How much if any do you feel Ponderland has effected the RP in GSIV?

I know it's effected *psinet* OOC, but It hasn't effected a single thing for me RPwise, Not sure why it would... There's always been player picture sites, just not on the scale that hers is.

I think it has to some extent (hence why I don't post mine) however it hasn't affected the way I deal with others.

it hasnt changed how I RP at all. And in response to how it has permeated the game because it's dealt with whispers does not mean anything. I've whispered to people if they have AIM, it does not mean that showal was going to go home that night and write them an email on his computer.

I think it has brought some people closer in the sense that it has linked a face to the name. But the gatherings and such are also bringing people closer so....I think people are more likely to enjoy the game and goof off a little more if they "know" the person behind the character. That has more to do with then just a picture though. Otherwise, I dont think if effects RP.

Not afraid to admit it, hon. It's just not true. When I played, my ranger was NOT me. The characters those other people played were NOT them. The characters looked different, in my mind's eye, to the people who played them (even if I knew what those people looked like...and I did, for a few).

For me, the separation of Elanthia and the here and now was total. I made no comparisons, and took nothing from this world into that one. Perhaps, everyone does not do that. However, some of us do.

As for whether or not the OOC photo gallery has had any affect on my personal roleplay... it definitely hasn't. I haven't had anyone approach Michiko because of the picture of me (to my knowledge, anyway), and I'm not the sort of person who would try and approach a character IG just because I think they're attractive or whatever.

I'd agree with you there. The majority probably can't (or don't) discern between the two worlds. However, if they really want to learn to roleplay, and really want to learn to keep Elanthia in Elanthia and the real world in the real world, they can. It's a matter of making up one's mind to do so.

I think you're basically an idiot if you let what the players on the other end look like interfere with how you interact with their characters. I talk to a number of people in game on AIM. I still maintain the same relationships I've established regardless of how my friendship with them are.

Showal absolutely despises Arkans and Teclys, but I like both of their players. Showal will usually be a dick to Arkans and Teclys and I can still whisper shit back and forth about things going on out of game or make jokes with them. It doesn't mean anything has changed for the game.

I'm not afraid to admit that it has changed the way I play. Me posting here and meeting people here has also not changed the way I play. I like reading Stray's posts but that doesn't mean I've ever had Showal talk to him in game because he has never needed to. I know a few people that I don't like out of game and I still roleplay with them. I know people that I think are beautiful and some that are ugly out of game, I still haven't interacted more/less/differently with them. There are some people out of game that are boring as hell too, but they can be fun to interact with in game.

I like ES a lot. She's awesome. I've never brought Showal to RR to meet Kiera.

I sometimes will whisper to people stuff that I've met in OOC or on here, but that's still OOC stuff and nothing affects the way I play.

Deal with it Chaddy, some people are not as affected by looks as you are.

Heh. I'm a very visual person. I had pictures in my mind of settings, creatures, characters, items...everything. I knew exactly what they all looked like. The real world simply never entered into my visualizations of Elanthia. I think that's why I loved the game so. My imagination was in complete control of my surroundings. It's a gift not easily come by, but well worth the effort to gain.

If you're starting to consider what effect your being a "fucktard" in game has on others, that's awesome. Believe me, it does matter to a lot of people. Many of these are people with whom you could actually enjoy interaction. Yet, as long as they see you acting like a "fucktard", you'll miss out on that opportunity.

What was really cool about the "handsome elf" thing was that I said something to the player about it once. He looked at me for a moment and started to cry. We sat there and hugged each other for a long time and I knew, somehow, that some of the hurt he'd suffered for many years had been assuaged. It was a wonderful feeling for both of us.

There have been sites like this around for years, especially if you count the Simucon type galleries that people post up. Heck, we even have pictures here on the PC.

I admit I'll highlight the hot chicks from gatherings in case I run by them in game (don't play GS these days though), but it certainly doesn't affect my RP, since I wasn't very good at that anyway.

It's the meeting people that changes my attitude towards them in game. There are plenty of people I consider to be idiots in game but cool to hang with in person. In some sense them being annoying in game is their form of roleplaying, I suppose.
