Someone try this.

http://www.pureenergysystems.com/news/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

I have decided to try and increase my gas mileage a shit load out of boredom and curiousity. Should be fun. Not because I'm paying an extra 10 bucks on a fill mind you.

OH and I love the enviroment.. yada yada yada..

I've heard that it works decently if you put in the right amount but it can really screw up your O2 sensors.

Yeah, this price spike has made me start tracking my mileage again.

My piece of junk neon may not be pretty or fancy but I am glad it's little four cylinder engine sips gas like it does.

I'm getting over 30 mpg, alot over in fact when on the highway so that lessens the blow a bit at least.

For the moment i think i'll stick to normal injector cleaners and such as I don't need any large repair bills to cancel out potential gas savings.

I decided to try this since I have a 93 Bronco with a 351W in it.

I was getting about 15 on pure Highway mileage.

I put in the acetone with a fillup yesterday. So far it seems that I am getting better but I will know more when I finish testing out in a couple day.

I drive 140 miles a day MWF and 200 on TU/TH.

I usually get about 400 on a tank of gas right now. 450-500 it would be great. I am tired of driving my wifes Standard.

You are insnae to be driving that kind of mileage in that huge vehicle.

Go out and buy a used Corolla for your daily driving or something. 15 mpg highway? Thats just nuts.

I like how they mention that acetone dissolves plastics and "other cheap substances". It dissolves a LOT of things. I don't imagine it's good to put in your gas tank, I could be wrong though.

I want good gas mileage as much as the next guy but I am not putting acetone in my gas tank. I am betting it will ruin a number of components.

I am use old fashioned techniques, properly inflated tires, no jack rabbit starts and crazy acceleration. I try to estimate time to red lights so I don't have to jump on the brakes. I put in new plugs and air filter. I am hoping it will make a difference.

I imagine if this did work, some company would have picked up on it and you'd see it on the shelf along with the "octane booster" and "fuel cleaner" and the dry gas.

I only get around 22 MPG on my Ford Explorer, but I don't drive very far when I do drive, and I ride my bike or walk when I don't drive. So a full tank of gas usually lasts me a month to 6 weeks. Take that, all you small car drivers who come down from your long trips off the highway to criticize my "gas guzzling" ways! Bah!

Skip the acetone.

xtc had some good recommendations. Change your air filter, keep your tires inflated, check your PCV, do your scheduled maintenance, don't carry a lot of junk. Driving slower helps, too, but most people won't do that :)

Additionally, if you have an older car (maybe more than 50k miles), toss in a can of BG 44k. It costs around $20 but seems to work very well.

What's BG 44k?

An additive.

A local car expert (has his own radio & tv show) pushes BG44k like it's oxygen.

Evidently it's supposed to be pretty good.

If I had my barracuda, you wouldn't be able to pry it out of my hands or add crap to it, sorry. I don't care HOW much mileage it gets. There are just some things that are sacred.

mmmm muscle cars.

FWIW, I'll keep driving my deisel.

What? There's a line?

I need to be kept appraised of these things!

And there is something about those big old muscle cars... my friends father had one of them....oh it was fun! I'd hate to have to feed it right now, but if I could afford it? You betcha.
