I'm not new to the game, by any means, but have never used two handed weapons, so I'm not sure about the comparison between those and edged.

Any information in comparing the two would be helpful, in-depth numbers where possible, and largely, I'd like to know how two handed swingers survive bolts without a shield, heh.

The exact same question I had quite a few years ago, when I started Stunseed version one. I'd done great until 16 or 17, when cold guardians constantly ripped him a new one. I then came to the realization that starting off using two-handers was an incredible bitch, and went to sword and board.

One of these days when I've got a fixskills to fuck around with and burn, I'm going to switch him back for a week or two.

The other side to this argument is if you are selective on what you hunt, bolts vs. two-handed weapon DS isn't a factor for a while.

The easiest way to survive a bolt is to not get hit by them :)

You need to have a more kill or be killed mentality. You are a more powerful attacker than other players, but also more vulnerable. For rogues and rangers, ambushing is key. With my rangers I'm to the point where if I hit the body part I'm aiming for the creature dies 100% of the time. If his aim is bad, they are still stunned. The only worry is EBP.

Warriors need to make use of their manuevers to put things on the ground, in RT, etc. Also, heavier armour can help lesson bolt damage.

Train in dodge. You can generally get a 50% boost to DF going from OHE to THW, without much increase to RT if your stats are sufficiently speedy.
