View Full Version : New Cell Phones
Alright so I'm looking to get a new cell phone on the verizon network. I was wondering what people might suggest now a days. It's gonna be an non upgrade so I'm paying retail for the phone so I'm looking for something that the cost is worth the style/use I'd get from the phone. I was looking at the Motorola E815 and havn't heard anything bad about it, anyone else have it? comment on it? anyone suggest any alternatives? Verizon seems to really be pushing LG but I'm not a huge fan of what they're offering, right now I have the LG VX6100 which breaks every chance it gets and the LG VX8100 which seems to be what they are really pushing doesn't really appeal to me.
But anyway I was curious what new cell phones people had and what they like about them, or what they dislike.

I have no idea what service thingie I have.
The Samsung SGH-X497 GRPS Tri Band is very reliable and very cool-looking. It's also got like a time/date display on the front, which is nice.

Verizons offering the razr this winter. I just don't feel like waiting for it. And I hear shitty things about it.

You don't find it bulky with those 2 extra sized speakers?

Former Cell phone guy says:
Mot E815. I have an VX8000, its a bulky POS. So is the VX8100.
The voice recognition with the Motorola is better, so is reception. Feature for feature, the Motorola kicks the LGs ass. That doesn't make the LG bad, just compared to the E815, E815 for the win.
There is nothing great about VCast. If you can find a used or cheap V710, get it. If you need to use a data cable to get the speed of EVDO, then get a Vcast phone. Otherwise, pee on Vcast.

I just recently got the e815. I absolutely love it. Only complaints are the rings still aren't incredibly loud when it's in your pockets, and very few generic ringtones.

Cell phones are evil. I was tempted to smack the guy behind me in line at Boston Market tonight. He was around 10 inches taller than me, tilting his head down to talk into his cell, standing less than 6 inches from my head, so his voice kept directing RIGHT into my ear. Every time I would shift from one side to the other, he'd shift right along with me. And he was talking loud enough for the people at the cash register to turn their heads ALL the way to the back of the line where we were standing.
I asked our store manager at work if we could at -least- have a "no 2-way" sign outside the doors. I mean, it's one thing to have to hear half a conversation at a slightly elevated talking volume. It's another thing to have to endure those hideous BLOOPS on the 2-ways, plus the incoming voice being twice the volume as the guy talking into it at the store.
Not only that but they tell ME to hold on when it's their turn in line, so they can continue their conversation. Hey guess what, pal. I'm paid by the hour. I don't give a shit if you want to hold up the line until the rest of my shift. But the 10 people behind you might have a few words to say about it. So - tell your buddy on the phone to hold, and order your damned meal and get the hell out of the store so you can't piss off the rest of my customers.
EDITED TO ADD: I don't actually tell cell users the above. I WANT to, but I don't. But I don't extend to them anything over or above the minimum requirements of my job. My other customers have earned the compliment on their necktie, or their "I'm SO glad to see you again!" or their "Got the whole family with you today? God bless you, and the coffee's on me." The guy with the cell who tells me to hold, gets the "Hi-Can-I-Help-You? With cheese? $4.79, here's your change, thank-you-have-a-good-day." and a fake smile and nothing else from me.
Cell phones are evil, and cell users are rude. I've never met a polite one, and that includes my sister who I love more than anyone else in the world. But when she gets that damned phone up to her ear, forget it. I leave her company and tell her she can catch up with me when she shuts her phone OFF.

There you have it. If you work in fast food, cell phones are evil.

I'm not with Verizon so I don't know about their phones. Sprint has some LG model phones that they've been pushing but the store tech warned me away from LG phones. They also don't make very good appliances either so I'd stay away from them completely.
My phone is a Samsung something or other from Sprint and it seems to be doing just fine. It's the new one that they're pushing.

Razrs suck. I've known a ton of people that had them, they all agreed.

Why? I just like the styling. Beyond that, if their functionality is non-existant, than I understand.

Purely anecdotal, one of the billing people for my fathers office has a Razr and has nothing but nice things to say about it.
