I'm getting "Unable to connect to Simutronics server!"

Xcalibur
10-06-2003, 04:35 PM
Was just too slow for me...

They aren't able to see those problem in advance? or at least warn us it could happen?

Stunseed

Yep, I'm giving up and taking a nap. Gotta be up for the event later this evening.

Well, back in my day...

Game crashes are nothing anymore. A few hours down every week or two is no big deal, especially considering the huge project they're trying to roll out.

Stupid question........event? What event?

I had a Monday IG today........WAY more deaths than I care to admit. When last we left poor character, it was looking like the next death was inevitable as well, thanks to the speedy server responses while hunting.

Typed in three commands. took almost 2 minutes for them to go through. I'm still in though ::raise fist::

Don't tell them about the event. They'll want to come.

Is "festival of sorrow" an oxymoron?

Or is it just me?

-grays/d

Drew2
10-06-2003, 04:58 PM
It's just you. An oxymoron has to have the words together. Like a Sorrow Festival.

Halfsilver
10-06-2003, 05:00 PM
Ohh...ok.

-grays/d :?: (still confused on how there can be festivities of sorrow.)

Drew2
10-06-2003, 05:00 PM
Furthermore... a festival isn't necessarily happy

fes*ti*val n 1 : a time of celebration marked by special observances; esp : an occasion marked with religious ceremonies 2 : a periodic season or program of cultural events or entertainment <a dance ~>

cel*e*brate vb -brat*ed, -brat*ing 1 : to perform (as a sacrament) with appropriate rites 2 : to honor (as a holiday) by solemn ceremonies or by refraining from ordinary business 3 : to observe a notable occasion with festivities

Edit: I like being right, ok.

Announcement: OK...going to try to explain this in a non-geeky fashion. Wish me luck! When we changed ISPs, the IP addresses for our website and games and stuff changed. We update that information to send out to other areas every 5 minutes, but some ISPs don't update their info as frequently (some do it once per hour, some once per day). So...until the entire world recalibrates their DNS Lookup Tables (some computery-numbery-addressy thingermajig), some folks may not be able to log in to our games or website. Of course, telling you this is silly, since you're already here, but I thought I would share it anyway. Thanks for listening. I feel a lot better now.

Announcement: In reponse to reports: I = Melissa Meyer, Producer

This is cute.

If I go to http://www.gemstone3.net/ then I can't access the site.

If I go to http://www.play.net/gs3/ then I can.

Aren't ya glad they switched ISPs?

Artha
10-07-2003, 05:44 PM
That's not their fault, its your ISPs fault.

It also seems faster than before, which is a plus.

I'm glad I switched from AOL to RR. AOL crashed everyday about 15+ times a day. RR has went down three times since I had it. Two of those being under 5 minute periods.

Edited to add: The GM's still blame my ISP though.

(it serves to get people's aim!)

I've been asked to pass along that Simutronics has "lost their connection to the world". All games & websites are down, ETA unknown. Pass it on, please.

uh huh. It's not their ISP that's messed up. It is everyone elses ISP's that suddenly became completely unable to access Gem even though they could access every other web site in the world. I finally see the light.

How many times did every other ISP in the world but Gem's simulanteouly become unable to connect to Gem in the last two days?

Edit:
And last night's Festival of Sorry had to be postponed but their ISP is great and everyone elses sucks. Yep! Absolutely!

My job put up a firewall a month or so ago so I have to set up a private network from my work PC to my home PC and then play from work using the internet connection at my home.

Sometimes these boards are just not enough.
