View Full Version : Cruise liner fends off pirate attack
(CNN) -- A luxury cruise line will re-evaluate whether to offer future cruises off the coast of Somalia after pirates attempted to attack one of its ships early Saturday.
The modern-day pirates were in two small boats and carrying machine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade when they attempted the attack on Seabourn Cruise Lines' "Spirit" about 5:35 a.m. local time Saturday, Deborah Natansohn, president of the cruise line, told CNNRadio.

Whats next? Armed bandits on horseback attempting to hold up a bullet train?
Here in South Florida if you own a big yacht and cruise the Caribbean pirates are a big concern. My neighbor down the street has a 150 foot yacht which has mounted 50 cal. repeater under the deck that can raise up if they are attacked. Not all big boats are armed like that but most all of their crews are at least armed with rifles if they are attacked.

Holyshit 150foot yacht... that is huuuuuge. I do know people with yachts here in central FL that go on overnights to the yucatan and shit and they all have rifles and shot guns on board. Would be just plain stupid to go unarmed.
OMG..
Having a 150 footer with a mounted .50 cal is HAWT. Who needs to shoot skeet off the bow when you can shoot that.
w00t!

That would be pretty cool. If I had the financing, I would totally set up an "a-team" style yacht like that, just to fuck with the pirates. I couldn't think of a better vacation.
Imagine that conversation,
person 1, "So, I'm going on a 3 month luxury tour of Europe, what are you doing for vacation?"
person2, "I think I'm going to take out my yacht/battlecruiser and go hunting for pirates.".
Seriously, I think we have something here. Have vacations SPECIFICALLY designed to go on civilian/military offensive's against pirates for "Soldier's of Fortune".
How much ass would that kick?
Would be great until the pirates you pissed off rolled up on you at night, anchored, banging the hotties you decided to bring along, and taped about a pound of C4 to your hull.
You'd then be going down not only on your mate, but with your ship as well.

That's why you have to be on guard all the time.
(healthy paranoia never hurts)
Plus, if you obliterate all of them, then you're pretty much ok.
Africa is a wild place you have to see it to understand it. I can't say I am surprised by this story. I think Warriorbird has also been to Africa. I wonder what he/she thinks.
According to native Ugandan friends I have, Somilians were expelled from Uganda for causing trouble. When I discussed with them, the problems Canada has with Somilians gangs, they suggested Canada expel all Somilians which made me laugh to no end.
Of course there is nothing like desperation to create a thief out of the most law abiding person. However I am not saying that this was the motivation in this case.

IIRC, Somalia and Indonesia are really up there in pirate attacks.
They need to start importing ninjas.

Pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel on his crotch.
Bartender says, "Hey, pirate! You have a steering wheel on your crotch!"
Pirate says, "Arrr, and It's drivin' me nuts"

He's got two (over 100 feet, he had three but I think one of those is gone, he's also got a really nice fishing boat also named the gallant lady), one's a 160 footer that displaces 75 tons and the other iis a 167 footer that displaces 40 tons. Nice stuff.
