When I was a little girl I was afraid of clowns. Then again I was a strange child and was afraid of Santa Claus too.
Now that I'm a grown-up child, I'm only afraid of the clown in "It" and dolls that come alive. Yes Chucky bugs the snot out of me, but pretty dolls that blink and start walking and talking need to go.

"It" sucked. Clowns don't bother me at all but I know a lot of people that pretty much cry when they see clowns.

I truly don't get the clown phobia thing.
Is it the makeup, big floppy shoes, or what? Are you afraid of mimes too? Are you a little scared when you see a fat woman with too much makeup on get out of a Mini Cooper?
I'm not teasing you (Well, maybe a little in the last sentence...) I honestly don't see what could be scary about a clown.

COULROPHOBIA
An irrational fear of clowns.
What, fear those delightful purveyors of slapstick comedy? One may as well go in terror of Santa Claus (but then a few people do that too, sad cases of Santa Claustrophobia). But clown humour has always embraced cruelty in its teasing and insulting of other clowns and members of the audience. Clowns represent anarchy, the personifications of unreason, and a force of nature out of control. Who knows what really lies behind their unchanging painted faces and outlandish costumes? These are all good enough reasons for even the strongest and most adult of us to feel unease in the presence of a clown. Some children are terrified by them and a surprisingly large proportion of adults confess to finding them creepy and disturbing, so much so that this word for their condition has had to be invented. It’s not old—perhaps from the 1980s—and has been taken from Greek kolon, a limb, which seems strange until you find the related kolobathristes was a stilt-walker. This seems to have been the nearest its coiner could get to a suitable classical allusion, since ancient Greek didn’t have a word for a clown in our modern sense.

Gah! Evil clown!
And I honestly don't know what it is about clowns. When I was younger, I didn't like people in costumes, such as clowns, Santa Claus, people who dressed as characters at Disney. I felt I couldn't trust them because I couldn't see who they really were. It was an untrusting thing. Yes, at a young age I felt that way.
I'm not like that now, but I still don't like clowns that are made to look evil because now I like clowns and anything depicted to make something innocent looking look mean just bothers me. Don't know why.

I used to get freaked out by those little china dolls with pale faces, like if I was sleeping in a room with them I'd have weird thoughts like maybe they are plotting to kill me in my sleep or something..........

I don't see why a clown can impose fear, when you're adult. I don't see why santa claus bring fear too, when you're adult

Oh yeah mimes. I hate them too!
Which brings me to something else that bothers me... those old timey black and white silent movies. For some odd reason I find those highly disturbing.
I also hate those wooden dummies. They scare me silly! Maybe I've watched too many scary movies? And porceline dolls give me the creeps too especially the big ones with real human hair.
Clowns are evil, evil, evil and must die. I cannot see how anyone can like them.
