I'm not sure how many folks here knew the character of Respite the empath. He played a few years ago and was a healer around Voln and the Landing during his early years. He was also quite active on the official boards, and well known for his witty and incisive postings, as well as for being a terrific writer.
His player, Dan, worked as a pastor at a small church in rural Ohio. He was also big into blogging, and his blog, Popping Culture, is a terrific read. In the blog he'd discuss everything from great art to silly pictures of poker playing dogs. He also chronicled his struggle with cancer.
Dan lost that battle tonight, leaving behind his wife Stephanie. He was 35.

Oh, no! I'm so very sorry to hear that. Respite was a great character with whom to interact, and will be missed in this world more than in Elanthia, I'm sure.
Rest in peace, old friend. You were loved by many.

I've just told my mother of Dan's death. She was much closer to him, in game, than I ever was. Perhaps, I shouldn't have said anything, since she's in tears, but she asked what had me so down.
She asked me to send her heartfelt condolences to Dan's family, and to tell them that he will always have a place in her heart, as he will in theirs.
I'm heading out to the Wishing Tree...nevermind, it's the middle of the night. Candles are lit to guide his way.
This is really, really hard...

If your mother would like to, his blog site is: http://www.danielchampion.com/
There is a comments section after each post, and people have been posting their messages to Stephanie there.
I live in the Youngstown area and am planning to attend his wake and/or funeral. If she'd rather her condolances be private, you can email them to me and I'll pass them along to his wife. My email is Tilone@aol.com
To know Dan at all was to love him. He was truly a stellar individual.

I'll give her the site address and yours, hon. Thanks. I know she'll appreciate it. She really adored Dan and Respite.

Mom managed to type in her comment with a little help from me. Thanks again, hon, for the link. I think she feels a bit better for having a chance to "verbalize" her grief and empathy.

I didn't know him on a personal level, but as a character, he was a pleasure to play the game with. It's a loss to everyone in Elanthia when we lose such a great player. I can't imagine what it is like for those who were close to him and knew him out of the game.
