I know there was a thread like this somewhere earlier but I'm too damned lazy to find it.

So I made ANOTHER thread for people to post their own personal works of art in.

Most of you here know that aside from photography, I learned to weld and silver-solder. I wanted to share a few pieces with you. First one is a clock. All of the arms work, save for one which just dangles there purposely. One of them actually bumps against one of the other clocks in an endless fight to make a full circle. Most of my pieces have some relation to time with it I've noticed, as I seemed to be fighting it a lot in school due to project deadlines.

Next one is a morbid sheep, I love him. He's made out of steel wool. And yes, I made that barbed wire by FUCKING HAND as Home Depot would only sell it in 100yard bundles. Pain in my ass, but worth it. It was supposed to express my lack of sleep due to having to get that final project done.

Lets see...this rusted mess was actually really fantastic at one point. They're transparency photographs I took of old machine parts. This project SUCKED THE LIFE OF MY SOUL. This was the piece I was showing in the school gallery in order for me to graduate. It WAS gleaming steel but...weather does a number on such things. I actually like the rust, as the images are old and rusted machine parts. It is supposed to be an...3-d photograph. Sounds cheesy, huh? Well it is set up to be walked AROUND, not hung on a wall, so the image changes as you look through it. I'll post some of the individual images a bit later.

Lastly, is the one piece of jewelry I'm not embarassed to wear out into public. Its a little rough, but I've gotten so many compliaments on it by total strangers I've started collecting huge costume gems to start more pieces.

Its a start.

Now share yours!

Here's a couple shots of the transparancy piece. They're digitally done, and then I had alpha graphics turn them into the transparancies.

It's a new (for me) style that I'm trying to develop.

Here's some stuff I did for my school's first mock election last year. Caused quite a stir, lead to me comparing a teacher to Hitler (without knowing it was a teacher), and we were of course the most successful PAC by far. Click for bigger.

Thought I'd share these. Now that its cooled off I'm able to start working on what I REALLY want to do....melt metal with fire!

I got this idea while we were up north looking at those craftsy reststops and realized, "Hey, I can do that!"

We took pictures cause I looked like a bug in my goggles and of course there was mass flamage. I'll get a picture of the finished product tomorrow.

Its a piece of farming equipment...a large steel disc used to plow fields with. You use a bunch of them on a rack and create rows in the dirt to plant stuff.

Aaanyway, I cut a pumpkin face out with a flame cutter and welded a stem on it.

So this thread definitely needs to be revived. Because...I GOT A WIRE WELDER. Which is fan-fucking-tastic since I no longer have to use the one at work. I just finished this tree piece for my friend Katie who is Irish and wants to get the tree of life tattoo on her somewhere. Her birthday is coming up so I decided to make her a wall hanging of it.

Its all steel and copper. And the colors are the result of acid-spraying it in a 55gal garbage can. :D

Sorry if the pictures are huge.

Shari

Its not really that big, maybe three feet tall. I'd say it weighs maybe three pounds? I can hang it from my wall just into drywall and it stays up so not that heavy.

I'd like to do a really big one, with less roots across the main wall in my living room but I'd have to do it out of tubing instead of rod.

Doing three full vehicle wraps this week. 1st is a Hummer H3 with pictures of babies in the womb. Pretty disturbing. 2nd is a van using real gold vinyl. 3rd is my work van. Silver, blue, metallic red, and white. I'll post some pics. I'm actually proud of them so far.

Oh and nice cabinet. Don't worry about the haters!!!!!!!!!

Edit: have one pic saved. Here's the H3 about half way done. The fenders and windows are done also, just didn't take a picture.

100% from scratch, designed myself.

After a night of working in the shop I went to the movies, and when I paid for my ticket I took my wallet out of my pocket and it came out with this massive puff of sawdust which made a mess on the floor. The look on the face of the person at the counter was priceless.

LMingrone
03-10-2009, 12:23 AM
Well, that Hummer cost the guy somewhere between $4k-$5k. It's based on sq. ft. The work van above is probably costing us $7k, but we bought the best materials available. A small car or truck is usually $2-$3k. Most of the cost is labor. It is not easy to do. A waste of money in my eyes, unless you're going to sell more from the marketing than the wrap costs. You could always just letter it up for a few hundred bucks. That's mostly what I do.

Mostly Done!

I converted a Harbor Freight wagon into a pirate ship for Riley when we go to our local Renaissance Festival. Took a few weeks, and aside from cosmetic details, its finished! I fabricated the entire thing to be hooked over the sides of the wagon in panels so they can all be stored in a trunk of a car. The mast pulls out as well and it can be entirely restored into a typical red wagon with raised wooden sides. He's used it twice and doesn't mind it for the most part. I figure he's going to LOVE it when he gets older because it was difficult to keep kids at the faire from trying to climb into it themselves. Sail, and all the cushions were also sewn by yours truely.

Oh and...that treasure chest on the back was a total luck find at a local second-hand store.

Actually, the van looks pretty damn sick...for what it is. Ya know, get some rims or something a little fancier for wheels. They're holding back the image I think you are trying to portray with the work van (unless the only image is I spent a lot on ad space). Don't get me wrong, the van looks nice, but you spend all that money on making the van snazzier ya know, so put a few hundred into rims (any upgrade that shines them up some). It certainly is eye catching though. Hope it helps promote the biz.

Yay new stuff!

First one I copied from a picture I stol'd from teh internets. Used a projector to get the shape down (because I can't draw to save my fucking life) and then worked from reference on the picture to get the colors and shades down. Oh, its painted on a 30" x 40" canvas. :) Biggest one I've been able to pull off.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e152/PetiteDollie/035.jpg

After the month it took on the lily I wanted to do this painting my friend saw at Pier 1 and fell in love with. Fucker cost $300 at the store and I told her it was ridiculous and I'd make her it myself. My work uses these really thing sheets of plywood that are 48" x 96" to interleaf between sheet metal and I stole one that was cut in half to paint on.

Heh, we're all kind of art barterer's in our little circle. I'm *usually* the one doing sculpture but its too hot to weld so I needed a creative outlet. The girl who received the painting is our writer. She chronicled Riley's entire birth from the time we were admitted to the hospital to when he was born. Which was great because I hardly remember any of it! Most of the others are painters so we call kindof pass work around onto each other.

Here's the gate I FINALLY completed for my parents for uh...Christmas.

Hand forged all the scrolls myself. Had someone bend the arch for me. I finished it with a patina and then put a tinted metal oil over it so it looks like burnished bronze. I don't think I've ever been so proud, or so satisfied with a piece. Nor have I ever seen my dad so proud of my work. (Yanno, since he wanted me to be a lawyer instead of an artist.) He offered to help me start up my own studio if I could write up a good business plan for it. Not sure how I feel about that yet.
