View Full Version : Mattock kill, low roll
>ambush giant head
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a glaes-hafted heavy granite stormhammer at a lesser ice giant!
AS: +265 vs DS: +204 with AvD: +38 + d100 roll: +17 = +116
... and hit for 32 points of damage!
Solid strike caves the ice giant's skull in, resulting in instant death!
The ice giant falls to the ground motionless.
Roundtime: 10 sec.
Against a creature wearing brig. Almost claidhmore-esque.
Anyone else have any real low roll crit kills?
The more I look at this the odder it looks, I think this did 6 raw damage, 25 crit damage for the level 5 crush crit. Is it possible for that to happen on a creature who has brig skin (that's the only AvD that works)?

You hardly did any phantom damage and with the brig's crit divider, that attack has lead me to believe that your mattock is either weighted or they (mattocks) need a nerf-ing!... :wasntme:

I killed an ogre outside of Solhaven on a 110 once with a battle axe to the head. Same armor I think.
110 in GS4? That's pretty amazing.

Gads, are you trained in cman surge? 10 seconds is way too long, imo. Ent starts panicking when she gets that rt while hunting.
Nice hit though. Maybe I can beg you for a hunt when I'm in Mule again.

Nah I was loaded down with boxes and beat to hell, only had about 35 health at the time. Normal ambush time with a mattock is 7 seconds.
And by "loaded down" I mean "had two". THW users get the shaft when it come to encumberance (other than thrown users).

Nice hit!
Best damn crit kill with a crossbow is like a 140-150.

16 * .425 = 6.8 = 7 raw damage, so your crit weighting will kick in. To get to rank 5, you need 35 raw + phantom damage, so that means 28 phantom damage, so you have a good dex bonus and a goodly amount of weighting, or a regular dex bonus and a godly amount of weighting.

Well, it is a pretty special weapon.
Seen it do all sorts of horrible things before.

Ambushing adds crit damage Latrin. The Stormhammer isn't weighted at all.

I think his point was that the ambush alone shouldn't have given 28 damage.
I don't know a damn thing about ambush mechanics, having never needed to ambush, so that's just my interpretation.

Here's a few other ambushes. The longsword in the log is not weighted:
>ambush pr neck
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a twisted silver longsword at an Arachne priestess!
AS: +128 vs DS: +83 with AvD: +41 + d100 roll: +27 = +113
... and hit for 21 points of damage!
Neck broken.
The Arachne priestess twitches several times before dying.
The Arachne priestess exhales a final curse and dies.
The opalescent aura fades from around an Arachne priestess.
The deep blue glow leaves an Arachne priestess.
A white glow rushes away from an Arachne priestess.
The brilliant aura fades away from an Arachne priestess.
An Arachne priestess seems slightly different.
A golden aura fades from an Arachne priestess.
An Arachne priestess seems hesitant.
Roundtime: 6 sec.
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a twisted silver longsword at an Arachne priestess!
AS: +115 vs DS: +71 with AvD: +41 + d100 roll: +26 = +111
... and hit for 35 points of damage!
Gruesome slash opens the Arachne priestess's forehead!
Grey matter spills forth!
The Arachne priestess exhales a final curse and dies.
The opalescent aura fades from around an Arachne priestess.
The deep blue glow leaves an Arachne priestess.
A white glow rushes away from an Arachne priestess.

A subtle light fades from 's eyes.

Aone was pretty amazing.
Speaking of powerful ambushing:
>amb rol head
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a closed fist at a rolton!
AS: +52 vs DS: +7 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +78 = +148
... and hit for 35 points of damage!
Mighty swing separates head from shoulders.
The rolton collapses to the ground, emits a final bleat, and dies.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a closed fist at a kobold!
AS: +157 vs DS: +24 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +23 = +176
... and hit for 46 points of damage!
Brain driven into neck by mammoth downswing!
The kobold crumples to a heap on the ground and dies.
The guiding force leaves you.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>amb kob head
You leap from hiding to attack!
You swing a closed fist at a kobold!
AS: +127 vs DS: +24 with AvD: +20 + d100 roll: +33 = +156
... and hit for 4 points of damage!
Love tap upside the kobold's head!
The guiding force leaves you.
Roundtime: 4 sec.

Looks like perhaps the only difference is the spell Camoflauge?

Well, AS wise yes, but the difference in the end rolls is what allowed me to get one more actual damage and then allow ambushing skill to kick in. Crit weighting/ambushing skill doesn't kick in on level 0 crits, just level 1 and greater. On a rolton or kobold you need to do 5 actual damage to get a level 1 crit. Fist DF is so weak that the difference between those two hits (As far as actual damage dealt, not crit damage) is actually only 1.

Gah, I missed that it was an ambush. Er, sorry for the bump.
I'm pretty sure posting 3 hours after the last post isn't much of a bump. Hell, I'm posting 4 hours after your post but I've always been a rebel.
