After watching National Treasure I was reminded of the fascinating Oak Island Money Pit shit.
This is just a basic site of many many.

Anyone else have interest in it?
I remember seeing a program on tv about this thing. History Channel, I believe. They way they made it out to be was it had a pretty ingenious design, but did people back then have the smarts to do it?

Yeah. Engineering was pretty formalized in some circles at that point. I'm theoretically related to Daniel McGinnis, the fellow from 1795.

The movie made me think about the Free Masons in conjunction with the pit. All kinds of theories but fascinating none the less.

I could see it as Masonic. Family tends to regard the Captain Kidd theory.

What does "theoretically related" mean exactly? I'm think I'm theoretically related to Adam and Eve (or Bobo the circus ape perhaps).

My grandmother was a McGinnis. She had laid out a connection but I always thought it was tenuous. She was obsessed with geneology.

Ah awesome. I can now partially blame you for your ancestor starting this entire debacle.

Yeah. I wonder if they'll ever successfully find anything after that collapse.

always found this fascinating. someone pitch the idea to James Cameron, maybe he'll make a movie about it, and someone will crack the mystery.

Well two assholes own the island who used to be partners and Canadian govt only issued one treasure-trove license to the other partner... blah blah.. they are both 80 years old and pissed off. I don't think anything is going to happen for quite some time sadly.
