Does anyone know if all the phones in New Orleans are "busy" basically due to the hurricane or what? I've tried calling my ex who lives down there on both her cell phone and her apartment number and they're both busy. I know the numbers were active as of a month ago. I kinda expected problems with the apartment line but was surprised by the cellphone. Any ideas?

I'm not a techie by any means, but if the cell towers went down I'd doubt the phones would work.

Everyone in the country is trying to call someone in New Orleans. Everyone left in New Orleans who isn't underwater (all 3 of them) is trying to call someone else in the country. I wouldn't be surprised if all you got was a busy signal. Best advice? Text message.

Good idea. I'll try the text message. Thanks!

I'm sure that even if the cell towers aren't down, they're not powered.

when phone lines fall over, you get a busy signal too.

That's what I was wondering. When I text her, it just comes back immediately with a message saying deleted. I'm friendly with the rest of her family, maybe I should call them in MA tonight.

Same thing happened to the cell's in washington and NYC after 9/11.
zero phone service in New Orleans.
Only way for them to get messages out right now is though radio signal.
