Okay so at random intervals in the middle of the night I get a pencil and a piece of paper and write out completely arbitrary plans. (Edit: I also use the word arbitrarily when I have no sleep. I then pick up on it minutes later.) This is my future in high school. When I read this thread of sound mind, I would love some input on my plan.
Here is my current sophomore schedule:
1. English 10 Honors
2. Pre-Calculus Honors
3. Honors Biology
4. US History I Honors
5. French III Honors
6. Health Dynamics / Physical Fitness / Digital Imaging
7. Study
Here is my planned junior schedule:
1. English 11 Honors
2. AP Calculus
3. Honors Chemistry
4. US History II Honors
5. French IV HOnors
6. Honors Physics
7. Study
Here is my planned senior schedule (questionably incomplete):
1. English 12 Honors
2. Accounting
3. Introduction to Business Concepts
4. Government / Economics
5. Softball / Study
6. Study
7. Study
I'd rather not have so many studies senior year, but I can't figure out what class I want to take. It's the only year I can add to my courses, because I won't make it without a study. I'm hoping that the dropped programming classes (VisualBasic and C++) will be restored by the time I'm a senior, in which case I will add them both to my schedule that year. If this is not the case, I'd like to have some classes to take their place.
Here is my school's website: http://nmiddlesex.mec.edu/~HSHOME/main.html. The course descriptions can be found at the Departments tab on the sidebar. Pick some classes for me.

Holycow Bob - you're only going into the 10th grade? I read your posts and your grammar and thought process is more effectively structured than 90% of the people I interact in the workplace..
Do you have any long-term plans (career related)?

When people say things like this, I smile. This is something I like to hear.
<<Do you have any long-term plans (career related)?>>
I plan on attending 6 years at Bentley College and McCallum Graduate School of Business to obtain a Master's in Business Association. I'll be sure to serve an internship in the accounting field while in college. I also plan on becoming a Certified Public Accounting during/after college, and that will serve as my profession for a number of years. I'll most likely work as an auditor sometime. The end goal is Chief Financial Officer, and that'll take 25-30 years, so I don't even want to think of everything I'll be doing in the meantime.

you sound exactly like me when I was your age...but I got side track when I start my own business and well I never look back ever since.Good going on thinking ahead thought but remember in today's market they don't just want someone with experience in one field. They want a person that dabble in many field.Just a word of advice

Probabilities and Statistics might be a course to consider, Bob, if you can't take the programming courses.

SAT Prep looks good.
I also like Street Law.
Both seem like they would be useful.
Looks like you have your English courses down. Was thinking about the courses that I think helped me in college overall. You don't seem to have any trouble at all expressing yourself in writing. I didn't see anything that would fit in the realm of "Public Speaking" that's definitely a skill that you will take with you the rest of your life, perhaps you'll find it in college.

<<Probabilities and Statistics might be a course to consider, Bob, if you can't take the programming courses.>>
I've thought about that a few times before. I wonder, though, if I'd get anything out of it -- it's hardly an intensive math class. I'd be taking it after passing AP Calc and Physics, so I wasn't sure that it would be something I need.
<<SAT Prep looks good.>>
I took the SATs in 7th grade. 550 math, 380 verbal. That was prep enough for me.
<<I also like Street Law.>>
I'll consider this.

You're so right.
What is "Study"?
At my high school we got free periods if you had enough credits. Every thursday I only had to go to one class, which was pretty sweet for high school.
study hall, basicly a class you do nothing in.
Bobmuhthol
08-19-2005, 09:07 AM
It's a creditless period to do homework, and it works well in combination with an MP3 player. There are 7 periods, and you get a study for whatever periods that don't have an assigned class. I need to keep at least one per year, though, because something about doing homework at home makes me sad.
Can you leave school during "Study"?
I ask because at my school we had a study hall on Thursdays, but you didn't really have to attend it (you needed an excuse but they were easy enough to come by) so I just got two free periods (four period day) and all I had to do was come to first class on Thursday.

It really all depends on the person. You can not leave school during study, but...If your 18 and everything and dismiss yourself, Or if your parents pick you up it's fine. It's basically counts as any other class.

<<Can you leave school during "Study"?>>
The only thing that's permitted (ie. they don't care) is leaving when you have no other classes. The unfortunate part of this is study teachers take attendance and skipping it isn't worth the trouble. You have to be 18 to permittedly leave. I'll be graduating like 2 weeks before my 18th birthday. :(

An AP science for senior year. If your school has AP english, do that too.

<<An AP science for senior year.>>
There's AP Chemistry and AP Biology. F biology. AP Chemistry might be cool.
"CHEMISTRY - ADVANCED PLACEMENT (5 credits; Level 1) This course follows the standardized Advanced Placement program and is accepted for college credit by many colleges and universities."
ENGLISH 12 - ADVANCED PLACEMENT (5 credits; Level 1)
Prerequisite: An ‘A’ average in junior honors or AP English
If I get an A junior year I'll do AP. I probably won't be getting an A, though.

You should offer to teach a class called PWNING n00bs instead of taking one of those study halls your senior year.

After looking for a job the past few weeks I'd recommend taking as many different types of programming classes as you can manage. I'd have so many more job offers with larger corporations if I knew more C+.
Sounds like you got it made. Keep your junk wrapped up so that no rugrats will interrupt your college and/or career.

If you have an affinity for playing the numbers game, while possessing good logic and communication skills - this is an excellent career path. There are nine exams in total - not that you need to take all nine. Each successive exam under your belt commands better wages.

Chemistry is the intermittent evil woven between biology and physics.
Personally, and this is just me, if there was any AP course you end up getting college credit for that you also took in high-school and would be very, very much worth taking again (If you're thinking that you want to pursue a career oriented towards some of the principles of chemistry) it would so seriously be ... chemistry.
I say this because I made the simply ... retarded error thinking that I was going to be a completely badass smooth-sailor having taken AP Chemistry and that it would be a bull shit course just hearing it again in a lecture hall. This turned out so not to be the case, that I ended up withdrawing my freshman year from basic chemistry's 2nd semester session in the winter (that's after having gotten a friggin' D+ after general chem's first-semester course!) and I still have not taken orgo as an upcoming senior ::groan::
Break your back in general chemistry, Bob, or your life will be ruined, bwah-hah! ... :clown:
oh and also, i even made sure that I received AP credit for it when I first enrolled in my college :banghead:

My school didn't have any PE class.
Our hockey team won state hockey championships like it was their job.
We regularly went deep in the football playoffs, though with not quite the level of success.
I personally never topped 170 pounds.
But yeah. Lard asses.

Don't forget between third and fourth period when you get your head stuffed in a toilet and your lunch money stolen for wearing your GS shirt in public

<<Is your highschool 3 years now like a few other places?>>
No.
<<Ive never heard of U.S. History Honors. That mean you learn the same thing as everyone else and do more work?>>
Yes, and earn a higher GPA in the process.
<<Also i see no athletics's or PE your schools gonna be a buncha lard asses.>>
Softball isn't athletic? The only required classes are a semester of fitness freshman year and a semester of PE/health sophomore year.
<<Don't forget between third and fourth period when you get your head stuffed in a toilet and your lunch money stolen for wearing your GS shirt in public>>
No chance.

Pity you don't have the APs... rest of it sounds pretty good, Bob. I'd go for college classes locally if possible. High schools usually weight those and you can get rid of core requirements early.
Well, thats a damn impressive schedule. Good work. I see Digital Imaging in the first year. Thats very cool. Obviously its not a career choice for you seeing as its not in the next two years. What are you going for career-wise incidentally? Sorry, haven’t read the entire thread if you posted it already.
I think you posted some time ago about the extra curricular stuff. Just want to remind you to try and do that. The corporate world loves that shit and it will get you a leg up.

AP Calculus is good enough for me. There is a chance of AP Chemistry senior year.
Accounting??? Sweet Jesus. Well, if anyone can be an accounting rock-star, it has to be Bob.

The main reason I suggested more APS was any 5s you can nab means you have to waste less time in college.

If you're good enough at math I'd skip the accounting and go for an actuary major.
There aren't many degrees that will get you more money fresh out of school than a B.S. in actuarial science.
After that you're free to do what you want, but I doubt you'll be too worried about not getting a Masters degree right away if you're making 80k at 21 years old.
