check out the Gemstone Platinum folder, Platinum Auction subfolder. Look for my post from 4-5-2005 at 01:30 PM.
Odds are the items will be copies of those.

There's a topic about a Platinum Auction. Look harder. The item list is a little bit in.
Assuming the tickets are transferable, how much would someone pay for a ticket? I "might" have an extra. And I might be tempted by either in-game silvers or real world cash.
Yes, I know I am a greedy pig for getting more than one ticket. Thanks for the update ahead of time!

I don't know how many of those items will show up in the Promise. I mean, most of those items went into the Platinum auction because they were already released in prime years earlier. If you weed those items out, the rest of them looked kinda, really mediocre.
I'm itching to see Kitrina's new list. Seriously, there has to be some weightless containers, no-nav teleporters, self-mana items, homes, ebows, shadowdeath stuff, etc.
Does anyone really think that if ticket sales were annouced a few days or a week ahead of time that there wouldn't be the same amount of complaints? Here's what I think would have happened if they had something on the GS homepage 5-7 days prior saying that tickets were to go on sale Friday.
People would complain about the time they went on sale, just like they did this time. Due to work, personal, geographical, and other problems, they wouldn't be able to get online in time. The fact is, they sold out in less than 12 hours. That's a small window of time regardless of when they went sale.
People would complain that they didn't have a chance to buy a ticket because it sold out in less than 12 hours. Most things in life are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Why should this be any different? What about this scenario - they sold tickets in 50 ticket increments. A person that was around the first day ticket sales opened, but logged into the play.net website right after the 50th ticket was sold, wasn't able to buy one. This same person is not able be online again for the next 4 days to buy a ticket. Is this more fair than first come, first serve?
People would complain that only 250 tickets were sold. Would it be better to release a thousand or two powerful items like this? Would it be better if these powerful items were common? If they were, would you want to spend $75 on a ticket anyhow? Would you consider this a special event or would it be as exciting as a merchant that's offering alteration services. Those used to be rare. People griped they never got a chance to get something altered. Simutronics went out of its way to change that. Now people gripe that they're sick of alteration merchants. Be careful what you wish for.
People would complain that they don't check the site on a daily or weekly basis. Some will say they never even go on to the GS homepage. Should Simutronics send an email out to all customers announcing every single event?
Standard subscribers would complain that they didn't have a chance to buy a ticket. I've been a Premium subscriber for several years. How often has being a Premium subscriber helped you get a ticket for something that's sold out? I don't know about you, but my answer is...never. If people really wanted to go, it's very easy to upgrade to Premium for one month. Why shouldn't people who pay extra for a more feature filled subscription be able to reap the benefits?
People would complain that paying customers, I repeat paying customers, which pay for more than one account, bought and paid for tickets for each of the accounts they pay for. Did I say they pay for these accounts and the tickets that they bought? If someone is paying for more than one subscription, why shouldn't they reap the benefits? Maybe they should limit the number of lottery tickets people buy to 1 per family, it just wouldn't be fair to the people who choose to buy only 1 ticket.
No matter how it was handled, the people who didn't get a chance to buy a ticket would be bitter about it. Being bitter because you weren't lucky enough to secure a ticket doesn't mean things could have been handled better. Trust me, I'm no Simu fanboi. As a matter of fact, for a business stand point, I think it's a poorly run company. But, I haven't seen or heard one practical idea or solution on how to handle the ticket sales for this event, that would be deemed fair by the masses.

There'd have been some of the current complaints eliminated completely, however, which I do think counts as a fair bit more valid. Staggered releases was another solid idea.
Platnium list as posted by Uninvited on the officials:
Below are the items raffled and won during the recent Platinum run of the Foehn's Promise. Now there are conflicting stories as to whether these might be the same items to appear in the upcoming Prime run but if they are not, at the very least they will give you an approximation of what is considered auction quality these days.
an ancient silver-bladed vultite skinning knife (helps you skin better)Aoeki
a roughly carved ivory bow painted with poison ivy (highest that a mage can enchant)Arundul
a translucent alizarin crystal (will recharge some items not all) Gwalmachei
a Brutality ticket Valexi
some black checkered leathers (The leathers have been heavily blackened, as if exposed over time to a strong heat source. A white checked pattern has been embossed on the front of the leathers, resembling a chess board in its design. Each individual square has been inset with a fiery red rune. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.) (6x double, no apparent padding)Brynah
a silver-edged mithril scimitar (said to aid the intensity of combat, has different ability versus undead)Calor
a rune-engraved silver staff capped with a faceted crystal sphere ("Well, this is an interesting item. We're told it was made by an old wizard back in Ta'Loenthra. It's supposed to transport you somewhere, but we're not sure where.")Thenjhar
an ironwood-shafted silvery vultite jeddart-axe ("Impact Flares, holy, midlevel enchantment.")PASSED
a pair of silver-threaded midnight black suede gloves (adds a bonus to all teef skills)Harnen
a braided troll hair belt (Long strands of wiry, white troll hair have been woven together in an ornate knotted pattern to form a wide belt. A buckle has been crafted from a thin, oval slab of blue riverstone inset with gold filigree in the same knotted pattern. Behind the buckle is a small snake skin pocket.) Taken off the table by the auctioneer as boring
a fearsome black mithril mattock engraved with silvery sigils (high enchant, more damage)Sensati
a long black knife (The blade of the knife is coated with a sticky black film. Edged in deadliest of poisons. Works best for ambushers.)Leid
a light brown interwoven belt ( "It is believed this item holds the power of Phoen himself within its fibers. This particular belt is said to blend the owner into the surroundings. It is further believed that the spell recharges over time." The belt is constructed of interwoven plant fibers. Three large sunstones carved in the symbol of Phoen, the Sun God, are set into the fibers of the belt. Three of the sunstones glow faintly.)Sorak
a chipped piece of grey marble from the chest and places it on the table.(more than it seems, charges by itself, spirit strike)Emilan
a Cholen sheaf (The sheaf is finely crafted with an intricately carved scene of the light god Cholen. In the scene, you see a very special moment in one of Cholen's appearances. "This sheaf was found imbedded in stone near the site of a great battle. A band of dwarves recovered it, finding the magical powers to completely heal one that rubs it or one it is waved at. The powers seemed only to be forthcoming but once a day.")Raxelli
a smooth maoral staff wrapped with leather strips (has a place to insert gems, casts different air spells, one is implosion)Devros
a slender black kakore staff traced with glowing crimson runes (a runestaff and a defender. +10 to defend) Luallarr
engraved battle plate (low enchant, a ton of damage padding)Khajor
a set of triple linked invar hauberk (Lirion says, "About the same as the plate." Crafted from thousands of individual golden invar ringlets, the hauberk is at once both flexible and durable. An image of a hammer and anvil has been worked on the front of the hauberk in small black opals. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph. Exceptionally padded)Eyric
a pale tanik shawm engraved with shimmering golden musical notes ("This unusual shawm is quite rare. Long ago, Loenthran minstrels and balladeers traveled throughout the elven kingdoms, their services as lorekeepers and performers in great demand at both lowly tavern and exalted House Court alike. The Council of Musicians wished a way to provide companionship to their travelling journeymen as they criss-crossed the eastern Elanith from the DragonSpine to the sea and back."
On commision by the Council, a Loenthran, whose name is lost to the mists of time, handcrafted instruments to his patrons' exacting specifications, instilling within each instrument the rare power of summoning. The instrument called for the singer a faithful and boon companion."
Lirion exclaims, "Who will bid on such an exquisite piece of artistry and history? Do not miss your opportunity!")Rodger
a fancy parchment ticket ("This ticket entitles the bearer to one completely unique custom-zested item. The zest will include three separate tricks, each designed by the ticket's bearer. The zest must be pure fluff, however, no vorpal swords of doom, etc. The prize will be redeemed by Jolai, and may only be claimed by [the winner]. As far as what is acceptable, Jolai's word is law.")Shyllia
a gem-encrusted mithglin sai ("Look at the gems on this weapon! You know I've heard a tale regarding this weapon. Seems that the gems are more than decoration and that they actually give it different powers." Odd pieces of various gemstones encrust the pommel of the sai, with an empty gem setting at the base of the pommel.)Saras
a glittering topaz runestone ("This runestone is an artifact of great power, and will bring stealth to the owner." "Seems it casts wall of force, several times a day.")PASSED
a tiny pink silk box ("This small box holds a sweet treasure, something sure to please everyone. Its slight magical ability guarantees to always satisfy at least once a day!" Thick and stiffened shiny pink silk forms the sides of this box, trimmed with thin white velvet braiding along the edges. The top flap sports two sides that tuck in, and a strand of golden spidersilk to wind around a diamond clasp at the front, closing the box to keep its contents fresh. Wedge-shaped cabochons of multicolored topaz and rubies stud the sides of the box in a whimsical design linked with gold chasing.)Dyan
a gilded mithril ribcage (The ribcage is from some undiscernable remains. Each bone has been gilded in pure mithril and additional strips of mithril are overlayed underneath to provided comprehensive coverage of the wearer's torso. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph. self mana undisease low enchant)PASSED
A Brutality ticket Selizabeth
some silver finger cymbals studded with tiny multicolored gems ("This unusual cymbals is quite rare. Long ago, Loenthran minstrels and balladeers traveled throughout the elven kingdoms, their services as lorekeepers and performers in great demand at both lowly tavern and exalted House Court alike. The Council of Musicians wished a way to provide companionship to their travelling journeymen as they criss-crossed the eastern Elanith from the DragonSpine to the sea and back."

a spellbook page (You see a spellbook page with edges that are sharply defined and a dim glow highlights something written upon it. The writing, although faded is just clear enough to make out what it says. You sense that the magic is fully charged. Self-charging Call Wind)PASSED
an invar-tipped thanot walking stick Withdrawn by Auctioneer as too boring
some rigid buckled brigandine (medium enchant, nice crit padding "Dyed a deep blood red with a shiny hard finish, this brigandine armor is notable for the set of steel-buckled straps that run down both sides, adding ornament as well as secure fastening. Each wide buckle is brightly polished and crafted to fit snug against the armor. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.)Valaraukar
a gleaming vultite flamberge (4x with cold flares. The wavy blade of the weapon is polished to a mirror finish and the golden pommel is embedded with a brilliant cut diamond. A wrought rolaren basket covers a leather wrapped hilt and provides excellent protection for the hand.)PASSED
a scorched rolaren falchion (At the base of the hilt of this weapon is a single large bloodstone. Badly flawed, the gem is quite sizeable, and bears irregular gold veins within the stone. The hilt is wrapped with a spiral of textured black leather from the base upward, and leads to the slightly curving blade. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph. 6x fire flares and does something else neat)Windermere
A Brutality ticketYlaris
an ancient grey leather tome emblazoned with a tentacled black onyx star ("Lots of fun to own, but no real magic to 'em."- scripted)Athias (later RETURNED due to mistaken bid)
a slightly flawed crystal ("It appears that it will show you something far away." Scrying crystal)Zelenthinoth
an iron-banded modwir barrel (makes wine)PASSED

a golden-hilted battleworn falchion ("Tis enchanted six times, can be worn on your belt, and will flare with cold." A small, intricate leather strap runs from the handle of the battleworn falchion, designed for hanging from the belt.)PASSED
a basket-hilted broadsword (5x blessable "The likeness of a striking water moccasin has been etched onto the long blade of the basket-hilted broadsword. The basket hilt covers a grip of moccasin hide, molded to fit the hand. A pommel of blue tourmaline wrapped in fine golvern wire perfects the weapon's balance. You also see a small enchanter's mark." Scripted)PASSED
a large tailored cloak (Jolai displays the fine tailored cloak for all to see. Jolai says, "This cloak was crafted by the halfling tailor, Master Wheezer. Each of his special creations are tailor-made from the finest materials and handstitched with loving care."
Jolai cries out, "Just be sure this size fits you, Wheezer said some wizard played around with them so that each is special tailor-made to fit perfectly! This one is sized for giantmen! He also said the magic might have caused a few quirks, but there is nothing to worry about.)PASSED
a puma trap (traps pumas)PASSED
some gleaming vultite plate (The highly polished plate is forged with a sharply ridged midline from neck to waist, adding to its ability to deflect weapon strikes. The gleaming vultite is otherwise unembellished, beautiful in its simplicity, the only decorative touch being a series of notched engravings on the rivets, clearly the armorsmith's mark. 4x heavily damage padded) Oban
a battle-scarred rolaren shield emblazoned with a sinuous red and gold scaled dragon on a field of white ("This here shield appears to be twice the enchant you'd expect. It is as strong as the metal would imply." 8x)Eldawyn
some dark spidersilk robes embroidered at the hem with curling golden dragons (high enchant heavily crit padded)Rumor
a silver serpent-shafted trident (A splendid example of the fine handiwork of the eastern elven nations, this trident has several serpents curving lazily up to the head of the exquisite weapon, with their tongues ending in the sharp points of the highly polished tines. a small leather pouch (Here we have a small pouch. Look ye well, me friends for surely this pouch is the very thing all you clerics, wizards, bards and warriors are slavering to have in your greedy, little clutch...er, in your most estimable possession. I would include sorcerers in that group, however as we all know, that sort sports the entirety of what taste they possess solely in their mouth. And as for rogues, they'll probably just steal one anyway.
Now, where was I? Oh yes! Before you wizardly types start picturing this most desirable of pouches crammed full of 27,549 wands, 159 potions of one type or another, 783 orb-quality gems, various and sundry scrolls, parchments, tomes and twiddle sticks, as well as 48 varieties of tarts and a barrel of two of demon rum, I say "Stop and desist!"
This fine and delicate pouch was NAY made to put up with such a mess of needless detritus, no indeed! This pouch, I'm proud to say, holds LITTLE to NOTHING!
If on the other hand, my friends, you are the type of discerning individual that recognizes the superior qualities of a pouch that doesn't stoop to carrying stuff and nonsense, that looks so...so...that is to say, is obviously of novel construction if not exactly in the most pristine of exterior repair...well! A bunch of items that already exist in plat are on that list though, massive stone mattock, Sorrow, etc.
Also from the officials:
<<Well, if you believe the GMs on the plat boards and Kitrina here, nothing on that list should show up at this auction. - WELCHA
That's not entirely accurate. It's just not exactly the same. We do want to re-release some of the older type items because, well, they're super neat. I just can't compare them, though, because the lists are different in many ways. It's not the exactly the same. I don't want to lead you to believe that it consists entirely of new stuff. That wouldn't be truthful.

As a matter of fact, for a business stand point, I think it's a poorly run company. But, I haven't seen or heard one practical idea or solution on how to handle the ticket sales for this event, that would be deemed fair by the masses.
In response to your comment regarding fairness:
The raffle system is the fairest way in my opinion. SIMU uses it a whole bunch during merchant visits etc.
250 Tickets
50% to Platinum which amounts to 125
40% to Premium which amounts to 100
10% to Standard which equals 25
Send an email to the subscriber that they won the option to purchase a ticket which will expire in 48 hours etc… If no then it goes back into a raffle to be won by another person not already picked. Etc..
And I’d love to get emails from Simu about game news/changes/mechanics/announcements/calendar events etc. I’m still wondering why they don’t do it in the 1st place.
My 2 cents.

Most things in life are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Why should this be any different?Because it could just as easily not be, and more people would be happy. Not all (that would be impossible) but more.
If someone is paying for more than one subscription, why shouldn't they reap the benefits? Most people are bugged by the fact that a person can pay for more than one account, for reasons such as these.

To Tromp: Prime is Standard. Good idea otherwise.

12 hours, whether you work 1 hour a day or not, is a small amount of time in the scheme of things. They sold out in less than 12 hours and people DIDN'T know which day they were going on sale. How quicky do you think they'd have gone if this wasn't a total surprise? I'm betting 1-2 hours. My feeing is that this is a no win situation.

Explain how more people would be happy? I hear people saying constantly (not just on this message - in life) that something could be better, but they never offer a solution. The solution I offered would piss me off more. Selling tickets in smaller batches is still first come, first serve, it's just more extended. And the people that truly were the first, but didn't make the first cut, get screwed.

Just because it bugs people doesn't mean that it's right. It bugs me that it bugs people that a person can pay for more than one account. Who's right?

Again, people say things could be handled better. Tell us how. Educate Simutronics, don't just claim that they handled it wrong. Don't get me wrong, I consider many of the business decisions that they make to be asinine, but this is not one of them.
I'm not trying to be a prick or play devil's advocate, but I'd love to hear some solid solutions to this problem. The GMs were actually soliciting this on the GS forums. Lets educate them.

Don't get me wrong, pay events are absolutely a no win situation and should stop immediately.

Who's right?
My side, duh. :saint:
Tell us how.Don't:
Offer a such a limited amount of tickets to a hugely presitigious event that they sell out before some people have even heard about it.
Definitely don't:
Act surprised when this happens.
Do:
Send out emails, advance warnings, and so on of the date of what I'm about to say. Advance being (let's say) a month.
Do:
Use a non-Simu affiliated (pseudo)random number generator to pick amongst every account in the game.
Do:
Allow each account picked to choose go or no go.
Do:
Continue this until 250 (or however many) spaces are filled.

I didn't say that pay events are a no win situation. I think it's a solid twist to the standard subscription based MMORPG model. Other folks in the MMORPG community do too. Regarding them being a no win situation, people should try to put this in perspective. Would it be better to not have Foehn's just because you can't go? Or is this a good opportunity regardless of whether you're going or not because new and exciting items are being introduced to into the game?

Well that's pretty subjective. You think they SEEM more fair. I don't.

Sure, that's not a hard thing to do.

I don't agree with this one. People cry conspiracy with the in game spinners, can you imagine the uproar this would generate?

<< a thick opal-inset armband (self charging strength several times a day) >>
This is worth $75? With the common availability of white crystals, it makes you wonder.
Unless the item's properties were fully disclosed prior to the sale, I would have guessed it contained Spell Shield (opals), not Strength. I would have been one pissed-off winner.

That is an exact duplicate of one item sold in the 1999 $75 Promise, Celtic bought it off the winner. The 1999 auction also had a "golden domed" version with different unique familiars, which is the item I won. It will be interesting to see how many silvers the ring brings in the Prime auction. Unless 4.5 million is a lot of coins in Plat, someone got a real deal.

I'd love a self charging strength item. White crystals, while abundant, certainly aren't enough to count on. I might get one a week, if that.
Self-reliance is a big deal to me, someone was selling a self mana strength item a while ago for about 50 million and I strongly considered buying it.
As far as the familiar ring, I'm not sure we'll see it in the prime auction, a lot of the items sold in platnium already existed in prime, hence the reason for getting them out.

At the same time, Kitrina said that some of the old favorites would be painted differently and we'd see them again.
I'm wondering just how much of it is really re-painted past items. I think GS has come a long way with adding new and exciting stuff; at least as far as the past few events are concerned. I'd be a little disappointed not to see like some shadowdeath lance or something crazy.
Wish she'd just let the list fly and we could see what we could see.
I was hoping to see some permanent stat enhancers. Only stat enhancer I saw on the list was:
a wide black leather belt studded with wrought iron spikes (enchancive item""Adds to max health, health recovery, stamina, stamina recovery." Saeroc
Since it impacts so many different stats, I have a feeling it's got a limited number of uses. I'd love to see one that impacts 1-2 stats permanently.

Am I the only one who thinks that belt would be kinda neat for an 80's thrash kind of ripoff character?

Almost all the info posted is that given to the bidders just before the sale to decide whether to bid. This one I fortunately have a log on. I was giving a play-by-play to the Wavedancing chat for a bit.
Lirion picks up a thick opal-inset armband from the chest and places it on the table.
Lirion says, "Strength."
Lirion says, "Several times a day."
Looking down further in the log, though, I see something I really need to post.
Lirion picks up a spellbook page from the chest and places it on the table.
Lirion says, "Is Devros's favorite spell."
Lirion says, "Break wind."
Lirion says, "Err, call wind."
Jolai says, "This is next. This one is self-charing break wind."
Jolai taps a large can of beans, which is in his right hand.
A thunderous 'buuuurrnnnnttt!' comes from Jolai!
Jolai blinks.
Jolai says, "Lirion, that was gross. If you're gonna do that, do NOT stand behind me."
Arundul says, "Whole new meaning to stinking elf."
*BANG*! "And the winner of the lot is... Hey, wait a minute, where's the winning bidder?" asks Lirion.
Arundul says, "Everyone was afraid of the side effects."

Thanks Nilandia. :D
11:30 AM CST and it looks like some folks DID take advantage of the refund offer!
8 tickets down and how many to go?
Now we will see if Simu handles the reissue of those tickets in a professional manner by giving notice to everyone when they will go on sale.
