Well actually I was under hunting just to get familiar with my macros again. But yeah that is funny 1/3 mana gone in like 15 seconds.

Sorta makes me doubt myself on the whole "the extra protection is worth 5 or 5% hindrance"...If you fail 4 disabling spells in a row due to hindrance with a manuever attackign critter in front of you, thats death

Yea, I've got 7% with brig and an empath trained to 40 armor ranks. Amazing how you can land so many fumble/bad rolls in a row. Of course, someone mentioned in another thread where this was discussed that we tend to remember the failures more than we do streaks where there is no hindrance at all.

What strikes me is that while SIMU/Gemstone strives to make the gaming environment somewhat realistic or at least in genre to fantasy norms... no where in my fantasy readings have I come across any sort of hindrance with regards to magic abilities and armor being worn by the caster. Perhaps 22 years worth of sci-fi/fantasy reading is just not indepth enough. :(

While you bring up a good point Ganalon, if there was no hindrance at all there'd be a bunch of Wizards who (despite any maneuver penalties) would run around in full plate casting to their heart's desire and not have to worry about RT. I think hindrance is a good idea for somewhat of a game balancing tool. Though, if you have 1% hindrance you SHOULD only be failing one out of 100 casts, not 3 or 4 in a row. It needs some recoding to somehow keep track of every 100 casts, and randomly fail x amount of times, as per hindrance %.

yea, there is that, or I can blame it on being the parent of an almost 3 year old.

I agree with the need for game balance since I knew a few old sorcerers who used to be impervious/omnipitant with full plate on.

I guess its the lesser of evils when all things are considered. I wonder if anything new will be considered since they are using different code and have more capabilities in their tool-boxes. :shrug:

They were probably wearing hauberk, which was do-able in GS3.

I know Malokii was in hauberk and just nasty.

Plate. You would just prep spell, remove plate, cast, wear plate. No wear RT was sweet.

I was trained for brig and I wasn't that old as a wizard in GSIII, and I was working for torso chain.

Originally GS was based on ICE - Iron Crown Enterprises system. That had spell hinderances and there is also spell hinderances in standard D&D books which I believe would be considered influences.


I remember a BUG in GENie days.

I would go down and hunt Gem Vars and they would hit me with a E-Critical and then get a game message that that crit table was not working.

Liked never getting critted for awhile.

I wore that in the '99 Gladiator Games - it was "some hypnotic black vultite plate mail".

It had +20 TD, and the CvA bonus - so it was like almost picking up opals for free. :)



It wasn't my normal armor. For most of my time, I usually wore my ice age crit padded double leather.

The old armor was a straight crit rank base. Have armor that reduced 9 crit ranks, take a rank 9 crit ....you end up with a rank 1 (the minimum). Have armor that reduced 3 crit ranks, take a rank 5 hit - it ends up as a rank 2, etc, etc.

So, tell me - how does Malok have armor that reduces 50 hp's (essentially - 10 crit rank reduction - which as I just explained was NOT required under the old system) of phantom damage from an ICE age armor? Pure over kill, that wasn't needed or required. We think GM error. Anyone else? There were / are some other 'goofy' ones out there, just using Malok's as an example.

Also, how did the old padded armor's get "changed over" to the new style? Was this done manually on each armor, a system change, etc? I've honestly never checked my old style padded armor to see how it functions today - but assume its on the "phantom" hp system...

I wore that double leather until the last year or two, when I picked up "some silvery eahnor chain mail".

It added +7 TD; giving an odd answer for anyone that would try to cast a spell at me, and figure out what level I was based off my TD and the spells that I had up.










Malokii on the other hand was fully trained for hauberk (130 trains) at level 145 and he was a bad ass toon for his level. The hauberk was 7x, heavy crit padded.

Do you happen to own/seen any crazy sets of partial coverage scale armor? I am looking to see if anyone has a better suit of Cuirbouilli than the one I own.

I haven't been in GS for a few years.

Ciston had several decent items available several years ago.

Here's the scale armors that he had for sale last time I got a copy of his list:
ARMOR - BRIG CLASS

1. 4x decent crit padded brig that hides your age and items - 140m
a cloudy humanoid shape

2. 6x very heavy crit padded cuir leather - 45m
some ancient ivory and grey leather armor

3. 9x heavy crit padded leather breastplate that weighs less than 2 lbs. - 60m
an elegant veniom-studded breastplate

4. 10x lightened somewhat crit padded brig - 45m
some jet black veniom banded brig

5. 8x heavy crit padded strengthened brig 99/360 - 50m
some blackened laen studded leathers

6. 5x heavy crit padded leather breastplate - 20m
a red and gold sea kracken leather breastplate studded with veniom with a star
ruby in the center

7. 9x heavy crit padded strengthened 9 lb. brig 99/600 - 62.5m
some glistening deep blue myklian scale armor reinforced with gleaming golden chain
mail and fitted with mirror-finished mithril alloy arm and leg protectors





Most the really nice stuff with incredible+ padding usually didn't hit the open market. :)
It was usually sold quietly to other friends so as to not draw attention to it.

Most of them got changed via armor conversion or were lost to the void, unfortunately.
