My apartment complex pasted flyers on all the doors informing everyone that several families impacted by Katrina will be moving in. They're seeking donations to help out these people which I think is great.
They need stuff such as furnishings, money, clothing in a variety of sizes, toys, toiletries, household items such as pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. etc., canned goods, juice, bottled water...bottled water???
Is there something about our drinking water here that they're not telling us?

Heh. Probably not, hon. It's more than likely a concession to these people's recent experience with water. They're probably not really very trusting of ANY water right now. Also, there are differences in the water from one place to another, and a move can affect some people, since the water tastes differently than what they're used to. These folks are going to be particularly sensitive to that, I'd think.

That, or another possibility is that those that made the flyers cut and pasted the info of needed supplies from other media which were intended for general use and so inclused the needed bottled water if still near the zone without potable water.

I would give soda or juice to the Survivors myself. I would feel sorta sad giving them water being they have had quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. :(

I dunno... given my experiences with putting tap water in soda bottles, I'd definitely ask for bottled water too.
It seems like the taste of the contaminents (chlorine specifically) gets magnified the longer it's stored. Just an opinion though.
