My boyfriend's old band worked with a local photographer for a while but I didn't get to see most of the pictures until recently. I thought they came out nicely. He seems to like to work with musicians so if you have need of band pictures that don't involve a brick wall and you live in/around Iowa, call him. His name's on some of 'em and he's Googleable.

Meh, it's not hard at all to make a good band shot. The photographer hardly has to do anything except start at a high or low angle.
If anything it's the band that do all the work and if they're included right in the editing, presentation and most of the preparation it leaves little for the photographer to do but shoot.

Good pics.

Really? It seems tougher than that. At least a little, surely. When I go to shows with a camera or I play onstage myself and a non-professional takes pictures for me, they don't turn out nearly so well.

A baby doesn't care if her ears look cute. Parents who do it are causing their child pain for no reason other than they like how it looks. It might not be a HUGE amount of pain, but it's the principle of the matter. I've never been a fan of the practice.

I wish mine had stayed in since birth. I have no recollection of that experience. I do remember getting mine done at age six and the massive amount of pain after I had begged to get them pierced (I've gone back four times to get more). Of course the parents want their kid to look cute, they have a rare non-ugly baby. It's not like they're putting her in pageants

1) how do you know?
2) that's not the point
3) knowingly causing your child pain, even for a moment, seems to be somewhat out of whack with the primary role of a parent--to keep your child safe and out of harm's way

LOL. How is that at all comparable? Please, don't stop there, keep exaggerating. I laugh at a racist joke therefore... I like watching babies get microwaved? If you can't see the difference between a joke amongst adults and subjecting a 9 month child to physical pain, then I wouldn't know where to begin explaining the difference to you.

It's not something that I campaign to end. I'm not writing any senators about outlawing it, I just think less of parents that do it, and I move on.

Moving on...

who's having fun? the parents or the child getting punctured in the ear?

And please enlighten me. When did I say I had no issue with ethnic or racial slurs? Or did you just infer from my jokes that it doesn't bother me? Wow. There you go again making assumptions. At least you're consistent.

the OP in that thread pointed out that the slur was not used as a joke.

Regardless, words slung at an adult are not the same as needless pain administered to a baby. Remember that old sticks and stones saying? Well, the piercing is the metaphorical sticks and stones, here.

the baby will be fine and won't remember it. it's more dangerous to let them go outside and play, or leave them in a day care. anyway, the baby is obviously loved and cared for, it's far from child abuse.

OH wow. It seems like each day we're having some debate about children and the parents involvement.

They're real earrings.

I'm sadistic. I did it to her at 4 months.

....

My Mother pierced my ears when I was an infant. She told me she did it because I would be too young to remember and as I was growing up it wouldn't bother me because they were always there. If I didn't want them I could always take them out.

Amelia did cry when it happened. I held her in my arms and I cried too. Yeah, it was really hard for me to see her go through that. It was 30 seconds of scary on each ear. She seemed more afraid of the sound in her ear than the pain. Right after the earrings were put in she stopped crying and just looked around like normal. I was more emotional about it afterwards than any emotion she was exhibiting.

I really don't see what the big deal is about piercing her ears. She cries a lot more when she's getting her vaccinations. Am I going to stop those too? Heh, no.

All comes down to one thing- She's my child. I take care of her in what I believe is the best possible way to do so. I'm a damn good Mother. If you're annoyed by something, don't do it to your own children. If I want your opinion about the raising of my child or feel the need to grab a general vote about a topic.. I probably won't come to an internet forum to find it. ;)

(I understand you all get to comment on it since I posted the pics. I'm not offended or upet. Let's just avoid that sort of post now.)

They do ear piercings at the baby doctor. They do it while they are giving the vaccinations at 4 months for an extra $35. I'm hoping my kid will be a barefoot hippy so I'm not going to take that choice away from her to rebel against enforced societal mutilation.

I fucking hate to agree with Allereli, but in this case I do.

I wish my mom had done my ears when I was a baby. A lot of my friends growing up had it done then and they didn't remember it (and holy shit they were all perfectly well-adjusted!!! :D), so when I was around 8 and most of my friends already had their ears pierced, long-since healed and were wearing cute jewelry, I wanted to get it done. Yeah it was painful, and I had always wished that my mom just did it when I was a baby because I know I made it worse on myself because I tried to clean it on my own rather than just letting my mom do it.

That did change though once I became 13 or so and started piercing my ears all the way up, the pain didn't phase me at all then.

I like how all the guys are appalled by it but all the girls think it's innocuous. Fast forward 8 years to when the fathers want their son to play football and the mothers don't want him to get hurt and it's the other way around.

I don't really have an opinion but just gotta be careful. Rank 4 puncture to the ear can result in death before the baby's head has enough padding.

If the pain is that unbearable to go through when you're older AND CAN CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF then it certainly shouldn't be done to an infant.

I was being nice by ignoring this particular retarded justification instead of pointing out how stupid it is.

It might be retarded if I said it because the pain was unbearable. However I never said that, douche. The pain isn't unbearable, however the healing process can be delayed if the kid tries to take care of it all themselves and doesn't do it properly, which is what happened with mine. Plus, when you're older, chances are you'll be more apt to play with it because you'll be conscious it's sitting in there, which is a higher risk for infection. A baby wouldn't be as aware once the initial pain and discomfort was done.

Well the pain was the major reason I saw you guys cite. My point still stands. If the pain is enough that you'd prefer your 8-10 year old not have to go through it, it's not something I would put on an infant given that ear piercing isn't beneficial like vaccines.

And infants won't play with their ears as much and risk infection? I don't know how accurate that is.

It's not a huge deal. I don't want to seem like I'm lecturing on parenting. Just not something I think is smart/necessary.

I didn't say they weren't aware of their surroundings or play with things they shouldn't. However babies tend to play with things they see. And unless a baby has its eyes somewhere other than where they normally would be, chances are they can't see the earrings on a regular basis.

What I DID say is that babies tend to forget about things once they "disappear", if you will. That's why it's easier for a baby to not incessantly play with a freshly-pierced ear as opposed to an older child who remembers it's in there because they begged their mom for it.

Oh, and I said AS aware. Not aware, period.

Maybe that was something other people cited, but not me. Please read my posts before you get your panties in a bunch over them. I admitted it was painful, but I also stated that I don't think the pain was too bad. No worse than a fall off your bike and a skinned knee that burns for a day or three. Or a vaccine which hurts worse to begin with and is sore for a few days. I also never said I would prefer an 8-10 year old not go through with it. I just think in general, the healing process is easier on an infant.

"save them the pain of getting it later..." if they indeed want to get them pierced later.

Frankly, I don't understand the point of earrings. It's like an old medieval status thing, to show off your diamonds. If you're into that classist bullshit, I guess that's cool. But I've never been like, "Hmmm, not attracted to this girl OMFG LOOK AT HER EARRINGS SEXX0R ME PLS!!!!!11"

Yes, I did just make a class argument against the social norm of getting one's ears pierced. Because it arose out of aristocratic classes.

And before anyone asks, no, I don't care about wearing pretty things, and I think people who are concerned with what things they're wearing, who "feel better" in "nicer clothes," are airheaded douches.

There's nothing wrong with that. A lot of people feel better when they feel they look nice, rather than sloppy or whatever. I'm not going to say I never leave the house in sweats or with unwashed/styled hair, but I too prefer to look what I think is "good" when I leave the house.

It's not about self-esteem or confidence, it's about doing something for yourself that you enjoy - not doing anything for anyone else's benefit. And you really are trying too hard to give the impression that you don't care about anything others think ('cause that's not what this was about). It just makes me think that you really DO care what others think, and want them to think you're sooooo cool because you don't care what they think.

What I've learned from the recent posts in this thread.

1. People either really like the idea of baby ear piercing or they don't.

I got mine pierced at seven, I still have the set...somewhere.

2. People really judge a lot on clothing choices and feel impassioned about it.

Most of the time, if I'm not wearing whites I wear a button down or band t-shirt capris/jeans and a pair of chucks. I don't know if I look good, but if I didn't I'm sure my SO would let me know.

3. People either really hate or don't know what patchouli is.

It smells like someone took a roll in some really foul dirt.

4. Narc's Panini look delicious and her dog is cute.

I wish I had a panini and maybe the dog.

Vaccinations are more harmful than an ear piercing. Read the symptoms and what may happen. OH! Death! Alright..
Most vaccinations aren't even needed, IMO. I have to give her all of them for daycare and school.

Who the hell said any thing about makeup? I missed a post. I don't put makeup on my child. She's beautiful. If she wasn't, I still wouldn't do it. Unless you consider the first two weeks of her life under phototherapy lights, then that's a hearty no. She doesn't even have access to indirect sunlight. It's horrible for babies!

That's right. The stuff left at the bottom of your baggie. She smoked frequently herself and did mushrooms as well. Yes, I did say she was breast feeding. She also didn't believe in immunizations. She didn't trust what was in them.

Her little ones ears were pierced as well. I'm not saying I'm against it. I'm just saying.....

What do you mean, YOU PEOPLE?!

I mean.. you people.

Okay, which, and why then? What's your reasoning behind why certain vaccines aren't necessary? And since you say it's not vaccines, then what is "the main prevention to things reoccuring"?

Also, no one ever said vaccinations were 100% effective. But you're 100% stupid if you think your kid is better off without them than with them. That is all.

Try reading what I actually post and maybe we could actually get somewhere or at least let the topic freaking die already.

I said vaccinations are not 100% effective. It's another reason why I don't believe ALL of them are needed. I don't think EVERY SINGLE SHOT is needed.

OH wait. No matter what I say or how I phrase this, you believe I'm 100% stupid. Well, that saves me a lot of time of trying to explain my position.

Vaccinations are more harmful than an ear piercing. Read the symptoms and what may happen. OH! Death! Alright..
Most vaccinations aren't even needed, IMO. I have to give her all of them for daycare and school. The MMR shot alone is responsible for preventing at least 625,000 illnesses a year, probably more due to population growth. It is true that this number represents roughly 1% of children at the time, meaning that your particular child had a 99% chance of not contracting any of those particular diseases.

http://www.hhs.gov/nvpo/concepts/intro6.htm

Believe what you choose, these are the facts. I don't know what your child will "need", or what diseases she will be exposed to. I do know the approximate amount of harm ear piercing causes, and that it is an incredible feat of the imagination to put it on par with the childhood illnesses we're talking about.

Except you haven't explained shit. I read what you continue to post, and all you do is repeat yourself. You haven't explained which aren't needed. You haven't explained what you think is the main factor in preventing reoccurences of these diseases, since you state it's not vaccinations. In a previous post I explained why I was hesitant about the vaccinations. No I didn't explain in great detail which and what shot I don't believe is absolutely necessary. Yes, I have repeated many things because what I'm saying to you is not going to change.

I agree with you about it's effectiveness. I don't agree that each shot is absolutely needed. I do what is necessary for HER despite some opinions I may hold on it. She has the shots, right?

The awesome thing about all of this? I don't have to explain a single thing unless I want to. I have opinions. Wrong or not, they are my own. You already predetermined the conclusion to our conversation. Remarks that include, you're 100% stupid if you think or do this, really don't make me want to keep this up. So.. done with this conversation. Yep, bailing out.
