Ugh, that definitely would *not* be my first choice of ways to go. I am afraid to click that link...

"Hill said he will attempt to transcribe the tape. But there are no plans to make the recording or transcripts public, trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said. "

So you can click on the link, no audio. Dammit

"An air taxi pilot who arrived to pick up the couple contacted the National Park Service and troopers to report a brown bear was apparently sitting on top of human remains in the camp."

There's your mental picture though. :D

Lovely.

What have the recent string of events with wild animals attacking taught us, boys and girls? Wild animals are called "wild" for a reason...and should be treated as such.

You can hear everyone is Chicago say in unison "Da Bears".

I feel bad for them, but at the same time I have to repeat ... It was bound to happen.

Since I live in Alaska, I've heard a lot about this. These guys have been getting too close to bears for years. Guess they found a hungry one.

Edited to add: Here's a link from our local newspaper....

Oh man. I've heard of that guy... My mother saw him in a park in Alaska and she said he was a moron with the bears. But it doesn't seem like that had any bearing on this particular attack... not if it happened at night, in the campsite, all surprise-like. That's really horrible. I wonder how one bear got them both. Morbid curiosity.

"Treadwell was known for approaching, even touching, bears in the wild."

Talk about asking for it.
