View Full Version : My wake-up call

So, this morning I awoke knowing I still had two months before I was set to ship out to Marine boot camp. After a call from my recruiter, I am now preparing to leave tonight. A jarring thought, to say the least. So, I thought I would go ahead and say goodbye to all of my Gemstone friends who might read this, with a promise to return someday. Take it easy everybody.

I asked my husband who was a marine for eight years. He said:
Don't laugh or smile, ever.
Don't talk back, ever.
Don't worry about all the yelling, they always yell.
Do it right the first time.
Do what you're told.
Good luck to you.

Hardest part of boot camp is not laughing.
Even though I didn't do Marine boot camp, it is very true in Army BCT. So hard not to laugh.

The only advice I can give you (or will give you the best part of boot camp is figuring out stuff on your own) would be this:
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
When you're tasked to do something don't get flustered by your environment IE yelling drill instructors, mortars, flares, etc. Focus on the task and complete it smoothly. You will be done much faster than anyone trying to rush through. Also when you are the first one done find someone else and help them. This is the Marine Corps it's Semper Fi not Semper I we aren't a Marine corps of one, teamwork is key

From experience take heed to what Tsunami and Anticor said. Also take heed to my advice and feing the pugil stick at his nads. Every respecting man flinches to protect the nads.
Also I hope you are an east coaster so you can enjoy the much cooler 13 weeks.
Ooo.. also no matter what the fuck is biting you while in formation DO NOT scratch or swat.

P.s. if you get bit by a sand flea your arm/leg will be amputated so beware.
P.s.s when that monster mosquito is sitting on your cheek draining your life force pick a focal point off in the distance and just stare.

My drill sergeant always used to tell us, "I don't give a fuck if a giant (insert random animal) jumps out of the woods and fucks you in the ass, you do NOT move in the position of attention!"

Good luck, and thanks. When you've been trudging around for five days carrying five zillion pounds of gear and have run out of TP, console yourself with the though that marine uniforms are HOT.

I am probably one of the few who know you as Siledor. I always enjoyed what interactions we had, and I am happy to know you are moving on to do something that will truly better your life.
When you finally do get settled, look for Evarin. He will, as always, be glad to see his sho'nah is still alive and kicking.
Best of luck, man!
