My original intent was to make this for my parents for Christmas. Clearly I'm slacking. Their front entryway is really nice but they put up this ghetto-ass baby gate held together with duct tape to keep the dog and my son from escaping when they have the front door open. For them to have such a nice house and this set up didn't make sense to me so I made this for him. Its about three quarters finished. I have two more grape clusters to make and then it needs to be sandblasted and patina applied. It should have an oil-rubbed bronze look when done. Each and every scroll has been hand forged out. In fact, every piece on there started as a straight rod. I'm on my way to Popeye arms soon!

My friend started with floor acrobatics and then got into silks (she did do some pole work in between). She absolutely loves it though. Her body type is very similar and she had a huge advantage to people just leaping into it given she'd already developed her flexibility/core prior. Just something to consider!

I've taken an aerial hoops class, and I might play around with it more, but it HURT. Lots of odd placements where bones would callous, and I got dizzy when learning the entry spins. Silks are okay, and I like watching some acts by people who could do it professionally, but in general it's not my favorite to watch. It's also more balletic than other disciplines and I'm not that graceful.

I was obsessed with my core. I wanted defined abs and that v-thingy going down your hips. Even though I was rock hard I could never get cut, even though I had friends who could. What's funny is that during weight lifting and stuff my friends would purposefully use lower weights while I would push for the heaviest weight I could. They were afraid of bulking up and looking manly, but I never did. I figured as long as my hormones weren't out of whack I was fine.

I had a very warped perception of what guys found attractive. I was wildly insecure because I was short and curvy and assumed that the only big boobs guys liked were fake ones that stuck straight out even without a bra, and the girl needed to have a tall, cut body otherwise. I finally had a day where I guess an epiphany is the word, I realized even if I got those abs it wasn't going to change my boobs, or my wide hips, or make me taller. It felt so fucking stupid to be obsessed and depressed over it.

As much as I would have made an excellent 800m runner, and it likely would have been my best race, I avoided it. The main reason is that one of the other members of the 4x8 I would have to run with was a douche, and ended up in prison. So I ran the 400m, and settled with 8th in NYS. As well as the 1,2 and jumping (high, long).

I shoulda been a hell of a lot better. I would get wicked nervous, and would have to overcome that in the first 200... before I started burning dudes on the second 200. Hence why the 800 would have been a better match. After easily running a sub-50 400 with plenty left to spare, I could have easily floated my way through another lap. A 60 second 400 felt like a jog to me, when I was in my prime. I'm guessing it would kill me, now. *shrug*
