Jesus. Just went and filled up my gas tank so I wouldn't have to stop in the morning. I am standing next to the pump filling up when a woman in a red SUV pulls into the adjoining pump and pulls up so close to my bumper I realize I am going to have to back up into a rather busy parking lot to get enough manuevering room to slide by her. Irritating but no big deal. Me and my big mouth though...

So I finish up at my pump, walk around to the drivers door of my vehicle, and say in a conversational tone of voice: "Boy, could you have gotten any closer to my bumper?" Then got into my vehicle.

She went ballistic. I look up and she is striding over to my door with this expression that just shouted DOOM TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS!!1!1 DIE FUCKER!!!

I did what any rational person would...I locked my doors. She started pounding on my window while screaming obscenities at me. I shook my head, did a couple eye rolls, and started to back up. At this point this crazy woman grabs my side mirror like she is going to break it off. I sort of lost it right there and shouted "go ahead! You are going to JAIL!! Do it!!" She stood there for quite a while holding my mirror with one hand, screaming at me and pounding on my window. Some guy at a neighboring pump finally came over and got her to move away enough for me to drive off.

By the way, guess what she was wearing...a USPS uniform. Apparently all those "going postal" jokes have some basis in reality.

Oh and I was just making a quick trip to fill up my tank then going straight home so I didn't have my cell phone. Although I did pretend to take her license plate number down (no pen either). So NOT prepared for emergencies.

Whats really sad is she couldn't have weighed more than 120 pounds soaking wet yet she scared the crap out of me. Well, lesson learned...never ever ever talk to strangers at gas pumps again.

This kinda crap happens all the time. I was listening to a guy the other day tell about something very similar.

He pulled in to fill up his car and had his two daughters in the car. THey're both around 4-8 yrs old.
Anyway, he notices he can't fit because the car in front of
him at the pump ahead isn't really pulled more than halfway
to the pump they're using so in a conversational tone he asks,
"Could you move up a little so I can get in too?"

The guy in the car ahead was a mexican dude with his two buddies. His response was to throw his arms out and say "Nooo, whatchu gonna do about it ese (SP, pronounced "essay").
His friends get out of the car at this time and they all start walking over to the guy's car. :O

So the guy's like screw it. He leaves what could have been a bad situation and chooses to fill up elsewhere.

Today while trying to find a spot in the Trader Joe's parking lot, a lady that had to be at least 90 quite clearly mouthed "fuck you" to me when I waved for her to go ahead of me because I was waiting for a space.

And since we've already established that UPS sucks hardcore, I'm not surprised at the batshit insane one.

Probably drives an SUV (or something larger). I love to watch them line up for fuel, all the big cars, especially the two tanker SUVs, knowing their bill is going to be twice mine and they'll need to fill up more. Couple the fact that the chick knows her car is a roving landmass (and you reminded her) with how much she's taking it in the ass for fuel, you'd be pissy too. Giggle and move on.

I'd love to know how you'd handle it that wouldn't have involved getting arrested.

He did the smart thing by staying in his vehicle. This enraged lady could've lunged at him and started a fight and it would have been ugly and eventually involved law enforcement. The first thing the judge will ask in small claims court is: Why did you get out of your car? At that point, the fault is going to be split.

I drive for UPS and I see so much bull shit driving out there its scary. I have people pulling out right in front of me while I'm doing 35-40 mph 3 or 4 times a day. There's a reason I leave a big space between the car traveling in front of me and my truck. When those things get filled up, they don't stop on a dime. Plus they turn like a big fat pig.

You are being stupid.. what if that small woman had a gun? I think he did the best thing he could without adding fuel to that wacky bitch's fire. He had the smarts to just walk away instead of acting like a "macho man" and confronting the small woman. Imagine if she got in his face, then he pushes her back to prevent getting hit and she cries abuse? Sounds like Daniel is just another jackass who wants to start crap because he has nothing better to do.

The closest experience I have to something like that is right before Katrina when the pumps were busy, I decided to fill up while the gas was relatively cheap. I drive a minute or so down to the gas station on the corner and all the pumps are full. I sit behind someone and they finish up, so I start going over towards the pump.

Then this fat guy on a motorcycle with a fat girlfriend behind him rolled over and said, "Thanks, I was going to fill up there."

I said, "Sorry. Me too."

He drove away. My vehicle's bigger, I have more rights than you do.
