View Full Version : Vegascon: Inferno! Signups now open on the GS4 website!

Hey everyone,

I know it's a little late this year, but Vegascon signups are NOW OPEN!!! Just three and a half short weeks ago, Lissa approached me about possibly handling the organization and running of Vegascon in 2006. After extracting promises from Lisa Ann and a few others to help me, I said yes. Lissa passed down the Sacred Texts of Vegascon Organizing and I got to work.

Vegascon will take place this year at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, same as the last two years. The big changes this year come in the form of the Seven Deadly Pubs pub-crawl, and the Heaven and Hell party. Yes, there will still be jello shots. Also included in the con fee is the traditional mix of alcohol, the pizza party on Saturday, and a "light" (sandwiches etc) lunch on Friday afternoon.

Also, when you sign up, you now have the option of paying for the Welcome Dinner and Farewell Brunch along with your con fee, relieving you of the responsibility of handing off additional cash when you arrive to collect your badge. If you're not sure you'll make it on Thursday night, don't worry - you can always sign up for the Welcome Dinner later on.

Because of the late start for signups this year, I'm not cutting off registration until January 15th - you've got plenty of time! After January 15th, the "super" ticket will not longer be available and the regular registration price will double. Accomodations have been worked out at the New Frontier and rates are as follows: $75 Wednesday and Thursday night, $115 Friday and Saturday, and $75 on Sunday. These are for the "regular" rooms, an extra charge will apply if you want to reserve an Atrium Suite. Make your reservations by calling 1-800-634-6966, and make sure to tell them you're with the "GemStone Vegascon" group!

Any questions, feel free to email me - KMURRAY@play.net. AIM Jojobabee.

Yay! It'll be fun to meet the player behind Naessi's least-favorite Dhe'nari elf.

Also, I know the Frontier gives a 10% discount off their regular room rate to people who have a military ID. Give them yours at check-in and see if they'll knock an extra 10% of the discounted convention rate - it's worth a try.

What are the dates?

I can't believe I'm so retarded that I didn't put the dates in the post. Feb 16-19th. Lots of people will be early Wednesday arrivals, but the "official" events don't start until the 16th.

It'll be our two year Anniversary so I'm trying to plan something special for my babe and I. Vegas is definitely a possibility as we didn't get to go last year and we had a blast the year before. Got to meet a hottie I roleplayed with in game and her husband. Good times.

So, in the mean time the decision is currently pending...

To appease a request for details, here's a TENTATIVE schedule of events:

Wednesday Feb 15th:
Hospitality suite will open around 3pm for early arrivals.
Dinner at Hofbrauhaus at 7:00pm for early arrivals.
Outing to see Tony Award Winner Avenue Q at the Wynn at 10:30pm. Let me know if you want to go, I'll have to book the tickets in December.

Thursday Feb 16th:
Suites will be open early for mingling and signing in.
Welcome dinner at Bahama Breeze 6pm (if you don't sign up for the big ticket and decide you want to go, you'll have to let me know. I'll post a drop - dead date later).
Seven Deadly Pubs Pub Crawl! We'll leave directly from Bahama Breeze. For people not wanting to go on the pub crawl, the suites will be open and available.

Friday Feb 17th:
Suites open.
"Lite" lunch in Gilley's with Raffle and GM Presentation (some ideas, but as yet undecided) at 1:00pm.
Heaven and Hell party! This is a costume party! Come as a devil, an angel, or maybe your favorite saint or sinner! Begins at 8:00pm.

Saturday Feb 18th:
Suites open.
Meet in the conference room at 2:00pm for an event that's still in the works.
Pizza Party for dinner. If we can get karaoke (I'd like to do it since it went well last year), then we'll do the Pizza Party combined with karaoke.

Sunday Feb 19th:
Farewell Brunch Buffett.

As I said, this is tentative. Any and all suggestions are of course welcome.

LOL. We don't have the resources to provide a Simucon-style computer lab, or I'd have to charge $250 a ticket. Zing!

But lots of people bring their laptops.

Better plan: Get a little tipsy and get into the spirit. I'd love to be able to say, "Evarin sang 'every rose has its thorn' at Vegascon!"

I've seen it twice now. It's freaking awesome, and I don't even like musicals. Probably the most geniune laughs from a show I've had in a long time. Hilarious, irreverent, and relevant in one way or another to probably 99% of the people in the audience.

Plus tickets are only $88. Broadway for $88!

I don't know why they would. I went to my first GS get together this past weekend and not once did I have the slightest urge to even go near a computer. I was far to busy getting drunk and hanging out to want to sit in front of a computer.

SpunGirl
10-11-2005, 05:18 PM
There's always a computer lab/room at Simucon, and there are always people there. I used it once my first year to send a drunk email to someone (and I think I made a drunk post here) and once this year to mapquest something.

People bring their laptops .... like.... I don't know, one year Stealth was showing us some shit on his laptop at Vegascon. But I'm pretty sure Evarin was kidding. At least half.

First, the bad news.

I got word this week from the reservations department that Avenue Q is currently dark on Wednesdays, and they don't know how long that will be for before another schedule change. Until I hear new stuff, the Wednesday night plans for that are off, but the dinner at Hofbrauhaus and hanging out is still on!

Second, the good news!

While planning for Vegascon I discovered that I suck at making websites. Luckily, I am adept and bribery and blackmail, which has enabled me to utilize the services of someone that doesn't suck at websites. I'm sure you can guess that means that the official Vegascon website is now up!

www.vegascon06.com is where you can find all kinds of information and smart-ass remarks from Tierus. If you like it, I'll gladly hog all the credit for recruiting him, if you don't, blame him. Seriously, much <3 to Chris for helping me out on that end of things.

Less than 20 days left to sign up at the pre-registration price. Crossposted from the officials:

Glad to see that we got two more signups yesterday. Hopefully more as the Holidays wind down! I've had a lot of questions and there seems to be a bit of confusion over the two separate ticket classes, I apologize if I didn't explain them adequately enough in my first Vegascon post.

The registration fee over the past years (that I've been aware of) has been as low as $30 and as high as $50, depending on what the hotel is giving us with regards to comped suites. This year registration is $35, $5 more expensive than last year. The extra $1 is Simu's buck that they take for running the automated registration for us.

In past years, if you wanted to attend the two meals that are part of the `con (but at an additional cost to the attendee), you would pay for them when you arrived to collect your badge. Last year I believe the total for both meals was $43, $28 for the Welcome Dinner at Buca di Bepo's and $15 for the Farewell Brunch at Treasure Island.

This year, the Welcome Dinner at Bahama Breeze is $30 and the Farewell Brunch at Treasure Island is $15. That's an extra $45 on top of the registration price to attend those two meals with the group. The other events, like the Heaven and Hell party and the Seven Deadly Pubs Pub-Crawl are included with the registration price. In fact, because of the deal I've struck with Timber's Bar and Grill (a local chain), the Pub Crawl isn't costing us anything as a group. You'll only pay out of pocket for what you drink. In exchange for a bunch of lunatics hitting seven of their pubs, they're paying for the bus to shuttle us around Vegas.

If you sign up for the smaller ticket now and then decide later on you want to go to one or both of the meals, you are of course free to upgrade your ticket (Shonison recently did this). If it?s too late to upgrade, you can of course give me the extra money for the meals when you come to collect your badge. There WILL be a cutoff day/time to let me know if you are attending the group meals, and I'll post those with plenty of notice.

Thanks to everyone who has IM'd/called me with reassurances not to wig. PLEASE feel free to IM me or email me if you have any questions at all.

A Message from House Me, crossposted from the officials.

Here's some advice, to those of you thinking that you'll pay at the door, or that it'll save you money. Pay now. Make it easy on Naessi, and she'll make it easy on you. I waited until the door to pay Lissa, and I learned some lessons.

Thus, I give you these reasons why you should pay now.

A) It sucks to have to pay a harried hostess who will stare frozen daggers into the very depths of your bowels until ice-water begins seeping down your leg.

B) Fun events are planned, and members of House Me will send flying monkeys to violate you with ham if you don't PAY UP.

C) Not kidding. Ham.

D) The very real threat of Feline AIDS.

E) Naessi's player works at the Wynn Las Vegas. The Wynn Las Vegas is owned by hit men. Naessi's player is a lovely woman, and hit men will do anything for her. Do the math.

F) Members of House Me who do not pay will be reduced in rank to "Snow Elf Droppings." That's lower than "House Fluid Receptacle."

G) The power of LHOD compels you.

H) Think of the Seven Deadly Pubs (no "e") Crawl, Dinner, Breakfast, and karaoke.

I) You play GemStone. It's not like you have friends to spend money on, and you've probably been on at least 73 combined runs of the Wavedancer among your accounts.

J) We need your support in order to ensure that VegasCon will be successful this year. The more Naessi's player has to work with in advance, the better she can plan things and the better the experience will be for everyone involved.

Please, think of the Domo-kuns.
