Ok, so.. Since we've all been coming out about our addictions lately, I have one. Nicotine.

It's killing me.. I've made somewhat serious attempts to quit over the past 5 years. All numbers of prescriptions, etc. did nothing to help. So I made a plan to quit on my birthday, this year. As of Nov. 4th, I have not been smoking, and I am incredibly serious about it this time.

The urges are killing me though. I woke up at 5am today, so I could get some work done before the rest of the world is up, and.. I had coffee..

that was the worst thing possible, because, for the past 1 1/2 hours, I have been twitching, dying for a smoke.

For those of you who are non-smokers, let me describe the feeling as best as possible.

Not having a cigarette, like, doesn't feel like a big deal at first. One - two days later though, the thought that I should be smoking (after certain things) pops up in my head.

If I have even 1 alcoholic beverage, or 1 cup of coffee a sense of anxiety begins to creep up in me. It's so constricting. It feels like a weight being pushed on your chest. Stomach becomes upset, and I find it hard to focus on anything at all.

Usually, it get's really bad about 3 - 5 days afterwards. I'll get nauseas and dizzy, and the anxiety almost becomes paralyzing..

I know this the last time I am quitting smoking, I am going to make it through this, no giving in to the urges now. Just going to be a lot of willpower and no more "I'll quit tomorrow's".......

I'm back for tonight.. maybe a couple days longer if I can keep the laptop. I'll also make returns on maybe Tuesdays when the WoW server is down for maintenance for the next month.

Currently my substance of choice is WoW.

Yeah, WoW is becoming incredibly habit forming for me. I need to walk away slowly.

Mine has been GS for ever, but thankfully I'm having a dry spell with it. I used to be in the lands as soon as I got home every night from work for hours as well as ALL weekend.

I've logged only a few hours the past few weeks, the majority with Ebons Gate, and even then not much with that than I originally anticipated.

I've been teetering for a while on putting my account on hold, but haven't been able to yet.

I quit smoking for a couple years, then one day I decided I just fucking missed it, and smoked for about 3 months before quitting again.

It's truly a bitch, but every day without it is.. well, it's a day without it. Keep it up.

I suggest trying the drugs they have to helpyou quit. I've had some close friends and some family all try them out with generally good results. Remember to start the drugs a few days before you intend to quit. One of my friends never bothered reading the little pamphlet that comes in the box so he had a real tough time the first week, heh.

My addiction is WoW. My friends are on my case all the time about it. I tell em to fuck off and mind their own business, and that's a sure sign of addiction.

I would recommend using the patch. It helped me NOT have the nicotine cravings, so that I only had to deal with the ritual/habitual stuff. Smoking is a hard habit to break, as it's an addiction on so many levels... mental, emotional, and physical. Congratualate yourself for achieving the extremely difficult, every day.

I quit cigarettes 7 years ago. I use to smoke a pack to pack and 1/2 per day. Yswithe I know what you are going through. I patched it for the first three days only then used will powered. Yeah you will shake, rattle and roll for the first little bit.

Some quick easy suggestions.

1. Don't drink alcohol, coffee for the first while
2. Don't hang out with your smoking friends
3. Don't go to bars that allow smoking
4. Celery, I ate a ton when I quit so I kept a lot of celery around so I didn't become a fat ass.
5. Exercise, great way to get rid of that built up nervous energy.
6. Exercise again, I found a lot of agression came to he surface and exercise helped me deal with it.

Best of luck it is well worth the crap you have to go through to become smoke free.

Must hold onto sanity and let go of addicshun.....

seriously. I told you people, it's a nightmare to quit. Right now, I want to punch everyone I encounter. I know enough to hold back and not do it...

Kittens...

Just yesterday I brought home number 31, and all I can think of is that I couldn't manage to save her littermates.

This was so much easier to control when I worked at the zoo. Working here at the shelter, I feel compelled to save them from the people who are supposed to be rescuing them.

It just kills me. I'll walk past a cage of cute fluffy little kittens, all tumbling around and playing with their toys. Five minutes later I'll re-enter the room to find somebody tossing their dead bodies into a freezer bag because one of them sneezed or had a runny eye or was 1/10 of a pound too small. All problems that a few days of TLC and cheap antibiotics could easily fix.

And don't get me started on the poor adult cats or I'll be ranting all night.

I have an interview for a zoo job in a couple of weeks. I'll probably take it whether I want it or not, just to salvage what little remains of my sanity.

Addiction is the suck.

Best wishes to you on kicking the habit, and congradulations to those of you that did it. Seeing my mother try to quit showed me what a fight it can be. One she sadly lost.

Obsession is what makes me line up the canned goods by contents and size, and turn all the labels to face the same way.

31! Your kidding right? You must have a wonderful smell in the house. That is crazy.

So is smoking cigarettes. Or drinking alcohol. Or doing hard drugs. Or obsessing over the guy/girl who dumped you.

Hmmm, I have issues. I must be human.

I think it is great that you rescue kittens however isn't there a by-law where you live limiting the number of pets you are allowed to have?

Sorry Killer I didn't mean it in a nasty mean way. I'm just in shock is all. To each his/her own I say.

Congrats to you Yswithe. I desperately need to quit, but having a husband that smokes a pack and a half a day doesn't help much. Neither does all the other things going on in my life. I started working part time for a little bit til my husband's boss can hire a new receptionist, so that's helping my daytime smoking..but once I get home, I smoke incessantly. My sister's dr just told her there's an herbal supplement out that won't help curb your cravings, but will make it taste awful everytime you smoke. Provided there's no caffeine in it (I'm allergic), I may give that a try.

7 days and still going strong. I think I am getting "over the hump", as they say. Nicorette is helpful, too.
