This is a good place to post this. Doing something to help out is very easy from on-line contribution to volunteering.

Three women I work with are hosting a hurricane relief happy hour. $5 a head at a local place and it all goes to Red Cross. If you are in DC, come show your support.

Here's the most comprehensive page I've seen to date concerning anything regarding the relocation of Katrina victims.

Do all the proceeds benefit the disaster or just the cover charge? $3 dollar beer and wine isn't that cheap.

National donations
While a variety of government and private agencies are en route to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina, federal officials said people wanting to help should not head to the affected area unless directed by an agency. Instead, Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, urged people to make cash contributions to organizations.

I believe you it was posted. I called. I got a lady for some firm in NY. I just responded with "Uuuuhh...I think I have the wrong number". She said "are you looking for the red cross? Let me give you the correct number. 1 877 206 7500". I said "thank you."

1877loved1s will work, apparently. I was dialing 1 800. The number I gave is a little easier to access and it is not as bogged down as the Loved1s. Loved1s is under extremely heavy traffic right now.

It's really heartening to see the response of people everywhere to this tragedy. It seems that everyone is giving what they can, and doing what they can.

Our organization's convoy left yesterday, carrying supplies and medical personnel. One of our local hospitals is taking in some of those patients evacuated from hospitals in the stricken areas. It's taken far too long, but it is really good to see things starting to happen.

One of our largest beverage distributors (SilverEagle Distributing) just donated 5 million dollars worth of bottled water to be shipped to New Orleans and to the 3 major evacuee areas.

Thats a lot of bottled water.

My boss chartered a bus, parked it in a grocery parking lot over night asking for donations, and drove it down to LA this morning to drop shit off and bring people back.

I am damn proud to work for her.
