Apparently this area was released without major incidents or announcements.

Other than the logs in the Death's thread, I have seen nothing of the place. Anyone care to list the different creatures, or interesting features of the location?

Sure, I'm heading there now to die actually.

Actually there was a whole invasion/RP thing going on in the Stronghold for the last few days Fallen. It just wasn't widely publicized.

Fallen

Grrr.

Care to sum it up, Jolena? I really need to catch up on my Official Boards reading. I've been skipping over the Quest, Sagas, and Events folder of late.

Is it in the stronghold?

What age critters and how do you get in? Now I may just have to leave Teras and check it out.

Copied from the officials:

Illoke Jarls, Greater Earth Elementals, Illoke Elders, and Greater Kyrnches. I think I also saw a normal Earth Elemental, but it could have been bad memory.

Illoke Jarls, somewhere around 85-90th. Roughly 400 AS, looks to be armed with an Illoke OHB and a shield. Multi-strikes four times. They also cast a version of Empathic Dispel that targets elemental spells.

Illoke Elders, also somewhere around 85-90th. Roughly 380 AS. I don't think any got a chance to attack me except with melee, so no comments on spells.

Greater Earth Elementals, somewhere between 85-90th. Roughly 400 AS, with a stomp attack (And most likely some others). Can't be stunned. Lots and lots of bleedin' health. Looks like they have a chance to give multiple gems akin to Kiramon.

Greater Kyrnches, somewhere between 80th-90th. No comments on AS. All the old Kyrnch maneuvres and skills. (Boulder roll, boulder form, etc). Make normal Kyrnches look delicate with health/non-crittability.

Asha

Well, instant stun when you arrive . . leeches all your mana, this is going to be fun . .

Gan
09-30-2005, 11:37 AM
Looks like fun. I might have to give it a spin next trip to the landing.

Asha
09-30-2005, 11:40 AM
To make it simple . . it's exactly like Stronghold but much harder.

Critter TD and CS is around 360 - 380 instead of 300.
And after the initial mana leech and stun, it's really tough to stay alive.
Watch for them falling on you.
Heh, the bane of Stronghold hunters. It's a challenge.

... and hits for 166 points of damage!
Blow to leg severs the Achilles tendon along with the rest of the leg!
The Illoke elder rumbles in agony as he teeters for a moment, then falls directly at you!
In a vain attempt, you leap to dodge the massive falling creature! The elder strikes you squarely, crushing you beneath him and the ground!

... 65 points of damage!
Massive blow punches a hole through what used to be your chest!
You are stunned for 10 rounds!
Roundtime: 27 sec.
The Illoke elder grumbles in pain one last time before lying still.
An Illoke elder glances around, looking a bit less confident.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around an Illoke elder.
A luminescent aura fades from around an Illoke elder.

Thanks for the help Axhinde.

Here is some random crap I pulled from the thread.

(All numbers Approx)

A greater earth elemental: Stomps

Swing AS: 440
Cast Minor Elemental Wave (Maneuver?)
Has a Mass damage Maneuver attack

An Illoke jarl: Stomps

Hurl(bolt) AS: 403
Swing AS: 378

An Illoke elder: Swings a granite sledge

Hurl (Bolt): 400

Axhinde

A brief overview of some of the attacks and critters, room descriptions, and so forth.

The earth elementals mstrike up to 4 times, not the Jarls, and have earth flares to their attacks. They also drop 2 gems at once.

A greater earth elemental pounds at you with its heavy earthen fists!
AS: +401 vs DS: +578 with AvD: +42 + d100 roll: +26 = -109
A clean miss.

AS: +401 vs DS: +578 with AvD: +42 + d100 roll: +77 = -58
A clean miss.

Illoke jarls are heavily paladin based. But have no empathic dispell.

An Illoke jarl summons the wrath of his god while pointing at Shimmerain!
An Illoke jarl's eyes glow with silvery grey light, and a pillar of argentine radiance manifests around Shimmerain.
CS: +326 - TD: +363 + CvA: +12 + d100: +20 - -5 == 0
Warded off!
With a faint flicker, the grey luminescence fades away.

An Illoke jarl swings a slate grey stone hammer at you!
AS: +513 vs DS: +546 with AvD: +27 + d100 roll: +90 = +84
A clean miss.
The guiding force leaves an Illoke jarl.

An Illoke jarl summons the wrath of his god while pointing at you!
An Illoke jarl becomes enshrouded in a swirling vortex of energy that quickly expands outward from him, forming an ethereal sphere!
A blast of multihued plasma flares out from the center of the ethereal sphere, striking you!
CS: +375 - TD: +408 + CvA: +12 + d100: +54 - -5 == +38
Warded off!

Elders can boil, so they should be taken out speedily. These are the bitches with the dispell. Poor Shimmerain tasted it as soon as we got in.

An Illoke elder summons the wrath of his god as he gestures at you!
The ground beneath your feet begins to boil violently!
Fiery debris explodes from the ground!
... 25 points of damage!
Strong blow to your left leg breaks it!
You are knocked to the ground!
You are stunned for 5 rounds!
... 10 points of damage!
Burst of flames to right eye bakes eyelid.
The ground then quickly cools.

An Illoke elder reaches down and grabs a large rock, hefting the rock in his massive fist.
An Illoke elder throws a large rock at Shimmerain!
AS: +423 vs DS: +260 with AvD: +29 + d100 roll: +46 = +238
... and hits for 56 points of damage!
Shield arm mangled horribly.

From what I have seen, all the critters have been able to do this:

An Illoke jarl slaps the ground spraying rocks and dirt everywhere!

You are struck by a large rock!

... 15 points of damage!
Nasty blow to your right arm!

They like to repeat themselves by doing it over and over. Not fun.

The rooms are rather plain looking to me. Not rift quality, but then again I really didn't stop and admire the view.

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
The walls of the cavern glitter in the dim light from the many veins of metallic ores embedded within clear channels of calcite. Several ruts have been ground into the dirt, forming patterns that are almost artistic in their nature.

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
Erosion and time have formed a tall earthen cliff, the lake below still visible from this vantage. Several crushed pieces of stone lie scattered about the ground, most no bigger than a pebble. You also see a wide ledge.

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
The thin path continues along the underground stream, the path treacherous and twisted as it skirts a forest of stalactites. Below, in the thin cut, faint illumination creates odd reflections that dance upon the surface of the water. Muffled quakes shatter the silence at random intervals and send up clouds of dust, but there is no trace of their source.

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
Unlike many of the earthen tunnels near this cavern that appear to be natural in origin, there is clear evidence that this well hidden area is man-made. A pile of perfectly square stones has been neatly stacked along one wall, each of them placed with complete precision.

You get the idea. The other critters I dont have information on due to them being entirely too easy.

Edit: I know this is very brief, but I really don't want to look through the log of this right now. Maybe later.

secrets or puzzles to get in?

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 01:05 PM
Puzzles. There are two solutions, one leaves you kneeling, stunned, and drained of all mana an stamina. The other one doesn't.

Makkah
09-30-2005, 01:25 PM
Heh. I think I was actually the first to get that puzzle. Shit was good times. I just kinda tried shit till I got in, then got a couple RPAs. The puzzle is kinda random I think. It involves lining up wedges and getting them all glowing. One result sends you outside to the Eastern Peaks area while the other two, as Axhinde mentioned, puts you in the Bowels (one sucks mana, stuns, etc)

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 01:37 PM
I didnt know about the third one, Makkah. Did you ever find an exit? I died trying to find a way out.....again.

Herachio says, "Dang."

BTW, the rest of you... we figured out a no mana loss, no stun way to get in...

Makkah
09-30-2005, 03:04 PM
Whew... talk about shitty new spell:

An Illoke elder summons the wrath of his god as he gestures at you!
Your connection to the elemental realm falters!
The mirror images surrounding you undulate and fade away.
You no longer feel a sense of protection.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves you.
The bright luminescence fades from around you.
You feel less confident than before.
Your spirits are no longer lifted by stories of Kai's Triumphs.

Like 1140 I assume, but elemental.

Doughboy
09-30-2005, 03:06 PM
oh how effin nice is that... as if I didnt hate empathic dispel already

Fallen
09-30-2005, 03:07 PM
If wizards get that, they will be able to do some serious damage. Mass Elemental dispel, then bolt all to hell. Their target will be stunned before they know what happened.

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 03:26 PM
Hmmm.....540 anyone?

Makkah
09-30-2005, 03:28 PM
I pray to got it isn't 540. Talk about uncreative as piss.

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 03:32 PM
Uncreative yes, but a wizard with an elemental empathic dispell, as Fallen pointed out....is damn near godly.

Shalla
09-30-2005, 03:34 PM
I certainly fucking hope they don't implement that for wizards. Unless they implement Spiritual and Elemental Dispel in one for 740.

Aren't empaths going to have the minor mental circle or something in the future? If that is the case. I don't see how they have a strong connection to the spiritual to be able to dispel all spiritual spells including Cloak of shadows.. I would think a cleric would have more connection to the spiritual circle.

[Edited on 9-30-2005 by Shalla]

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 03:36 PM
Yes, because god forbid they give something to a profession without multiplying it by 10 for Sorcerers.

Shalla
09-30-2005, 03:39 PM
Let that be so, and I shall stop complaining. LMAO!

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 03:44 PM
No information has been given about 540 so far, so it's hard to specualte just what 540 will be. While nice, I could think of a few other spells that would be far better. Shit, I'd even like firestorm to be brought back.

Jolena
09-30-2005, 03:56 PM
Someone mentioned that they were hoping it would be higher trains.. um..isn't it like 85-90'sh now? that's what..level 3 and 4 of the rift isn't it? I'd say that's rather high for the Landing area.

that being said I don't think Jo's going to be going there for quite some time heh. I've a ways to go to get to that level of hunting.

Axhinde
09-30-2005, 04:01 PM
They're all between 80-90. It was hard for my wizard to fry there at 92 without leeching a shitload. I think Debia was hoping it'd be the rumored 130 train hunting area.

The Ponzzz
09-30-2005, 04:08 PM
Most likely, that is the new 500 spell that is suppose to come out before the end of the year. Most likely gave it to the creatures to monitor how effective it is.

And the rumored 130 area isn't to come out till later this year, right? This was always planned to be the 80-90 area, hence all the people pissing and moaning that it took too long to come out and they passed the area in level...

But the area looks pretty sweet... Friend sent me room descriptions and clips, must say it was well done.

[Thanatoph Bowels, Tunnel]
A soft hum vibrates in the air, growing in volume and tremor to the east. Its accompanying charge crackles from time to time as dust motes swirl about in slow motion. A short north-to-south passageway runs parallel to the hub of the quatrefoil. You also see an Illoke jarl.
Obvious exits: north, east, south, west

[Thanatoph Bowels, Central Hub]
Perfectly round and suffused with an eery unnatural light, the room serves as a hub to a wheel of corridors surrounding it. Glyphs, carved and smudged with soot, almost stand out and writhe in the odd lighting. A slightly raised stone platform with blackened arrows pointing off in all directions sits in the focal point, emitting a strange hum. You also see a greater earth elemental, an Illoke elder and a greater krynch.
Obvious exits: north, northeast, east, west, northwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, Tunnel]
The walls and ceiling close in, creating a cavern-like feeling along this east-west passageway. A clearly illuminated opening is nearby, while the opposite length of the tunnel extends into darkness. An occasional flare of fiery lava glows from beneath the cracked stone floor, followed by the sharp tang of brimstone. You also see a greater earth elemental and an Illoke jarl.
Obvious exits: north, east, south, west

[Thanatoph Bowels, East Lobe]
At the eastern juncture of the quatrefoil, faded yellow symbols of rising suns grace the walls. Broken jars lie on the floor, spilling ground copal and frankincense powders. Several ora braziers lie scattered about, dusty and damaged. You also see a greater earth elemental, an Illoke jarl, a greater krynch and an Illoke elder that is sitting.

[Thanatoph Bowels, East Lobe]
Huge chunks of broken stone along with the clay-spattered walls give clear indication that a massive struggle occured within this passageway. The atmosphere is rank and damp, the stench so vile it's almost unbreathable. Fragments of bone and partial skulls lie strewn along this path. You also see a greater earth elemental and an enruned tanik box.
Obvious exits: north, northeast, southwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, East Lobe]
Cracked stone flooring thrusts up sharply at odd angles, as though a massive upheaval wracked this structure. Moss and lichen thrive along the edges of the jutting pieces, drinking from the damp surroundings. Smooth, ridged tracks cut into the clay exposed underneath the broken stone, the result of collected moisture running off in rivulets. You also see an Illoke jarl.
Obvious exits: southeast, south, southwest, northwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, East Lobe]
A slight sulphuric scent taints the already stale air, and moistures beads on the surface of the passage walls. Little light exists to the northwest, plunging this narrow way into darkness, except for the thin veins of fluorescence caused by channels of calcite.
Obvious exits: southeast, northwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, Quatrefoil]
Deepening shadows in the rubbled entryway to this four-lobed structure fade into darkness at the far end of a southeast passage leading into the Stronghold bowels. Glyphic markings repeat in a puzzling pattern along the crumbling walls, their ancient meaning lost. Scraping noises from beyond a crude arched opening echo loudly in the emptiness of this underground labyrinth. You also see a stale apple tart and some silver coins.
Obvious exits: southeast, northwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, North Lobe]
At the northernmost point of the quatrefoil, a series of carved glyphs dabbed with greenish-black soot stand out against the pale stone surface of the walls. Emptied sacks of grain lie scattered on the floor, as though ransacked by something unspeakably powerful. You also see an Illoke jarl, an earth elemental and some silver coins.
Obvious exits: southeast, south, southwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, North Lobe]
Dark shadows and cobwebs deepen the length of this corridor, with an odd displacement of cool air in spots, as though updrafts seep through the solid rock walls and flooring. Dark glyphs blend in the dim lighting, making them difficult to discern. A northeast branch leads gradually uphill towards a slightly brighter area. You also see an earth elemental.
Obvious exits: northeast, southwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, North Lobe]
Churned clay floors pitted with holes and tiny puddles make for a hazardous obstacle course while traversing the north to south corridor. Cracked stone walls seep with moisture, feeding the lichen crawling along the walls.
Obvious exits: northeast, southwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, West Lobe]
This dimly lit T-intersection echoes with a soft thrumming heightened by a vibrating thwump-thwump as something imaginably massive heads in this direction. The soft sound of trickling water seems to come from within the walls and moves in a southeasterly direction. You also see an earth elemental.
Obvious exits: northeast, southeast, south, southwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, West Lobe]
Two passages meet here in a short angled corner, creating a blind spot. The lack of ambient light allows for no betraying shadows to even hint of what might lie beyond. The smooth and rounded edge where the two walls come to a point has been worn down by the touch of many hands over time, perhaps from a need for caution. You also see a greater krynch, an Illoke elder and a greater krynch.
Obvious exits: north, southeast, northwest

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
Dripping stalagmites make tinny *plinks* as droplets fall into a stagnant pool off to one side. Occasional low rumbles can be heard, the vibration in the ground creating tiny ripples on the waters surface. You also see a greater krynch.
Obvious exits: north, east, south, west

[Thanatoph Bowels, Cavern]
The path is flat and level here, the only obstructions being a few fallen stalactites. A look up reveals that the ceiling is covered with these spearlike stones, hopefully firmly attached. The constant vibrations rumbling through the area are not reassuring in the least. You also see a greater earth elemental, an Illoke elder and a crumbling stone bridge.

Just a few of the rooms I like. Mekthros managed to find the exit, which takes you back to the hot springs.

I was hoping it would be either the level 130 area or just another upper 90's - 100 area. I had no idea this was supposed to be just an 80-90 area. Doesn't really matter if I had known in advance though, since I have passed those levels quite some time ago.

An Illoke jarl summons the wrath of his god while pointing at you!
A massive stone hand appears in the air before you!
The great stone fist clamps around you, crushing your body in a terrible grip!

... 25 points of damage!
Strong blow to your chest!
You are stunned for 5 rounds!
... 15 points of damage!
Nasty blow to head leaves you dazed!
An Illoke jarl looks weakened!

Nothing like cheeseball critter moves to end a good hunt.

From what I could tell, sorcerers had it relatively easy in there as far as casters go. DC completely fucks the jarls and elders up by cracking their skin, and the elementals can be dealt with with an implosion. Wizards have a tougher time, and I just run from the elementals cause it takes way too much mana to down one.

I had heard they are attempting to design the 100+ areas to be very difficult to hunt by yourself. That said, I imagine anyone who's either freshly, or not very high over 100 will likely have a hard time doing anything. So I'm sure people will cry (myself included) when such an area comes out and it's hard as hell.

Opening the door from the outside is fairly easy. There is a bowl a bit north of the door, put a mastiff heart in it and pray.

Opening from the inside is a bit trickier, I only tried it once because I know 407. It's something about moving a boulder to climb on or somesuch, that's all I remember.

I have not tried the Bowels puzzles yet.

The next hunting area, the 3rd 90+ hunting grounds (1st is Rift, 2nd is EN Barrier) will be on Teras.

I believe that the 120-130ish hunting area will be in the EN... and it will be designed to be very hard to solo, and thus encourage grouping for surival purposes.

Also, with the release of the 120-130 area, there are discussions to remove the experience cap that limits it to 150 per kill (but is not a sure thing yet).

Arkalm's hands glow with power as he summons elemental energy to his command...
Arkalm gestures at an Illoke elder.
Arkalm hurls a hissing stream of acid at an Illoke elder!
AS: +505 vs DS: +252 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +51 = +329
... and hits for 125 points of damage!
Acid to the foot forms a pool into which the Illoke elder quickly melts to the hip!
The Illoke elder rumbles in agony as he teeters for a moment, then falls directly at you!

The door can not be picked from the outside, you just get teh phrase, no lock to pick, so its like a plated box.

:D

I believe that you can also pick the door (I cannot recall seeing it done) but I know from experience you can 407 the door to get in (but it will be hard).

Is the door based on luck? Cause we open it within three casts of 407.

<< The elder strikes you squarely, crushing you beneath him and the ground! >>

Have you tried a cast of 415 first? In the old Stronghold it was usually good for a knockdown, then I'd 904 as needed.

Did anyone ever post the puzzle here? I know you have to the turn the ring and mess with the triangles or something, but I don't remember what it was.
