I need more (new) music for reading. Because I read while I listen it is imperative there be no lyrics. I would like bands in the genre of Unwed Sailor.

Also please restrict jazz suggestions to "cool" or "be-bop" eras.

Please advise.

Dead Can Dance

most of their albums, though I really like reading to "Spleen and Ideal"

Gladiator sountrack
Mummy sountrack
Zorro soundtrack

Does the reading have to be any specific instrument? If you are interested in guitar instrumentals, I recommend The Water Song by Jorma Kaukonen. The melody weaves between series of triplets, it's pretty interesting stuff and sounds awesome when played. You can find the tablature -and- the sheet music for it online.

For piano, I would recommend any of Bach's fugues, or ragtime.

Bela Fleck & the Flecktones

Trust me.

I think even Peam would approve this suggestion.

I dig some Bela Fleck/Flecktones myself. They're great live.

Bela is awesome! And Victor Wooten's playing at Toad's in New Haven October 16.

Currently in my "Study" playlist on iTunes is a band called Harriet Beecher Stowe, select Miles Davis, select Bela, and Unwed Sailor.

I kinda like rock-y instrumental. I am using the music to drown out the inconsiderate library-goers who prefer socializing to studying. But when I have lyrics I cannot concintrate and thus I want instumental music. I've only selections from Bela's greatest hits -- album suggestions?

Excellent work, grasshopper.

For some reason, I can't bring anything purely instrumental to my head.

The Desperado soundtrack has some beautiful instrumental work on it, but there are a few vocal tracks worked in.

The instrumental half of the Rob Dougan album is awesome.

Self-titled album (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002LKJ/qid=1127349019/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-8046730-9295016?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) is the one I have in my CD case. But mainly because there's a few songs that I really like (Sinister Minister and Sunset Road).

Also, if you like NIN, they have some decent instrumentals.

A warm place
The Frail
Just like you imagined
Complication
The Mark has been Made
Ripe (with decay)

That they do. A Warm Place is one of my favorite instrumentals ever.

Rush - La Villa Strangiato

is another.

John Powell - Assassin's Tango is a nice track. From the Mr. and Mrs. Smith soundtrack.
