A secondary school is to allow pupils to swear at teachers - as long as they don't do so more than five times in a lesson. A running tally of how many times the f-word has been used will be kept on the board. If a class goes over the limit, they will be 'spoken' to at the end of the lesson.

Torn on this one, while I think free speech and the abilities that it entails show be incredibly broadly definied, not only can a school room be considered an inappropriate place to swear, but to actually swear at the teacher?
Just posting because I'm interested in hearing what others think about this.

I can see the genius behind it... when you take away the "forbidden" aspect of it, it's not going to be anywhere near as "cool" to say, but when you allow people to just be openly ignorant, you're degrading the culture of the world and should have your fake yellow nuts ripped off by bruce willis

I know a lot of people would be upset with this way of running things, but if I had a kid and they went to a school like this, I'd find it really amusing.
I wonder if during the class the kids are all raising their hands, trying for the chance to say FUCK first. Hehe.

I hear the f-bomb get dropped a lot in class. I think going to a small school has a lot to do with that, though...the teachers actually get to know you, and we get away with a lot more.

What exactly is the point? To be allowed to openly swear at a teacher without fear of retribution as long as you don't exceed the lesson limit?
Wow how classy and it really teaches respect.

It's ridiculous. My English teacher was probably the coolest with swearing and even he was against it. He didn't have the pissy element that female teachers did, though. Just said, "Watch it."
As for the effectiveness of it: terrible fucking idea. With 25-30 people in a class, you're dealing with it 125-150 times every period. There's no chance that, given 5 opportunities to say fuck, a student isn't going to.

I had thought it meant 5 times total from the class per lesson, not per student.

If that's the case...
It's even more fucking retarded.
I'd beat the shit out of whoever said it making me unable to.

I think you're right. "If a class is over the limit," somehow I read as, "If a student is over the limit."

My son's not allowed to swear as it is.. if his school was considering doing this I would see it as them underminding my rules. I wouldn't like it at all. The no swearing policy needs to start at home and be enforced. Sure my son DOES swear on occasion, but he doesn't do it often. This, to me, is just another way of saying that a lot of todays parents suck.

I think they do that, then the faculty gets a shot at each kid with a yard stick for each time they go over 5.
Everyone in the class, the perp twice!
Fuck yeah!

My parents suck because they don't punish me for exercising my right to freedom of speech? Are you fucking joking?
I think this is clearly a poor reflection on whoever thought this would be a novel idea and on the school allowing the behavior. Crazy stuff.

If they do that then how do the teachers think they are going to get any respect at all when you can just throw not one...but five curse words at them! I would actually like to see how it goes. I'm pretty sure the result will end up with a lot of teachers in counseling.

My son's not allowed to hang out with black people as it is.. if his school was considering doing this I would see it as them underminding my rules. I wouldn't like it at all. The no blacks policy needs to start at home and be enforced. Sure my son DOES hang out with blacks on occasion, but he doesn't do it often. This, to me, is just another way of saying that a lot of todays parents suck. I'm not saying the nutjob school is right in letting kids toss around curses. However, the idea that the school shouldn't let a kid do anything the parent wouldn't allow is fallacious, as parents are not infallible.

He does, he just makes sure to do it at school where you aren't around :spin:
This is what happena when socialists run the education system.
What an idiotic idea.
