I have no clue how disarming traps works

kad has 25 in disarming traps and 23 in perception with a dex bonus 16. how big of a trap will he be able to disarm? and what level would be a maximum to try? is there a really good website that any of ya know about?

yes, I know I'm waaaay undertrained but I'm just now picking it up and getting like 12 ranks per level.

I don't know much, but that would make you about the equivilant of a level 12 rogue, I haven't picked locks in years and years but used to be that meant you wouldn't want to do much higher the lesser orcs until you got a bit more skill.

so the general rule is cut your ranks in half? should I 1x or 2x in perception? keep in mind that I only want to disarm boxes my own train

you'll be okay in 1x perception and 1.5x disarm to get boxes your own train.. with a possible occasional death

so if I wanna narrow down the possible occasional deaths should I up the disarm ranks or the perception ranks?

2x disarm, 2x perception, decent WIS bonus and you should be good. Get some 404 and 403 imbeds for tough boxes. That will allow you to go over your head with little fear.

My rogue at lvl 28 can knock -190 scarabs out of the boxes but can't disarm the scarabs, that's 2x'ing. Not super but far from shabby.
