I usually don't get swept up in geek-sades (geek crusades). But on rare occasion of having little to do, I decided to watch an episode or two of the acclaimed, but short lived sci fi show Firefly.
Perhaps the reviews and the fansites swayed me, but I found it to be one of the best tv shows I've seen. The plots are decent, but strong character development drives each show. The dialogue is witty and unpretentious, the acting was above average at the least, and the cgi was impressive for tv. I was a skeptic for the first episode, hooked by the second, and a diehard by the third. I now understand why the Firefly enthusiasts out there villified Fox for botching the show. This show had nothing but its excellence going for it. Luckily, word of mouth ignited a loyal blaze of fans across the world.
By the time I finished watching the entire 14 episode run, I was upset that there were no more to come. I then found out that the movie is set to be released on 9/30. The mission for me now is to do my part to spread the word to aid the DVD and film sales. A continual strong showing for both could lead to a sequel or even :gasp: the revival of the tv series.
Anyway, if you're a fan of interesting sci-fi or just good tv, I highly recommend Firefly. Download the episodes if you have to. It won't matter much because you'll probably end up buying the DVD's.
