Avatar Sizes

The control panel states that the maximum avatar size is 170 by 170 pixels. It has come to my attention that four members of the PC have avatars that are large to the point of page distortion.

Terminator X (240 x 162)
Celephais (240 x 270)
Volstock (240 x 213)
Sylvan Dreams (240 x 180)

All widths are at 240 pixels. Is this some sort of bizarre coincidence, or is the actual maximum avatar size 240 pixels? If the second, could it please be changed back to 170 pixels?

Stop using 640x640 resolution on your compy 386.

you can actually slip through the size constraints, due to a bug somewhere.

Yeah it's a bug I think. If you hosting it, it won't accept a large image. If you upload it, it will accept it and scale it down a bit. At least that's what I've noticed with my experimentation.

Anyone else noticing it working differently?

I think the size constraint should be 99x99.

However, FireFox is awesome and all large avatars just get ad-blocked.

It's possible, but not by me. Someone would need to search through the code to try and fix it. The guys who made the hack won't make the effort because the version of this board is outdated. :(

On a side note, the new company I work for has Dell returned scratch and dent LCD monitors by the palletload.

Should anyone be interested, I'm sure I can scrape together some GS only specials starting Tuesday on various LCDs. Probably around $100 or less.

Then onward to 400 x 400 avatars!

I wouldnt mind keeping to the size they are supposed to be.. but since I switched to windows Xp I cant use my home version of Adobe anymore :(

I see what happened with my avatar. I tried loading one and I got the error message of something like "Your avatar was too big and deleted from your profile". I uploaded another and it took. However, I went back into my profile just now and saw that same message despite the oversized avatar being there. I just now uploaded the resized one that Celephais was nice enough to provide (thank you!). Perhaps it's my screen size or resolution but I thought my avatar was alright as I didn't see any distortion - oops!

I also think the side bar on the left is ridiculous, the little level thing is clever but useless, should be another checkbox like "show avatars" we could remove.
You can choose not to show avatars in your profile.
