View Full Version : What do you miss about High School?
I recently got an invitation for my <mumbles something here> High School reunion, and it got me to thinking.
What do you miss (or not miss) about those days?

I don't miss:
Working at DQ
Curfew (which includes sneaking around to have sex when I was a senior)
Retarded teachers
I miss:
My friends (though I still see most of them fairly consistently)
Drumline (yes I was a band dork, but we were good and I enjoyed it so STFU)
Lack of responsibilities compared to now.

Sports, no responsibility, how easy it was to just hang out with friends without wondering if they want your job
Scoring straight A's without having to study my ass off to get them. Like now. Sports and band(trombone).

I miss the friends I had.
I miss swim team.
I miss my evening diving club.
I miss the incredible amount of energy I had.
I miss Sharky, God I loved that mutt.
I miss my lifeguarding job.
Edited to add:
I miss hell out of being fifteen and sixteen! What great years they were!

The only thing I miss is my first love. I still have the mug she made for me in pottery class sitting right here on my desk.

Oooh, ouch Backlash. Almost ten years after we began dating, I miss mine too.

I miss my mum working at my school and using emotional blackmail against me to make the other kids behave.
I miss a DAMN good teacher who's since died but before he did had taught me more than the rest of them.
I miss the gay maths teacher who locked himself in a cupboard becouse we all told him he was going bald!
Friends, girlfiends and teachers .. man there's loads I miss but I'd never go back.
Odd.

Jazz band. Junior year, best rhythm section I've ever heard.
Wrestling on the quad, wrestling on the high jump pad (that happened to have a ladder next to it).
My shadow. It was much better back then.
The feeling of school = community. Public school is so soulless.
Having daily access to a real bathroom.
XC/track, even though I never really cared for the coach or the rest of the team. I just love competition and running.
edit: Fun thing I just thought of: If you multiply the years I've been out of high school by the years Drayal's been out of high school, I bet the total is less than the years Vesi has been out of high school. :saint:

American high school is so, so much different to English ones.
We don't have any of the elitism you guys do. We don't have prom kings and queens, quarterbacks or SAT winners.
I watch TV ( while admitting it's the only place I've seen your schools LOL ) and think GOD, they're creating people who'll eventually explode with 'omg I aren't good enough' suicide gunners.
I imagine going to school where you do is a complete nightmare.

Why you little whippersnapper! <shakes her cane at you>
I also miss having my boyfriend live less than 45 minutes away so I could have sex pretty much whenever I wanted.
And also my AP MEH teacher, she rocked.

I don't miss any of the immaturity, drama or shallowness, but I do miss the lack of responsibility.

I actually do miss the immaturity of high school. It beats all hell out of the immaturity of college/adult life. Once people hit a certain age, they just don't respond to headlocks anymore. :(

now that I think about it, the only thing I miss about HS was was the lack of utter responsibility (yeah, I had a job and homework, but not much else).

I don't.
I miss not paying for gas.
I miss having a fantastically easy job in computers that paid more than enough for my needs.
Those aren't really about high school though.

the after school specails....I mean the fights folks not that save by the bell crap....The lack fear of imprisonment....The ability to manipulate the teachers..I.E guilt them by being one of the few Asian kid...I miss when 100 dollar was alot of money...Discovering that girls as just as horny as I am if not more...Thank you Sandy for showing me that :bye:...Most importantly I miss the people who changed my life by teaching me that a useless piece of paper called a diploma will save my ass and open any doors for me...high school cheer leaders...:shibby:

I went to my 10 year high school reunion, and thought it was a waste of time. Everyone immediately grouped back into their high school clics. Figures that the group I hung out with knew enough not to show.
I miss choir - going around to different functions around town and even the mall to sing and dance in front of groups. Going to Florida to compete against other choirs around the states was awesome. Road trip!
I miss having that social group. Hardly anyone stayed home after graduation, so we're all scattered across the US now. To be honest, I don't even keep up with any high school buddies.
I miss being in the musicals. Dressing up was so much fun, and our gay hair stylist as well as gay choreographer was HOT!
I miss the simplicity of it compared to my life now.
I really miss Darryn, who died in the car accident we were in in Senior year. We didn't get to spend much time together.

hmmm skipping class if the wind was blowing right to go surfing
Drama class and the plays were fun
The feeling of wanting to stick it to the main stream
Going at it in the back of the S10 Blazer with the chickies
Basically not caring and having fun doing it.

HS I don't miss much. The complete lack of responsibility was nice, though it didn't feel like it at the time.
College on the other hand. I miss alot

I miss band and orchestra. There's nothing like group achievement.
I (sort of) miss being able to say, "Hey Dad, I need $50 for...", though I have to admit it means more to pay your own way.
I miss not having to dye my hair or compulsively check for wrinkles.
I miss the boundless optimism of not knowing any better. It seemed like there were so many open doors at 18, and I just didn't realize that every time I picked one, I closed a bunch of others forever.
I don't miss the mood swings and compulsive fad following.
I don't miss the tedium of sitting through a class about something I already knew or understood.
I haven't gone to any of my high school reunions.

Lotta band peeps
I miss sailing for the team...my crew was HAWT, and we always had fun on the road.
Miss not having to pay rent, but still living by myself and making my own hours.
Miss my resilence at that age...get up at 8, go to class, get on the bus, run a 5k, come back, order pie, late night drinking in the dorm, cruise over to the girls dorm, go to bed at 5 am, repeat!
Miss Newport where I went to school, beautiful place.
Miss some of my friends, not all.
Miss the scenery (the kind that walks, talks and sways their hips, god my school had lookers).
Miss the newness (word?) of it. We always went to different restaurants, I was always trying new things, going new places, everything was vibrant and new.
I loved high school...in some ways it was a more exciting time than college, but I think because I went to boarding school.

Am I the only debate nerd? Eesh.
I don't miss HS much, outside of some of my friends that don't live in Houston nowadays. College, OTOH, I miss a lot.

I miss more about college than I miss about HS, honestly. College was like that perfect midpoint between being restrained by rules and having basically no rules, but a lot of responsibility. I lived in the dorm my freshman year and with friends after that and could do whatever I wanted... the only bills I had were 1/2 of my rent (my parents paid for practically everything... car, insurance, 1/2 rent, utilities, AND an allowance as long as I got good grades)... but I made decent money at my job = huge bar budget.
Plus I felt like anything was possible. I still feel that way, but when I get a wild hair about just dropping everything to run off and do whatever I feel like, I can't... I have to plan a little more carefully now. I'm still impulsive. Just not as much so.

Also 17/18 is when I banged a rediculous amount of girls. Only a few from HS, most from a Virginia AOL Chatroom that always had parties. At that time, older women/sluts = teh win.

-Nope, hated every one of them. I'm going to venture that I hated 90% of my highschool, though I did end up going to college instead my sophmore through senior years, so admittedly I could say that I miss the mind-expanding experiences you gain when you're 16 hanging out with 20 year olds. Heh.

Skipping class, partying, drugs, all the fucked up things that happened to us. No responsibility whatsoever.
